What’s annoying me is this nonsense that she’s been hounded out of the UK because of racist media I’m no fan at all of many of the tabloids and think they spout sensationalist crap much of the time, but having followed the links to the “racist” articles, they seem to be nothing of the sort.

Yes, they’re written in a breathless, punchy style using colourful (pardon the pun) language, but racist?

I think the term racist has been stretched to breaking point and weaponised by those who want to grind their axe against anyone who doesn’t cow-tow to the woke liberal agenda.

And why this constant emphasis on Canada? Maybe it looks good as a first step, being part of the Commonwealth and all that, but does anyone seriously think Meghan will trade the contacts, the glitz, the weather and the proximity of her mum for the northern rain?

I agree. Canada is more palatable as a transitionary home. And a move to the states as their ultimate goal fits in with them having actual success with brand Sussex Royal, even if they are no longer senior royals, even if they were to lose the Sussex part. The sort of people who actually buy a SussexRoyal hoodie won’t care about H&M’s relationship with the RL.

They will not be abandoned by their prestigious friends, Oprah, etc. because these people would look very fickle. So being at the head table at important events with important people will happen.

I think they are willing to sacrifice any goodwill they have left in the UK, as it will be more than compensated for in admirers in the states. In fact, I am certain the backlash against them in the UK will bring more followers from elsewhere.

Her life has been made a complete misery.

She knew (or should have known) very well that she was doing and what would be expected. If she’s miserable, she’s the author of her own misery.

Then there was the barefoot on the beach speech about the environment after he'd taken a private jet to the exclusive resort location.

They are both very me, me, me.

@jollybird according to many, she should have expected it to be hard, and the press has been kind to her mum, so she’s lucky.

It’s an interesting defense, that Meghan should have known people would be horrible, but she should still love the U.K. all the same.

She was set up to fail.

But she wasn’t given much help to help herself. I feel Harry has failed her, and is now trying to fix it

If the views on here are representative of the rest of the country how right they were to go. She knew she could get away from all this. How hard it must have been to be met with such a barrage of racism and sexism after all the optimism she came with. They will find their place on a global stage away from these outdated prejudiced barbs. Good luck to this wonderful young family.

Where was the “hatred” in the press. Yes, certain writers may have been scathing about their apparent worthiness, self-importance and hypocrisy, but if you’re in the public eye you’ll
get criticised, royal or commoner, black or white.

It’s not racist... It makes the point that she’s not from a privileged background, that’s all. Yes, it’s sensationalist in tone, but exactly the same story would have been written if she were a white girl from anywhere other than the Home Counties.

The whole 'Russian Billionaire' home is a worry too...seems very Prince Andrew in terms of hanging out with those with massive amount of money. Russian Billionaires aren't known for their 'no strings attached' generosity.

Reports are saying that Charles is desperate to keep Harry happy and involved. I wonder if it would be best to cut him loose, with the hope that he comes back. If they are allowed to cash in on being Royal, without the duties it includes, then that really will be damaging for the RF.

There definitely has been racist undertones to the reporting.

Some of the early reporting was incredibly racist when the news first broke that they were dating.

Sure we all know the ins and outs of Kate's family now. In fact it's frequently trotted out here that her Mum was an air hostess (or is that Meghan's Mum?) and her Mum shoved her into private school and reared her to marry William. Like the mother had that much foresight!

On an associated note, is anyone else impressed that Trevor Engelson's stayed silent so far? Given the cash he could no doubt make from just one interview, I think that does him credit

Criticism (which she has faced) isn’t the same as hatred.

But the people they interact with haven’t been horrible at all - it’s all cheers and applause and hugs and adoration and sycophancy everywhere they go. They don’t have to read the Daily Mail nor below the line comments nor watch Piers Morgan on TV. Many people in the public eye choose not to expose themselves to the nastier fringes of the media and social media.
