The only Black/mixed race member of the royal family has been bullied and insulted to the point that she's made the decision to step back.

@pallisers "do you generally run your personal decisions by your grandmother?" The only reason anyone is even aware of Harry's existence is because of who his grandmother is, and all the faffing around/momentous deeds of derring do that go with her role. If granny was Betty W. from down at the bingo, would anyone care where Harry buggered off to?

Well that is fair enough. Similarly the only reason Harry aged 12 had to go out and pretend to give a shit about flowers placed outside the palaces for his mother was because of who his grandmother was. Instead of doing what every other 12 year old child would do if his mother died.

Similarly the only reason he had to walk behind her coffin in some inexplicable offering of grief to the british public on television was because of who his grandmother was. Instead of doing what every other 12 year old child would do if his mother died.

Does Betty W have her grandchildren endure that? But you probably think it is just the price they pay for the money and status, don't you?

I don't know if he is right or wrong in wanting out for him and his child from this destructive dynamic of royal family/publicity. But I do know the british public are absolutely weird about the royal family.

SummerPlace · 09/01/2020 03:56

@palliser "But you probably think it is just the price they pay for the money and status, don't you?"

Actually I don't.
I couldn't really give a tinker's cuss what the Sussexes ultimately end up doing or where they do it - just so long as it's nowhere near me. I am merely responding to your statement, and the way in which I viewed your statement.

Yes, the side of Harry and his mother's funeral cortège was heartbreaking. Is it going to be dredged up to excuse everything in his life for decades to come?

However, look at the other side and consider the opportunities that this something of a nonentity has been given because of who his Nan is.

KC225 · 09/01/2020 03:56

I don't think it's racism. I loved the wedding, thought it was a breath of fresh air. But all their behaviour since has been so 'cringe'.

If you don't want publicity then don't marry into the royal family - the refusal to name the Archie's godparents, attracted more attention than had they. No one remembers who are god parents to Williams kids. The coy glimpse of Archive weeks after his arrival garnered more negative attention than had they released an proper photo early. The 'we don't want publicity' announcement then opening an instagram account weeks later and hoovering millions of clicks. All the more than two children are bad for the environment, when his brother has three.

The lectures about the environment and flying when he takes ex amount of flights in so many days. When questioned about it - 'I need to protect my family ' Well don't we all. Then after the criticism, calling him a hypocrite - they fly to Spain for her birthday before crashing at Elton John's pad in the South of France. Could they not have celebrated her birthday in the UK? Her flying to watch her friend in a tennis match in the US. Watch it TV. Ring her afterwards.

They seemed to claw back a bit of respect on the African tour - despite shipping their own fleet of landrovers to another continent. But for me they blew it - 'it's not living, it's existing' and not enough people are asking how I am. They had visited people that had suffered the awful hardship. Harry had met the young girl who lost a leg, the girl his Mother had hugged. She was 24 with small kids and a husband in the army, she lives in a shack, also bringing up her younger sister. Her leg aches because she hasn't been able to have a proper limb fitted - so she uses crutches instead. But go on Harry and Meghan - complain about your existing.

I think they are deluded and churlish. They want attention on their terms, pout when it's negative. It's very tiresome.

SummerPlace · 09/01/2020 03:57

"Sight" not side.

SaphfireRose · 09/01/2020 04:27

@Newmetoday This is just your sexism, always assuming the woman is the 'controlling' one. There is absolutely zero evidence she is controlling him. You've convinced yourself that is the reason you don't like her, you made the controlling thing up and convinced yourself to believe it, to hide the real truth you don't like her.

SaphfireRose · 09/01/2020 04:29

@MrsBrentford Where do you get this 'expectation from the Sussexes' from? I don't see ANY expectation at all from then that she was to be treated like that. On the contrary! I am always amazed what people make in their heads and convince themselves their imagination is the truth, in order to hide the real reason from themselves even.

SaphfireRose · 09/01/2020 04:31

@Plumbus I don't understand this. They are not 'preaching' any more than Charles is and has been for years.

So that argument doesn't hold water.

