The only Black/mixed race member of the royal family has been bullied and insulted to the point that she's made the decision to step back.

What Snork said

SnorkMaiden81 · 09/01/2020 06:45

Let's face it, she has form for abandoning family when they no longer serve a useful purpose to her.

GiveHerHellFromUs · 09/01/2020 06:46

@SnorkMaiden81 or for standing up for herself and cutting toxic people out of her life?

poppycity · 09/01/2020 06:46

Race absolutely is the culprit. I'm horrified by the things I've overheard people say about Meghan.

Bluerussian · 09/01/2020 06:50

I'm sorry they are going but I can't say I've thought anything at all about Meghan's ethnic origins. A few do but not openly; horrible people anyway, the vast majority wouldn't think like that. I think she's smashing, so is Harry. The media has a lot to answer for.

They'll have a better life, be able to do more, in somewhere like Canada but they'll still be coming back here regularly; not only is there a role for them here, they have family who will want to see them and particularly Archie.

All I can say is, "Well done Daily Mail - NOT! I hope you're satisfied", (not that the Mail is one person but you get my drift).

MelroseHigginbottom · 09/01/2020 06:51

She's got what she married him for. She wants the money, the luxury, to make a proper name for herself (on the RF's back), but she doesn't want any of the responsibility. If anyone's won, she has.

Worst thing Harry did was marrying her :(

malylis · 09/01/2020 06:55

See there is your racism again, why would a multi millionaire who has already been on a world syndicated series and movies need money or to make a name for herself?

Oooh she should know her place shouldn't she?

missyoumuch · 09/01/2020 07:01

Worst thing Harry did was marrying her

Nope. Worst thing Harry did was dress up like a Nazi.

MelroseHigginbottom · 09/01/2020 07:03

My racism again? That was my first comment...

But to address the 'racism' - she could be white as the moon and ginger, I would say the exact same thing.

MelroseHigginbottom · 09/01/2020 07:07

The ironic thing is, the people who are being called racist are actually judging her on her actions, her character and the effect she's had on the RF.

The people accusing those of racism are quite clearly unable to see past her skin colour...

2beautifulbabs · 09/01/2020 07:12

Nothing to do with race I for one hate the royal family can't stand any of them and would be happy when the Queen passes for there to be no more royals.

It just doesn't seem to fit in anymore there is so much poverty in this country and you have have these air heads swanning around like you should owe them gratitude for having the privilege of their company

BoneyBackJefferson · 09/01/2020 07:14

Its fairly simple.

People are pissed off because they are choosing the parts that they like and ditching the rest whilst taking money from the public purse.

Whilst becoming "financially independent".

How much more money do two multi millionaires need to be independent?

But that is apparently racist.

missyoumuch · 09/01/2020 07:16

@MelrsoeHigginbottom you know nothing of her character except what you've read in the tabloids. Let's talk about the rest of the family shall we?

Andrew for years palled around with a criminal and yet it was only a bad TV interview that got him removed from public duties.

Charles is married to his former mistress who he cheated on Harry's mother with for years and years and years and he's going to be king.

William - well there are rumors about him but I'm not meant to speak of them.

Meghan is confident and wants to do things her way, this is such a horrible "character" trait that it's broken apart the royal family? Give me a break!

WineOrGinOrBoth · 09/01/2020 07:22

Harry should have explained to Meghan what being royal actually meant.

It means turning up & being engaged. She did this.

It means the press will tear you to shreds before they love you. See Diana, Camilla, Kate, Fergie (never loved), Sophie.

Doing lots of engagements that are boring. I don’t know what she thought of them.

It means never ever complaining about your lot in life. She complained.

It means never putting a foot wrong. Being forever grateful for the position you have been put in.

I don’t think this is anything to do with race. She just didn’t bide her time like the other married ins.

Teateaandmoretea · 09/01/2020 08:07

When they married I said that I felt sorry for her - she had no idea what she was getting into and that kind of sums it up. It's the difference between her and Kate - KM had a lot more idea even though I'm sure in some ways she's found it hard.

Basically people will get at you for anything. Some people are racist, so some of the abuse will be because of that, others will pick at everything you do. Others make a big deal when you make mistakes (and she has, lets be honest the global warming stuff was 🙄 imo).

