The only Black/mixed race member of the royal family has been bullied and insulted to the point that she's made the decision to step back.

OP posts:
Butchyrestingface · 08/01/2020 19:54

I don’t even see her as black, she’s as American as they come.

What a strange, strange racist comment. What is it about being ‘black’ and ‘American’ that is mutually exclusive?

ThebishopofBanterbury · 08/01/2020 19:55

She absolutely has been subject to racial abuse, it's naive to suggest otherwise.

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 08/01/2020 19:55

I think there's lots of reasons for the hate.

Yes, some because she's black, some because she's American, some because she's divorced, an actress etc.

The vast majority I've personally seen/heard is because of her outspoken opinions.

Lailaha · 08/01/2020 19:56

It's perfectly possible to dislike someone and that have nothing to do with their race, their religion or their nationality.

Just so you know, OP

PlanDeRaccordement · 08/01/2020 19:56

They weren't sex workers!

I never said actresses were sex workers nose person, you did.
I said they are only one step above sex workers, therefore not sex workers.

But you are ignoring the many living actresses on MeToo who spoke out about the 1990s and even then they would put in their CV “directors rights recognised” which was short for “I am willing to have sex with the director for a part” several actresses on MeToo stated they did in fact offer sex for parts but felt it was wrong because of power dynamics. Not all the actresses were threatened with blacklisting if they refused. There is a variety of lived experiences when it comes to the casting couch.

Even a generation ago actresses were still considered mistress material, not the kind of woman an aristocrat (much less royalty) would marry. Grace Kelly marrying the Prince of Monaco was a massive scandal.

There is prejudice from the upper class against certain careers, being an actress is one such career.

Princess Kate gets it. Meghan is young and has fire in her belly but will absolutely get there in my opinion

I know Kate looks older but you know Meghan is actually older than Kate.

As far as I’m concerned, it’s two down, like twenty more to go with the BRF. Would like to see them all as private citizens tbh

I'm old enough to have several women join the royal family and they have all suffered bad press; Diana, Fergie, Camilla, Kate and now Meghan.

She really hasn't suffered any more abuse than they did, but as other posters have said she hasn't yet learnt to smile nicely, not say anything controversial and keep her opinions to herself.

I think she though that she could come in and change the world, which isn't really the role of the British royal family.

Oldbutstillgotit · 08/01/2020 20:01

Perhaps I am naive however I don’t think that the criticism of Meghan has been racist . I am old enough to remember the criticism of Diana ( “clotheshorse , hysterical etc) Sarah Ferguson ( “ Duchess of Pork”) etc etc. Even Catherine was called Waity Katie . My own view is that Meghan ( and Harry ) feel they deserve total admiration/ support and are miffed that it hasn’t been 100% forthcoming especially regarding criticism of them using private planes while lecturing the rest of us about climate change .
They may be stepping back but as far as I can see they are keeping their HRH status and all that entails such as 24/7 security .
I wish them well but I think they want their cake and eat it .

Probably been forced to step down because between them they were destroying the monarchy. Putting the blame on the people is so pathetic and predictable. They are both unliked because of their hypocrisy and deceit. Anyone seen Archie lately.
Hmm

HeresMe · 08/01/2020 20:01

It's nothing to do with race.

Harry and Meghan behaved like entitled hypocritical twats, that's why people don't like them.

I think what Ricky Gervais said about celebs was spot on, stop preaching and get lost.

Actionhasmagic · 08/01/2020 20:03

The racism she has faced is vile - seen some awful comments online especially

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 08/01/2020 20:03

She's 38. That's not particularly young.

Butchyrestingface · 08/01/2020 20:04

Andrew’s peabrain must be exploding right now at the prospect of La Famille Sussex voluntarily choosing to do what he was only forced into courtesy of a loaded corgi snapping at his heels.

pregantandengaged · 08/01/2020 20:05

What everybody seems to forget is that Meghan has made a name/career for herself in her own right before she even met Harry. She's a strong independent woman, but no one focuses on these things because it doesn't make a good story.

If I was her I wouldn't want to be a royal, it's just what Harry came with as part of the package.

PlanDeRaccordement · 08/01/2020 20:05

^even then they would put in their CV “directors rights recognised” "

Bull. Shit.^

I respect you acted for ten years, but Sir Ian MacKellan has publicly confirmed that this was commonplace.

Butchyrestingface · 08/01/2020 20:06

The Royal Family is a sheltered workshop for entitled, hypocritical, sponging twats.

Mydogmylife · 08/01/2020 20:07

@Oldbutstillgotit
Totally agree

Toomuchtrouble4me · 08/01/2020 20:07

The press had a right old go at Kate-remember the gum chewing air hostess mum stories? The dodgy uncle in Spain dealing coke? But she kept her mouth shut and never complained. The royals live in such privilege funded by us, no wonder people aren't tolerant to Meghan's whinging - people have real problems to deal with.
They don’t want the job, which is fine, so long as they give up the money - and the freebies, and the security - let them go and live as they choose - but if they won’t do the job, I do not want to pay one penny for them.

Livelovebehappy · 08/01/2020 20:07

I really don’t think it’s got anything to do with race. It’s mostly because she’s a strong woman who has her own opinions and isn’t afraid to voice them, which doesn’t always go down well with some people. So I think it’s more likely sexist than racist. But like anyone who is criticised , if they’re not white British, then some people assume that it is due to racism, whether the criticism is justified or not. I really like her, and wish them lots of luck.

Heresme I loved Ricky Gervais speech. I think this will be the year when we find out all the lies and deceptions. People are waking up.

EmmiJay · 08/01/2020 20:19

Whew! The naive nerve of some posters...👀🍿

noodlenosefraggle · 08/01/2020 20:24

Putting aside the fact that a bunch of inbred freeloaders have the cheek to look down on anyone's not something we should be pandering to, at least 2 of Harry's exes were actors. Bet they wouldn't have got as much grief. But they were both British and white.