SaphfireRose · 09/01/2020 04:36

@LochJessMonster

I think - she’s a typical American actress

I come across this thinking a lot. People cannot see someone as anything else other than 'that actress'. It is as though actresses must never be forgiven for being an actress, must always be judged as an actress, like the worst thing a person can do, is being an actress and we should never let them forget they are an actress first, foremost, and only. And not as a person in her own right.

and is now running away because people don’t love her like she thinks they should.

She doesn't think people should love her at all! That is YOUR invented narrative, your projection, in order so you can convince yourself that you are not racist. It doesn't hold water.

SaphfireRose · 09/01/2020 04:38

@MrsBrentford you really should expect this

NO, you should NOT have to expect it, at all! And it is people with your attitude that encourages the behaviour and judgement Diana got.

In fact, you should NOT have to expect this, at all.

SaphfireRose · 09/01/2020 04:46

Don’t preach, don’t be political, just smile and let people be in awe of your Royalness.

I think most people these days expect more from their Royals than that, @MrsBrentford

SaphfireRose · 09/01/2020 04:48

It's perfectly possible to dislike someone and that have nothing to do with their race, their religion or their nationality.

Not when there is no other reason to dislike someone, @Lailaha

Mintjulia · 09/01/2020 04:55

So a married couple have decided to make a life change in order to protect their relationship and suddenly it’s about race or she’s controlling him. Ffs!
He has good reason to dislike the press, she finds royal life difficult so they are making some changes now before it all goes horribly wrong.
Surely that’s better & more responsible then ending up like Andrew & Fergie.

SaphfireRose · 09/01/2020 04:57

@joyfullittlehippo

Standing up and cheering and clapping your post. You completely nailed the inconvenient facts.

SaphfireRose · 09/01/2020 05:01

@crestedrobin 'destroying the Monarchy'? Hmm How? Because they don't act exactly as you expect them to? Your attitude is very spiteful and sad, and unfortunately I don't think you will wake up this year at all.

crestedrobin · 09/01/2020 05:02

Well said KC225. I agree.

SaphfireRose · 09/01/2020 05:06

@scousadelic I suspect Meghan came into this expecting fawning adoration

See that is the problem. You have INVENTED your own narrative. That Meghan wanted fawning adoration. She has never given any such notion, not even hint, that that is what she expected. You (and others on here) have spitefully invented a narrative, and attempt to prosecute your stance on that narrative. A narrative that in reality, doesn't exist. Except in your imagination/wishes.

@heath48 Good riddance to them, cannot stand the sight of either of them.

What a thoroughly unpleasant, nasty and spiteful outlook! You make Harry and Meghan look better and better.

SaphfireRose · 09/01/2020 05:11

@Rumboogie It is pretty clear she expected fame, fortune and privilege from this marriage

No, it is not clear at all! The only thing that is clear, is that is a lie to cover the fact that this is about racism.

I’d love to see the Venn diagram involving

  • thick people
  • racists
  • anti-feminists
  • Royalists
  • white English people
  • Tory voters
  • MM haters
ChestnutSmoothie · 09/01/2020 06:06

Standing up and cheering and clapping your post. You completely nailed the inconvenient facts

Except that poster didn’t nail a fucking thing....just loads of unsubstantiated claims. Exactly what you pretend to hate, Safirerose

Perhaps she would like to start providing some evidence to support her claims? Eh, @Joyfullittlehippo? You can begin with a link to ONE MN post which demonstrates racial hatred directed at Markle. You could also give us a link to the “Meghan bashing sites” so filled with ILLEGAL racial hatred and all the Twitter haterz using the N word. The police must be terribly busy arresting people for all the ILLEGAL racial hatred poor, dear Meghan has been subjected to.

It’s time for people wrongly accusing others of racism to be properly called out for it. Show some fucking evidence or shut up.

ChestnutSmoothie · 09/01/2020 06:09

As a BME woman I have been surprised to hear conversations that white women have about MM in my absence versus how they speak of her in my presence - they are far more negative when they don't know I am listening. That tells me all I need to know really

Probably worried that you’ll call them racists. And they were right to be.

SnorkMaiden81 · 09/01/2020 06:11

No actually, I think manipulative, controlling narcissists come in every colour and creed and Harry's found a belter in her.
I worry for him.

missyoumuch · 09/01/2020 06:12

Sometimes people are worried they'll be called racists because they're doing or saying something racist. It's not all in the imagination of ethnic minorities you know.