So racism is a part of it and it's ridiculous to suggest otherwise BUT if she'd been white she would also have been criticised as they all are.

Personally I think good for them. And that's not because I'm a fan, but because I've seen the loaded state of media and internet against them with incredibly vicious attacks (and yes, a lot of it racial), and the vicious world my kids are inheriting that cheers on unkindness, division, hate and abuse, and will pretty much swing my weight in behind anyone who challenges the status quo.

👏🏽

hambledon · 09/01/2020 08:17

I have noticed many people claiming that Meghan and Harry 'preach' or 'lecture'. I think that's bullshit. I think people say that when somebody they dislike expresses an opinion.

I would like to challenge readers of this thread to find an actual, real quote directly from Meghan or Harry in which they lecture or preach. If they can share it here I'll back down and admit I'm wrong.

Thegrinch2019 · 09/01/2020 08:35

It’s not racism, she is someone who drops friends and family when they are of no use to her. We as taxpayers paid for a house for them which they aren’t going to be using much, bang on about the environment but will be based in North America and the U.K. how does this work? You can dislike people without being racist! I am also mixed race and find many people annoying

Thegrinch2019 · 09/01/2020 08:37

She went to some of the most deprived areas of the world and made the interview about her! It seems they didn’t even speak this decision through with their family. How upsetting for the queen

lljkk · 09/01/2020 08:42

I wish H & M well.
I hope the haters & tabloids are satisfied with selves. They managed to harrass the most popular member of RF out of the country. Quite an achievement, that.

Marriedtoapenguin · 09/01/2020 08:46

Amazing how the racism etc only became an issue after the fairytale wedding.

noodlenosefraggle · 09/01/2020 08:54

the second child in the RF has been completely superfluous since the abdication and lowering levels of child mortality and wars involving the monarch. All those ''Queen and her heirs' photos make it glaringly obvious. Princess Margaret attempted suicide after a life of being sidelined and shafted by her own family , the less said about Prince Andrew and his over inflated sense of his own importance the better. This is small beans compared to that. Better they jump ship now than a slow descent into middle aged resentment and ridicule. Princess Anne knew what she was doing. Harry should have done the same when he married.

MashedSpud · 09/01/2020 08:55

I think it’s hard to be part of the monarchy. I suspect because of her previous career she wasn’t expecting the scrutiny to be so severe.

I think she finds protocol difficult and stifling/confusing and wouldn’t want her son subjected to the same rules. Harry isn’t going to be king and isn’t required to attend state events anymore.

Harry knows what his mother went through and she was somewhat groomed to be part of that life, Meghan has been dropped into the middle of it and although I think there’s parts of that life she does enjoy, the bad outweigh the good.

The trip to Canada, the seclusion and freedom probably paid a big part in their decision.

KenDodd · 09/01/2020 09:02

To think Racists have won this round.

I don't think it's just this round tbh. Racists are in the driving seat of this country at the moment.

Lailaha · 09/01/2020 10:40

Frankly, Harry is a thug, so it's no loss to the UK.(And yes, unlike those fawning on this thread, I have spent extended periods around him, over the course of several years.)

And as for Safire's ridiculous assertion that there's no other reason than racism to dislike someone who isn't white? Words really do fail me. You see some moronic chunterings on MN every day, but this is well up there for champion. I neither like nor dislike the woman, as I don't know her (the Prince was out of my orbit by the time they met). But this thread has numerous reasons, nothing to do with race, that people don't, and that's their perogative.

I can only assume people saying that criticism of the Duchess comes from being too young to remember the hammering of Sarah Fergus on, the Countess of Wessex and Catherine Middleton before and around the time of their marriages. Princess Diana was slightly different, in that she was revered until she started courting the press as her marriage was breaking down - but they also turned on her before belatedly rehabilitating her after her death.

It's what happens when you are in the public eye in this country, and nothing is more public than the Royal Family, for various reasons. Any tiny slip or deviation in anything and you are plastered on the front of the papers.

Her main error, I think, was also his: that interview in South Africa. You aren't going to get a lot of sympathy for your whinges as a member of Britain's royal family, especially when the things you are moaning about is part of the job - and moaning about your lot in public isn't not having "a stiff upper lip" as she said, but about not washing your dirty linen in public, not criticising anyone or anything, publicly.
