...Scene One?

I think we probably do need a third thread.

The Disney thing was cringe, it was Harry saying you seem surprised to the guy. Eh yeah he was surprised, but he's not surprised she does voice overs he's surprised you're asking him to give her a job. It would have been the last thing the bloke expected.

They must have discussed it in advance and agreed for Harry to take the opportunity to ask him.

Talk about milking your connections. I wonder who else they've asked for what else.

daisypond · 12/01/2020 11:14

It’s common practice to buy all versions of the domain that you want to use.
They haven’t got branding/domain rights for Europe. Someone else jumped in there - a German person living in Italy- and bought it as soon as they made their announcement.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 12/01/2020 11:14

The awkward pitch to Bob Iger is horrible. Harry looks like a fish out of water. How demeaning. Then he tells Bob he looks suprised. Of course Bob is surprised, (his wife(?) has a carefully curated business face on) he's probably thinking WTF I didn't expect a work pitch from a member of the RF.

And PH is happy to continue doing this sort of thing?

LondonJax · 12/01/2020 11:14

What I really can't understand about all of this is that the main reason for moving overseas is because of the vitriol, racism, wanting to bring Archie up without all the constant press stuff etc.,

How does moving to another country stop that? They have press in those countries, our papers buy articles from all over the world, people have long distance lens on their cameras (look at the topless on holiday in Italy, I think, Kate photos which went around the world during the first couple of years of their marriage). Moving abroad won't stop these things happening and the Palace 'war machine' (as I call it) can't stop foreign press publishing anything they want. Which is why the Kate photos went into press in some countries but not in British papers. I'm sure someone will correct me on that but the Palace went straight to court and got an injunction in this country for them. How can the Palace protect Meghan if they have no voice in another country - and Meghan seems to be the initial reason for the move, because Harry believes she's being mentally hurt by the comments. I'm not saying the comments are right or aren't hurting but the Palace does seem to try to deal with things if they're given the chance. PA retired from view, presumably after meetings with the Queen and Prince Charles. There was a rumour that Prince William and Prince Charles advised him to do so I believe. The Palace then swung into action and they've been keeping him away from cameras ever since. They can't do that if the couple are thousands of miles away.

I imagine, in answer to your question @daisypond, that Canada was chosen because Meghan has friends from her acting days there and Canada is a commonwealth country so the Queen has some status there - therefore some power.

That Disney guy was put on the spot in such an awkward position. What was he supposed to say being confronted like that? Wrong time, wrong place. Cringe.

savethecat · 12/01/2020 11:15

ah ok thanks, I havent been following and was asked

The US may “love titles” in a general sense but they aren’t recognised in the Constitution.

There be ' having cake and eat it ' again. Hmm

Don't want to be a Senior Royal , wants to break free but still have the titles .

NastyRotter · 12/01/2020 11:16

That Disney job thing is so embarrassing for the RF and Harry, he is so pussywhipped.

LaMarschallin · 12/01/2020 11:17

Or maybe it's because they like to have a never ending stock of negative stories and they sont want to use them all up too soon? Hmm

Maybe.
So how many more stories as embarrassing as Harry pimping his wife's V/O skills are out there, do you think?
Perhaps they should have caught on to the fact that the press might keep stories in reserve and not been so obviously pushing their agenda in public. Hmm?
Or perhaps the press just weren't going to print it. Hmm?

(I'd rather write "Hmm?" as that emoji always makes me imagine people contorting their faces like that and looking a bit stupid instead of wise and knowing. Just a personal preference)

AutumnRose1 · 12/01/2020 11:18

the only Disney videos I can see look like they are put together by bots

is there any truth in any of it?!

Needmorecaffine · 12/01/2020 11:19

The Canadians may get a bit pissed odd when it's their police that will be providing the protection. Can't see Met Police wanting valuable resources being flown back and fore over the Atlantic!

Don't suppose Brand Sussex have thought about that carbon footprint

EmeraldShamrock · 12/01/2020 11:19

The grenville visit was honourable as MM is helping with the cook book, though a convenient time to visit, was it hours before the Instagram announcement.
Pictures released in the middle of the breakup storm, more poor behaviour.

