Following on from the previous thread, someone asked for another to be created.

Here it is.

But MM is supposed to be a member of the RF?

That's right. And what that means is traipsing round a school in a provincial town on a rainy Tuesday with a perma smile whilst being in a permanent subservient position to those above the Duke and Duchess in the hierarchy. Prince Harry should known this. It isn't breaking news.
It's the definition of the hierarchical institution of the RF Why weren't they briefed about this reality?

derxa · 11/01/2020 21:32

I don't like Meghan. She's destroyed the relationship between William and Harry and for that I'll never forgive her.

As far as I know Camilla's never wanted to sell anything and for that I salute her.

So do I. Good on her.

JulietJanuary · 11/01/2020 21:34

So hypocrisy is a dog whistle now. Glad mumsnet keeps me updated!

The whole flying everywhere while bemoaning co2 emissions will continue to be seen as hypocrisy, it has gained a currency as it is so blatant to the general public.

Harry did that though when he did his barefoot speech on global warming.
Why don't all these people Skype/ teleconference?!

Anyway not particularly relevant to the move to Canada. Except for the airmiles involved I suppose.

Despite any negativity expressed about their methods in leaving the UK, I wish them all good luck tbh. As I suspect do the majority.

But this is what MM did right from the beginning. She put on sensible court shoes and a hat and a big smile and she did all that stuff and though people might have criticised her clothes I don't recall a single person saying she wasn't warm and engaged at these events.

ssd · 11/01/2020 21:35

I'm watching a recorded telly programme about meghan and kate

I didn't realise how gorgeous and stylish meghan is.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/01/2020 21:35

Hypocrisy isn't a dog whistle for racism. What a lazy, sloppy claim

But predictable, wouldn't you say? I rarely comment on the sillier attempts to make anything racist, but it sometimes seems there's no adjective which won't be co-opted to the cause, even if it means totally redefining its meaning

A shame, really, for all those who know from bitter experience what racism really means

Parker231 · 11/01/2020 21:36

@derxa - how do you know she has destroyed their relationship? What did she do?

Alsohuman · 11/01/2020 21:36

She did it for five minutes. It takes longer than that to earn your stripes.

hambledon · 11/01/2020 21:37

JulietJanuary Prince William is at least as outspoken as Prince Harry about global warming. He's just launched Earthshot. I have never heard PW being called a hypocrite.

ssd · 11/01/2020 21:37

Camilla doesn't need to sell anything. She split up Charles and Diana and she got what she wanted.

ssd · 11/01/2020 21:39

Derxa, that's hilarious. I don't think any of them will be looking for your forgiveness Grin

Sussexroyalewithcheese · 11/01/2020 21:40

I'm not disagreeing that what this couple have endured from the press has been awful.

But do not compare it to losing a child. Just don't.

BovaryX · 11/01/2020 21:40

Precisely. I find it quite contemptible.

Planeplane · 11/01/2020 21:41

Quite. Also, as has been said, just doing engagements in London isn't enough...no wonder people are upset as so much of the UK feels marginalised and the fact that she had the glitzy wedding and all of the support and then hasn't bothered to actually visit the majority of the country is pretty insulting tbh.

Sussexroyalewithcheese · 11/01/2020 21:43

My previous post was to @jollybird

MM did the whole hat wearing, smiling in the rain thing for about two years including during most of her pregnancy. In terms of engaging with members of the British public in every kind of environment glamorous or not there was no criticism of her sincerity and engagement. The savage criticism was about things like forgetting to take her dress label off, or not holding her baby properly which triggered vitriolic comments about how she was bringing the RF into disrepute etc. The criticism was totally out of proportion.

JulietJanuary · 11/01/2020 21:44

Wimbledon I haven't seen details of this new venture of P william. If he gets on the news giving a bit speech on climate change I will view it as badly as Harry's big media splash!

Last I saw of the two brothers together I think they were supporting CITES re ivory. Which was quite interesting when it came ethical issues over antique ivory..Anyway I digress.

