Interesting interview with Arthur Edwards.

billysboy · 11/01/2020 09:30

the bit I dont get is when they need the press to promote a cause or charity to help publicise it they are happy for the support

when the press / social media disagrees with their viewpoint or how they are going about things they call it unfair

I am not pretending anyone is blameless either PH or UK press but I would have thought it was obvious that you cannot have it both ways

With their statement it is not so much what they have done or intend to do it is how they have gone about it

If you are going to receive public money and support understand that there is a price that goes with that

Cake and eat it !

They can’t do royal tours and accept no sovereign grant money. Those two things are not compatible

There’s not a chance in hell the Queen, Charles and William will make exceptions and pay for H&M to do official tours (which are almost always government requests) from the Cornwall then Lancaster Dutchies

That would risk suggestions of other royal tours coming from those incomes. Then a reduction in sovereign grant because it doesn’t need to cover tours anymore..,

Not a chance

lilybetsy · 11/01/2020 10:22

The more I think about this (and I have spent too much time thinking about this) the more Harry’s behaviour to the Queen seems incomprehensible. He has been raised from birth to respect the Crown, it’s inherent in his upbringing, it’s not just that the Queen is his grandmother, it is that she is the Monarch. In the spell he served (successfully it seems) in the Armed forces, duty and respect the The Queen and Country is first and foremost. What happened to this man to behave on such a disrespectful and petulant way? I’m beginning to think either he is significantly mentally unwell or he is in a highly abusive relationship ....

MummyOfBoyAndGirl · 11/01/2020 10:27

One thing I don't understand. If Harry supposedly has huge wealth from Diana why would he have needed funded 95% by the Duchy & 5% by HMQ? Is that so his actual wealth isn't touched year on year?

As I can understand the views from some people that H&M have made the move in advance of the slimming of the Monarchy or PW taking over the Duchy

BovaryX · 11/01/2020 10:32

Their chief motive seems to be a desire to monetise their royal 'brand.' But that is dependent on retaining their title and connection to the RF. Their connection to the RF is not compatible with moving permanently to America and monetising their titles......

Apologies if this has been answered before, but who paid for their 6 weeks in Canada? Was it the Canadian government and that's why they went to thank them for the their hospitality?

I don't get that bit.

LaurieMarlow · 11/01/2020 10:45

Yes.

That’s how all the royals operate.

The queen very rarely has to dip into Windsor family money either.

Needmorecaffine · 11/01/2020 10:46

but who paid for their 6 weeks in Canada

They stayed at some Russians billionaires pad. There will lie their downfall. People don't give up their homes for free.

GlitchStitch · 11/01/2020 10:52

Apparently they've refused to say.

Nothing to add but wanted to say I’ve enjoyed reading this thread ... I missed the one that was deleted.

Bunnybigears · 11/01/2020 11:01

The Arthur Edward's interview was very interesting and I agree with him it is just a sad situation.

crispysausagerolls · 11/01/2020 11:06

The Arthur Edwards interview says it all really!

ssd · 11/01/2020 11:08

God they really are a couple of nitwits.
Why stay in a billionaires house and refuse to say who paid (as if it was them anyway), why not rent somewhere quiet they could get peace then they aren't taking freebies from billionaires?

Do the royal family ever learn???

Doubletrouble99 · 11/01/2020 11:10

As I said up thread I haven't seen any of the derogatory comments by the press about H & M. The Arthur Edwards interview was very interesting and repeats what I have seen from other senior royal press. They weren't being harassed by the press, we haven't had all these paparazzi photos as used to happen in the past. If you don't like criticism then don't read social media and converse more with the press. Arthur Edwards said that everything changed with the birth of Archie, all this cloak and dagger stuff about the birth! Why do that? It just made things so much worse for them they started all the speculation about the baby and what was going on. They really can't have their cake and eat it. If you are funded by the public and are a Royal you should keep to convention just as Kate and William did with their babies and do an official press photo on the steps of the hospital. There was so much speculation at the time as to the ethnic mix of the baby and whether it was well or not given MM's age. They brought that on themselves, it was all very silly.

ssd · 11/01/2020 11:16

I've concluded these 2 are a pair of self deluded fannies. They don't need to leave the royal family, they fit right in.

The sooner the whole monarchy has been done away with the better

Why should ordinary people like us, working all hours, paying taxes, paying bills, doing the right thing, why should we hold the royals up to be something to admire, something we should be grateful they turn up to wave to us somewhere?

What with Andrew being Andrew, wills alleged affair, Harry and meghan flying private jets 3 times in 1 month, then berating us for going to Spain once a year, Edward being another pompous idiot, old Phillip running someone down, jesus they must be grateful we're still bowing and scrapping to them instead of throwing them out.

Did you miss all this false reporting

mrscampbellblackagain · 11/01/2020 11:26

It is going to be very interesting to see how this all plays out.

In RL conversations I have had everyone wishes them well but everyone I have spoken to seems to think they need to leave properly. So no further Royal engagements/tours or funding.

If the Queen allows them to be semi royals - well how long before they end up having accepted a donation from some very dodgy person unknowingly.

I also read that apparently Tony Blair pays for or contributes to the cost of his security when doing his overseas paid for appearances - that seems sensible. So their security would be paid for in the UK but if they are overseas for the majority of the year then they have to contribute.

I bet the nitty gritty of the finances is what will delay the talks reaching a mutually agreeable outcome.

Alsohuman · 11/01/2020 11:29

If Harry supposedly has huge wealth from Diana why would he have needed funded 95% by the Duchy & 5% by HMQ? Is that so his actual wealth isn't touched year on year?

He gets £2.5 million from the Duchy of Cornwall. His £30 million wouldn’t last long if he had to spend that.

jollybird · 11/01/2020 11:29

The hatred for them is astonishing.

How many threads were there when Andrews scandal came to a head?
How many tabloid headlines were there?
It appears their 'crimes' are much worse than Andrew associating with a paedophile.

mrscampbellblackagain · 11/01/2020 11:31

Jollybird, everyone thinks Prince Andrew is a dick, only so many threads you can have where everyone says, yeah ditto!

Doubletrouble99 · 11/01/2020 11:34

I don't read the red tops Laurie so never read the stories. What I would say on that front though, is that as M & H have taken legal action I would have thought that would be the end of the mater.

Alsohuman · 11/01/2020 11:37

What with Andrew being Andrew, wills alleged affair, Harry and meghan flying private jets 3 times in 1 month, then berating us for going to Spain once a year, Edward being another pompous idiot, old Phillip running someone down, jesus they must be grateful we're still bowing and scrapping to them instead of throwing them out

Edward hasn’t put a foot wrong so I have no idea where that comes from. Philip had a car accident and a passenger sustained a broken wrist - it must happen every day.

This kind of nonsense is so stupid. They’re never going to be thrown out when over 70% of the population are monarchists, probably more now because public sympathy for the Queen is at an all time high.

jollybird · 11/01/2020 11:38

Most members of the Royal family have committed similar crimes- taken private jets, spoken out about climate change.

Where is the criticism and vile comments for other family members ?
Why are Harry and Megan the scapegoats?
The media has whipped up this mad frenzy.

TheGirlFromStoryville · 11/01/2020 11:39

I find it strange that the Queen saw fit to say she was disappointed in Harry but no such reaction to Andrew. Says it all really.