I read a good point on why it took so long for Will & Kate's engagement. He was reluctant to get engaged for so long knowing how the press could push on Kate, waity Katie from a commoner background. She needed to be prepared.

BoneyBackJefferson · 12/01/2020 11:19

daisypond

And they will have done so in the hope of making money off it by selling it to MM and PH to make money.

joystir59 · 12/01/2020 11:19

I think H&M have split up.

icannotremember · 12/01/2020 11:21

Tbh the most striking thing about all this is how keen people who have sod all connection to this are to make out that they have special insight and knowledge. The lipstick alley threads are hilarious. The mumsnet threads are hilarious. My Facebook is hilarious. I am thoroughly enjoying the displays.

I have no real opinion on H&M; I'm a republican anyway and look forward to the day we do away with hereditary monarchy. From what I've read I don't blame them for wanting a different life. But I don't know them and maybe they are the super evil half the tabloids and threads seem to say they are. Seems a bit unlikely tbh.

daisypond · 12/01/2020 11:22

And they will have done so in the hope of making money off it by selling it to MM and PH to make money.
Exactly. So MM and PH weren’t on the ball. It doesn’t speak well for their “planning”.

astrogirl99 · 12/01/2020 11:24

I have really enjoyed reading the diverse viewpoints on here over the last few days.

To add my two cents:

Frankly, I just can’t get worked up over apparent ‘disrespect’ towards a woman who protects her pedophile/dictator-loving son from the force of the law.

Equally, I feel no sympathy for a couple - an ‘actress’ and unemployed sponger, no less -who enjoy a multimillionaire lifestyle while claiming to be humanitarians; who deserve to be ‘heard’ - despite having zero professional knowledge or skills in social justice issues; and who continue to complain about how unfair everything is.

None of them have ever had a real job. They are ALL, including Meghan, from backgrounds of privilege.

All three have sought to profit, publicly and inappropriately, from their association with the monarchy.

Andrew couldn’t give a shit about the people of the UK. Neither do Megs and Harry.

These three are chiefly concerned with lining their own pockets, as are the PR folks tasked with representing these fools.

Monarchies have historically existed, for better or worse, to protect the people and unite them during times of change and unrest.

This family - divisive and in denial - is not doing it’s job.

And all three have been protected by the Queen for far too long. Time to go.

BoneyBackJefferson · 12/01/2020 11:25

All it means is that their planning is rubbish, which doesn't bode well for the rest of the brand.

Mockers2020Vision · 12/01/2020 11:26

Queenie blames Uncle David for sending her dad to an early grave.

She will take no shit from the difficult grandson.

Happysummer2020 · 12/01/2020 11:29

From what I've read I don't blame them for wanting a different life

But they don't want a different life. They want to retail the titles and privileges so basically they want the same life but on their terms.

Will be interesting to see what final deal is negotiated and what compromises they are willing to make.

DuchessofWoke · 12/01/2020 11:30

Last year I watched him interviewed and he said their lives work would be in Africa. And yet here we are, they are moving to Canada and going on the celeb circuit to earn as much as possible. I think the reason Meghan is being blamed is because there is no way Harry would have quit to be a celeb and cash in on his position. He may have quit, but it would never have been to be a celebrity and make as much money as possible

This from the previous thread is what I had been thinking. In the Bradby documentary in the autumn Harry was making strong hints they’d move to Africa (which I thought was never going to happen) to continue their work. What happened??

MrsBrentford · 12/01/2020 11:30

I don’t think it’s a happy marriage any more.

AutumnRose1 · 12/01/2020 11:31

joy

Yes, this hoopla is about cover up I think. Silly really because it would be easy enough to put on a show.

CathyorClaire · 12/01/2020 11:31

Can somebody explain why the emphasis on Canada as opposed to the United States

Bit more remote and therefore slightly easier to hide whatever shady deals/contacts they have in mind?

More willing billionaires donating luxury boltholes? Who knows.

There are already noises from the Canadians over not wanting to fund their security though.
