And he’ll blame everyone else except

  1. Himself
  1. His wife
willstarttomorrow · 10/01/2020 23:39

@julietJanury and @dexra, lets face it this is not exactly a new thing. Every one I know has had a healthy distain for Sting, Bono etc for nearly a decade since they have been using their global influence to tell us how to chage the workd/how superior they are. H&M are pretty late to the party. I have far more respect for those members of the RF who quietly cut ribbons and show support to small local charities such as hospices nearly totally dependant on charity. I suspect they tangibley have acheived far more in the scheme of things.

Haggisfish · 10/01/2020 23:39

Harry, William and Kate seemed so close at one point. It’s sad it has come to this.

SirVixofVixHall · 10/01/2020 23:47

Agree with GinDaddy Leigh and Plane

JulietJanuary · 10/01/2020 23:59

Willstart it ebbs and flows, doesn't it? Eighties was my era: Ben Elton, Live Aid with Geldof and Bono, Sting and the rainforest. , After the second summer of love the Nineties seemed far less worthy, more hedonistic (from the outside!)

Now we are onto the Greta generation.

And bloody Jane Fonda pipes up that she isn't buying any new clothes!

DuchessofWoke · 10/01/2020 23:59

I have a question: if they get what they want, or a version close to it, will they actually return to perform engagements regularly? That’s what they say in their statement, that they’ll continue with their patronages and support the monarchy.

Because after everything this week - and the incredible backlash - I just cannot picture it.

Will we ever see Harry and Meghan on the BP balcony again? The Christmas Day walk to church? In a carriage at Ascot? Remembrance Day service? Will they attend any family gatherings or major public occasions?

It feels as though they’re leaving for good, never to return.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 11/01/2020 00:03

Well we’ll know by Tuesday.
Apparently the Queen wants it all sorted in the same time frame as they «sorted» the Prince Andrew situation; 6 days.

Harry has an engagement on Thursday and he’ll probably be on a plane that night.

DuchessofWoke · 11/01/2020 00:07

The Queen is currently in Norfolk, the Prince of Wales is in Scotland, the Duke of Cambridge is in London and the Duke of Sussex is in Windsor.

It strikes me these four individuals should be in a room together rather than thrashing it out from all corners of the country.

Doubletrouble99 · 11/01/2020 00:24

Apparently they had a conference call Duchess!!

I was really pleased that Harry had chosen to married a black woman. I was very pleased to see her in the Royal Family. My only reservation was that she was American and might not have much idea about exactly what it means to be a member of the Royal Family.
I haven't seen any of the derogatory comments about her race but I have got the impression that it has been presumed that any criticism of MM is because of her race and really my criticism has nothing at all to do with it.
The fact that M & H left Archie back in Canada is just appalling and that MM has skipped out of the country back to him as quick as she could is very very poor. It all shows a great lack of judgement in my opinion.

YourWinter · 11/01/2020 00:35

I think this too, that MM will ditch her immature husband when the celebrity status fuelled by American/worldwide interest has elevated 'her' brand to Kardashian levels. In 12 years she will be 50, Archie will be almost a teenager (modelling, perhaps? acting?) and I wonder, somehow, if Prince Harry will make it to 50 at all.

YourWinter · 11/01/2020 00:36

Sorry, that was in response to lilybetsy

willstarttomorrow · 11/01/2020 00:37

@julietJanuary. I am nearing 50. Band Aid seemed pretty genuine and raw but spawned several monsters (band aid 2, 3 and 4 for example). Maybe it is too many years working in child protection and having friends with similar leanings, but we are all pretty jaded by this celebrity 'woke' shite. Most days I feel I make little difference but if I had to I could name children and their families over the years who managed to get to a better place going forward despite all the generations of abuse, poverty and bloody government legislation. I still see many from time to time now and am so proud of what they have achieved. Sting and Bono did not provide a private jet or address us on their behalf. For some reason generations of poverty and neglected children growing up in northern UK cities are not news worthy.

crispysausagerolls · 11/01/2020 01:13

Guys...do you really think these people need to sign forms and apply for passports themselves 😂😂😂 or sort out immigration etc??

