The only Black/mixed race member of the royal family has been bullied and insulted to the point that she's made the decision to step back.

Perhaps I am naive however I don’t think that the criticism of Meghan has been racist . I am old enough to remember the criticism of Diana ( “clotheshorse , hysterical etc) Sarah Ferguson ( “ Duchess of Pork”) etc etc. Even Catherine was called Waity Katie . My own view is that Meghan ( and Harry ) feel they deserve total admiration/ support and are miffed that it hasn’t been 100% forthcoming especially regarding criticism of them using private planes while lecturing the rest of us about climate change .
Agree absolutely with this. I suspect Meghan came into this expecting fawning adoration and think removing themselves is now the best option.
I do think the British taxpayer should not pay even one penny though either to them or in protection costs once this is done

malylis · 09/01/2020 00:01

@Walkingdeadfangirl

Harry served on the frontline in Afghanistan under a media blackout before his presence was reported in foreign newspapers.

Megan was in an internationally syndicated show (well before netflix etc was as popular as now). She's also been in lots of movies and TV shows, hardly a flash in the pan (though not an A list star).

You don't know much do you?

heath48 · 09/01/2020 00:16

Harry did NOT serve on the frontline in Afghanistan!! He was kept well away from the action,I am ex Army,he was surrounded by highly trained specially trained personnel (I know one of them personally).

He was wheeled out for a few photo opportunities.

Meghan Markle was a second rate actress and yacht girl. She could only have dreamt of being as famous as she is now.

Good riddance to them, cannot stand the sight of either of them.

jesus the misogyny on this thread is disgusting. Yacht girl???? WTF

I cannot understand the british. Why on earth do you have this royal family when you seem to hate each one of them individually and personally?

pallisers · 09/01/2020 00:25

you'd have to be brain dead to go into that cesspit of the British Royal Family and British media and British public and expect fawning adoration.

There is a reason none of harry's previous girlfriends would marry him. .

BubblesBuddy · 09/01/2020 00:25

We didn’t choose them did we? They are foisted upon us? They cost money. We annoy get rid of them. We all admire the Queen. (Nearly all!) The others need to see their role as important in supporting her - not just doing their own thing.

We would never agree on a President either. Lots of people would want Farage! Heaven help us. That’s why we have the Queen but it doesn’t mean her grandchild has to be approved of when he flounces off without finishing negotiations with her. Who likes rude people?

pallisers · 09/01/2020 00:28

Bubbles, do you generally run your personal decisions by your grandmother? does your husband? How do you feel about that?

BubblesBuddy · 09/01/2020 00:39

Well no but I don’t have one and if I did, she’s not the Queen. They were beginning to discuss this. It is courtesy to run something past a family member in detail if a decision impinges on them. This is, effectively, a business. It would be unthinkable to slope off from a family business without discussion and extremely rude towards the Queen - she deserves better than this.

BubblesBuddy · 09/01/2020 00:42

It’s not a personal decision they can take in isolation either. There is work to be done and a timetable of visits and duties. It’s not acceptable to just announce their stepping back when they know the Queen is nearly 94. Let her do all the hard graft then? Unbelievable!

ohprettybaby · 09/01/2020 00:44

I think people are just sick and tired of their preachy crap. Colour/race doesn't come into it.

This.

malylis · 09/01/2020 00:50

All the stuff about her being grabby and after the money is based on racism though and was going on well before this announcement.

DustyMaiden · 09/01/2020 00:53

Bring back suits

DeeCeeCherry · 09/01/2020 00:55

Good, they can have some peace now.

Racists are sly and cowardly, they'll give 100 'I'm not racist' reasons to deny that racism even exists.

kombuchachacha · 09/01/2020 01:00

Bring back suits

Think I got bored in the middle of season 3 years ago. Should I start watching it again? Does it get better?

pallisers · 09/01/2020 01:18

It is courtesy to run something past a family member in detail if a decision impinges on them.

So if you wanted to move to France, for example, you'd run it by your siblings and your parents before you made your decision. That is admirable but very unusual.

Rumboogie · 09/01/2020 01:24

I think - she’s a typical American actress who think the world should do as she says and is now running away because people don’t love her like she thinks they should.

This

Racism has absolutely nothing to do with it. Invoking racism is simply lazy and deflects from the real reasons she engenders dislike.

She is an entitled luvvie and appears a domineering person who seems, from the outside, to have changed Harry from the popular person he was before his marriage to the man of tiresome wokeness and sense of prerogative he is today.

It is pretty clear she expected fame, fortune and privilege from this marriage rather than a life of duty.

This is why she is disliked. No-one could care a jot what race she is.

They have accepted the large sum from taxpayers for the renovation of their house and we will continue to pay millions annually for their close protection and other expenses even if they perform no public duties.

FromEden · 09/01/2020 01:33

So if you wanted to move to France, for example, you'd run it by your siblings and your parents before you made your decision. That is admirable but very unusual

I dont about your family but it would be unusual to move countries and leave your family behind without even mentioning it until you'd already finalized your plans. But if you all worked in a family run business which involved splitting duties etc would you really not say anything?

Monkeynuts18 · 09/01/2020 02:21

So if you wanted to move to France, for example, you'd run it by your siblings and your parents before you made your decision. That is admirable but very unusual

If we were all involved and dependent on a highly lucrative family business, I’d definitely let them know before I announced it directly to all the business’ customers. I don’t think that would be ‘very unusual’!

GrumpyHoonMain · 09/01/2020 02:27

Becoming minor royals is something they would have needed to do anyway when Charles became King. I’m guessing the Establishment is unhappy because the media created hatred towards Meghan and Harry was protecting Andrew to an extent - now there’s no buffer.

Josette77 · 09/01/2020 02:47

I think based on the website this is just them wanting to monetize. I'm not sure why anyone thinks this is about racism.

FromEden · 09/01/2020 02:53

Becoming minor royals is something they would have needed to do anyway when Charles became King.

No it wasnt, they were supposed to a part of the slimmed down royal family and help william and kate with their duties

SummerPlace · 09/01/2020 02:54

@pallisers "do you generally run your personal decisions by your grandmother?" The only reason anyone is even aware of Harry's existence is because of who his grandmother is, and all the faffing around/momentous deeds of derring do that go with her role. If granny was Betty W. from down at the bingo, would anyone care where Harry buggered off to?

If one was cynical, one could say that is the same reason that MM married him - but since I'm not cynical, I wouldn't say that. (In fact “You might very well think that - I couldn't possibly comment.”)

madcatladyforever · 09/01/2020 03:04

I was thinking this earlier OP the abuse they have suffered is appalling and I'd have run for the hills a long time ago.
It is racism at its peak. Dreadful. Relentless awful persecution that never ends.

missyoumuch · 09/01/2020 03:09

Her race and her nationality are the majority of why she gets so much hate.

The average white British woman cannot relate to her, they see her as foreign and different no matter how open-minded they claim to be. And so anything negative she does is viewed very uncharitably.

As a BME woman I have been surprised to hear conversations that white women have about MM in my absence versus how they speak of her in my presence - they are far more negative when they don't know I am listening. That tells me all I need to know really.
