...Scene One?

I think we probably do need a third thread.

Actually I agree that divorce would damage what M hopes to achieve. There's a reason people like The Beckhams stay together. People love a good couple brand.

LaurieMarlow · 12/01/2020 16:10

I would think there were more numerous serious and valid reasons supporting a delay.

They weighed up the options and fame to a different conclusion. It was by no means clear cut. Their reasons were valid too.

Came

Alsohuman · 12/01/2020 16:10

*Much as all royal wives get flack from the press, I don’t think that Kate/Camilla had to deal with actual falsehoods, presented as fact, to make them look bad.

By all means post if you can think of examples*

We’ll never know because they maintained a dignified silence.

I read that they both will either go to Toronto or to LA. Meghan can be an actress again, and Harry can be a pizza delivery man, A royal one, as the USA folks would like that,

A pizza delivery man🤣

TheMustressMhor · 12/01/2020 16:11

But the Queen is only the Queen because her parents stayed behind and took over while Uncle David walked away.

She would still be the Queen now, though.

Uncle David (ex-King Edward VIII) had no children.

He died in 1972 and our Queen was next in line at that point.

She would always have been Queen. (Unless the Duke of Windsor had had a child.)

I can’t think of anything (off the top of my head) that wasn’t easily verifiable.

Anyway, I don’t think there’s anything ‘dignified’ about letting people print lies about you. The press are an absolute disgrace in this country. They should maintain some basic standards.

LaMarschallin · 12/01/2020 16:14

With the amount of energy the media puts into telling women that their fertility is in steep decline after 35, I can absolutely understand that the 38 year old would want to get a jog on.

As people are told time and time again on here, you don’t know anything about your fertility until you start trying.

Certainly makes more sense that she gets her info on fertility from Mumsnet rather than the Daily Mail et al as in the previous suggestion Smile

Chocpear · 12/01/2020 16:14

Alsohuman, I suppose I was thinking of the Beckhams who many say are not a happily married couple but stay together for the Beckham brand. Of course this might not be true and they are happy. You are right thinking about it that divorce doesn’t seem to harm Hollywood celebrities careers.

LaurieMarlow · 12/01/2020 16:14

Also the Cambridge’s did take on the press over the topless photos thing (and rightly so), so I don’t think they would have been behind hand in calling them out on lies.

bohemia14 · 12/01/2020 16:15

Foofstruck!!!

That is quite possibly the best word I've ever read on Mumsnet. And completely sums up this situation in one word!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/01/2020 16:16

the Queen is only the Queen because her parents stayed behind and took over while Uncle David walked away

Not sure about this one ... surely, since Edward and Wallis had no children, the Queen would have been the next in line when her uncle died in the 70s?

I'm not sure, either, that it's quite right to say there's nothing we know unless we know H&M personally - not given their habit of spilling their guts all over social media. There's no denying that a certain amount is speculation, but they've hardly kept their mouths shut on much which would perhaps be better unsaid

TheMustressMhor · 12/01/2020 16:16

Actually, now I think about it, maybe the Duke of Gloucester would have been next in line after Edward VIII died, assuming he hadn't abdicated.

He died in 1974 though.

Sorry, TheMustressMhor - I see I cross posted with you about the line of succession

For the record, I don't give a shiny shite where they live. But your argument about attitude to Doria vs RF is ridiculous.

Playing devil’s advocate never seems to get tiresome for some.🙄

SeperatedSwans · 12/01/2020 16:18

I'm sure The Queen would have preferred to take on the responsibility of monarch in the 70's rather than the 50's having had 20 years to have children and live a family life not as the monarch.

I'm no royalist but you do have to admire that woman. She took o the toughest of jobs whilst having 4 children, trying to balance family and work which seems impossible when your family is your work. She has reigned with dignity to her 90's has seen ever dad and fashion come and go like many a prime minister. Her retirement is her death!

I wouldn't want that job and probably would have preferred 20years less in it.

BonnesVacances · 12/01/2020 16:19

Reading this thread is like listening to bunch of bitter unpleasant old ladies gossiping on a bus about things they know fuck all about and filling in all their own blanks. What an embarrassment! Crown Hmm

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 12/01/2020 16:21

Must be awful for you Sad. Do feel free to take yourself off to somewhere you won't have to endure it @BonnesVacances.

LaMarschallin · 12/01/2020 16:21

old ladies

Ooh...
Ageist and sexist.

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 12/01/2020 16:23

IKR?! The worst gossip I know is my ex FIL. Such a spiteful man. Yet you never do hear men referred to collectively as nasty old gossips do you? 🤔

TitchyP · 12/01/2020 16:24

No I don't think the press should lie about people. And it must be awful knowing you have no real come-back.
But the majority of people with half a brain in the UK KNOW the tabloid press is ridiculous and makes up half the stuff it prints. And I'm sure the tabloid journalists know that we know Grin
So surely to not even dignify the lies with a response is the best way of dealing with them.

As an aside I would absolutely love to know what Princess Anne thinks of the whole debacle!

Planeplane · 12/01/2020 16:26

If you are not a woman of colour you don't get to decide what's is racist when directed at a woman of colour end of . The ignorance astounds me.

I'm so sorry but I think this is madness. Racism has a definition...it is to do with being prejudiced towards someone because of their race, it isn't just whatever you want. Some of the comments directed towards MM have absolutely been racist...the majority have not. Do you really believe that POCs behaviour should be above criticism? If we keep moving towards this idea that we can pick and choose the things that offend us and believe that we know the motivations behind other people's opinions then I think that's very worrying.

NumbersStation · 12/01/2020 16:27

@bohemia14

I don’t know them from Adam but sometimes the power of the foof can make men so questionable things.

I can’t help but think the main thing here to blame is that Wink

NumbersStation · 12/01/2020 16:27

Do. Not so.
