...Scene One?

I think we probably do need a third thread.

Because it’s clear that they aren’t going to go down that road (blaming William of bullying Harry).

spinyffud · 13/01/2020 12:08

Thread 4 needed!

TheMustressMhor · 13/01/2020 12:08

I think it's irrelevant who writes press releases.

The RF would not approve such press releases if they did not agree substantively with the content.

I live in Sussex and most of us wonder why they were given the title for Sussex

The Queen just pulls that stuff out of her ass. The Cambridges have no ties to Cambridge particularly either.

MrsBrentford · 13/01/2020 12:09

Isn’t there some sort of rotation system with the titles?

astralweaks · 13/01/2020 12:09

Ugh.

karencantobe · 13/01/2020 12:10

@mrsbrentford They would be beyond foolish to release a statement saying William was bullying Harry, whether it was true or not.
You know when you work for a company in the public eye and they release press statements that rarely tell the whole truth? Like there is no sexual harassment here, or any racism is quickly rooted out. Press statements are to shape the public's view of an organisation or issue. They may be totally true, but they are rarely the whole truth.

karencantobe · 13/01/2020 12:11

@TheMustressMhor Yes they would have to agree to the press statement being released. It may be true or not, none of us know. But I understand why someone might agree to an untrue press statement being released.

MrsBrentford · 13/01/2020 12:12

They rarely release statements denying anything.

roisinagusniamh · 13/01/2020 12:12

I never got the adoration of Diana either.
I agree she was like a lamb to the slaughter by being married into the Royal family when she was way too young.
But, after her marriage ended and she became more confident she also became more manipulative.

Diana got more manipulative in the last years of her marriage.
After the 1995 Bashir interview; the Queen told them to divorce
In the last couple of years of her life; she was forging her own life

annielouise · 13/01/2020 12:14

karencantobe - Diana was 19 when she was first in the public eye. She was naturally shy. She would actually blush with embarrassment. It was not unnatural - at least to start with. Meghan was 36 when she was in the public eye, an actress, an independent woman who had given speeches and had life experience - the doe eyed innocent look therefore comes over as unnatural at 36. Can you not see how it isn't comparing like for like?

Likewise, I don't remember Diana gazing up and looking at Charles in the same way as Meghan. Her walk was natural. Did she giggle behind her hands in her mid-30s? I don't think so. She wasn't seen clasping friends in poses for pictures while resting her head on their chest etc.

Obviously, also there wasn't MN in the 1980s or newspapers online so how on earth could have have criticised Diana?

I have criticised Kate for allowing her skirts to fly up to show her knickers. I've seen clips of Diana holding on to her skirts even though they were longer, she had more innate grace than both Kate and Meghan.

Granted I do think when Diana gave her famous interview she did do the big-eyed look - and she was criticised in the press for it!

TheMustressMhor · 13/01/2020 12:14

But I understand why someone might agree to an untrue press statement being released.

I don't. I really don't.

Why would they?

OP posts:
StarbucksSmarterSister · 13/01/2020 12:15

I didn’t really get the craze about Princess Diana. I found her quite manipulative.

Totally. I heard a couple of stories (from "sources" as the press would say) which showed the public persona was nothing like the private one.

scaryteacher · 13/01/2020 12:15

Harry can't do a tell all interview as he must be bound by the Official Secrets Act, having been in the military. Dh still is, and he's been retired from the RN for almost 6 years. I think the parameters of the Act are fairly broad..

TheMustressMhor · 13/01/2020 12:16

The Royal titles are issued/awarded/whatever the right word is, in rotation.

Some (such as Prince of Wales) are reserved for the oldest son of the reigning monarch.

OP posts:
TheMustressMhor · 13/01/2020 12:18

I really can't see PH doing a "tell-all" interview, whether or not he has signed the Official Secrets Act.

I believe that he has too much respect for his grandmother and for the institution of the monarchy to do that.

Meghan, on the other hand...

CleansUpDragonPoo · 13/01/2020 12:18

Everyone's certainly getting their 29p's worth, or whatever the royals cost us individually these days!

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 13/01/2020 12:19

The was actually a petition in Brighton to stop Brighton councils from using their titles. Didn’t get far as the council told the authors of the potion they had far more pressing and Important issues to spend their time on

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 13/01/2020 12:20

Need another thread...

TheMustressMhor · 13/01/2020 12:21

I reckon it is 29p well spent.

Or 58p if I include DH's share.