Harry's big speech recently WAS egregious imo! The optics, oh dear.

Fuzzyhair89 · 11/01/2020 21:46

Really sorry if I'm saying what's been said a hundred times.

I think Harry (without knowing him at all) has become a dad and it's hit him what life has been like for himself. I can't compare myself but when I became a mum I went through some realisations of my own about my family. It took becoming a mum to see it.

I think his life (although privileged in many ways) is sad. He was born into a situation without a choice. He was trained and expected to perform for his family from being a child. His dad cheated on his mum. His mum was sleeping about abit (probably desperate for comfort and love) then she died. I don't see Charles being a very warm loving dad? I also can imagine it's very hard for them to let Camilla into their lives, let alone their childrens. Maybe they do like her, but their mum sure as hell didn't. Yet she's getting to love Diana's grandchildren.

I also think Harry isn't going to be king anyway so... I do kind of understand him wanting to give his child a chance of a different life. He knows what it's like to not be like the other kids at school etc. Having to turn up and perform to the crowds when expected can't be fun. His whole life belongs to the public and he can't escape.

I don't know much about Meghan. She isn't the usual type that enters the royal family. She is an actress, an American and divorced. I can imagine for her it's far too dull. Without knowing anything about her, I imagine she feels lost. I bet she misses her family and friends so much. She also can't have the life she had before. She would of been able to go shopping, dressed in jeans and doing whatever she wanted before. I'm not sure if she thought it was better than it turned out or if this was always her plan.

It does look bad though. She joined the royal family. She made a commitment. Now she wants to be back in America. I'm sure Harry will be ok. But I can imagine it will feel lonely. Nobody will understand out there what it's like for him.

That said I have sisters. We dont see alot of eachother. It does seem like the end of an era for the British. But it doesn't particularly affect my life. They certainly shouldn't be taking another penny now.

Alsohuman · 11/01/2020 21:49

She didn’t. This time two years ago they’d only just got engaged. She did very few engagements in the run up to the wedding and during her pregnancy. Contrast that to the Queen, still out there after 67 years, Anne who’s done 50 odd years and Edward who does the most gigs of the lot of them. At least get your facts right.

hambledon · 11/01/2020 21:54

What! MM has failed because she hasn't put in 50 years of engagements? Er..

madcatladyforever · 11/01/2020 21:58

It very much looks to me as if Harry never got over his mother's death. He has done exactly the same as Princess Diana, stuck two fingers up at the firm and gone off to do his own thing exactly like his mother.
It is a self destructive thing that traumatised children seem inclined to do.
Peaches Geldof for example, tried to make her life better than her mothers but in the end did exactly the same thing - died of a heroin overdose with her young baby in the house just like her mother.
I think the catalyst for this behaviour was his marriage and the birth of his child. It seemed to flip the switch in his head.
Now he wants to go off and be the poeple's prince.

Leflic · 11/01/2020 21:58

Camilla doesn't need to sell anything. She split up Charles and Diana and she got what she wanted.

I think Charles and Camilla is the most romantic thing to happen to the Royal family. The whole meeting and falling in love in their 20’s. Charles being unsure of if he should propose, getting deployed and Camilla getting engaged to bad boy Andrew, And then finally finding each other again.
Pretty shit for Diana but it’s fairly obvious their marriage was something other than true love.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 11/01/2020 22:00

I think the problem has been expecting someone who had a career, interests, something to say, views etc. to just put it all to one side and become something else

But she was asked about this in their engagement interview. No, not a problem she said. Said she didn't see leaving her career as a change or leaving something behind. More of a transition. She was proud of what she had achieved as an actress, but was looking forward to her new role, getting stuck into projects and charities. First thing she and Harry did on their 'blind' date was get out their diaries compare notes and talk about their passion for charity and international development work. Harry had conveyed what was expected.

I'm paraphrasing but the interview is still on Youtube to see.

@Derxa The last time I was in Fortnums on Piccadilly, the very expensive honeycomb on sale was Duchess of Cornwall honey!!