They don’t.

EachDubh · 11/01/2020 02:10

Their website is clunky, the wording seems off and airy fairy. Good luck to them, this is their chosen path but, personally, I feel titles and benefits have to be removed. Security can be provided in uk but not abroad due to costs. They are leaving the uk, i doubt they will be back much, if at all, make a clean break no part time rubbish.

UndomesticHousewife · 11/01/2020 02:17

What I don't understand is if the Queen was 'slimming' down the monarchy, which would essentially have meant they could step down a bit anyway, they had to go and make this big song and dance about resigning etc. They were being made redundant anyway, weren't they? Just don't get it.

Charles wants to slim the RF down, so H&M would become minor riyals anyway..however where's the glamour and celebrity in being shunted out of the spotlight?

These new rich famous 'friends' if theirs (hers) are their friends because they are senior Royals and of their standing within the RF.

Can't see Oprah and the Obamas falling over themselves to mingle with H&M after they've been demoted.

Even if it's what they wanted, there's much more money to be made from jumping ship before they were pushed.

Sofacat · 11/01/2020 02:28

Arthur Edwards the royal photographer, has hit the nail on the head .

MaxPaddyandHarry · 11/01/2020 05:22

He was on Sky News talking about how much the press used to enjoy going on tours with Prince Harry because he was such a pleasure to be with. And then he said sadly, 'I think he's lost his way.'

eaglejulesk · 11/01/2020 05:36

@Leighhalfpennysthigh - you speak a lot of sense. Well done.

Womenwotlunch · 11/01/2020 05:48

I don’t care what anyone says. It’s not going to be the same without them.
I think that Kate and William will have many more engagements to do and it will be difficult for them.
The reality is the constant press bullying has had an adverse effect on them. I think that they made the best decision for them.
For those who believe that racism is not at play read Afua Hirsch’s piece for the NY Times.
Also look up the word mysongnnoir

Mummyoflittledragon · 11/01/2020 06:07

@iwantomountchrispratt
Can you tell me where you grabbed those images from. Am looking to pass them on to a poorly friend to cheer him up and want a clear pic. Thx

EdithWeston · 11/01/2020 06:59

Will we ever see Harry and Meghan on the BP balcony again?

Possibly - the minor Royals are quite often there. It depends on the occasion, but if they were invited and did not attend, we'd know, because it's the sort of thing that wouid be questioned, and that question would be answered.

The Christmas Day walk to church?

Yes, minor Royals in the direct line are often there, and alternating Christmases with each side of the famiy is pretty normal. I think they'll invert the 'two there, one away' that they've done to date

In a carriage at Ascot?

Less likely

Remembrance Day service?

Yes, given Prince Harry's military background and involvement in veterans' charities

Will they attend any family gatherings or major public occasions?

Probably.

MissEliza · 11/01/2020 07:14

@Doubletrouble99 leaving your baby on another continent with the nanny is the only thing MM has learned from the RF.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 11/01/2020 07:54

That Arthur Edwards interview was great; fair and really balanced.
Likewise; given it’s the DM this interview about Charles concerns for his son. are very genuine.

Arthur Edwards; who has followed the RF in close proximity for 40 years says he reckons that within 12 months; at least Harry will be hankering to come home. Maybe Meghan will spend more time in the US / Canada and Harry will fly over more often for big events.

My personal opinion p; is that they will miss the Royal Tours. That is something unique to being a member of the RF. They were both very good at it.
There’s been talk of them not liking the «dreary bits» of opening a shopping centre in Milton Keynes; but really; it’s all about the people they meet.

Currently; they are staying in the house of an unarmed Russian oligarch who they won’t name. Thin end of the wedge p; in mixing with potentially dodgy people who will want something in return.

Thé RF’s private income may not be at Billionaire levels, but a coup,e of million a year; plus free houses etc is more than generous and allowsthem to be independent and neutral.

AraGrand · 11/01/2020 08:11

Loved that interview with the royal photographer @Sofacat

MissEliza · 11/01/2020 08:45

The newspapers are talking of them continuing to do royal tours but how can they represent a country they don't want to live in?
