do what you like

TeenPlusTwenties · 26/12/2019 20:36

Well, ours haven't been up for a week yet.

Why not take everything down except the lights?

rednsparkley · 26/12/2019 20:39

Mine are down and back in the loft. Mainly so the DCs have room for the Scalectrix and lego building. Mine are always down before NYE though. I like to start the NY with a clean and tidy house

coconuttelegraph · 26/12/2019 20:40

Do what you want, no permission needed from the rest of us

ghostyslovesheets · 26/12/2019 20:41

do what you like - it's your home

but this is becoming such a thing isn't it - whack the decks up 1st Dec - post all over Insta and FB - be utterly sick of them by Boxing Day

Mine go up the week before and stay up until 12th night - but then I am old and old fashioned

TobyTanker · 26/12/2019 20:42

Our tree and decorations go up Christmas Eve, always have. We'll be taking them down this weekend.

TotheletterofthelawTHELETTER · 26/12/2019 20:43

I took mine down this afternoon.
I’ve been having a depressive episode for a few weeks now and every time I’ve looked at the tree I’ve wanted to take it down as I just can’t be bothered this year. DD went to her Dad’s at 4pm, tree was down and put away by 5pm.

belay · 26/12/2019 20:44

Our tree is being taken down tomorrow. Fairy lights stay up in the window

Iwantacookie · 26/12/2019 20:44

Do what you like. I'm taking mine down over the weekend.

WobblyAllOver · 26/12/2019 20:44

If you want it down take it down.

Mine go up on the 1st or nearest weekend to it and are down before I go back to work after New Year's Day.

HairyFloppins · 26/12/2019 20:45

Mine are staying up to after New Year as they always do.

Take yours down though if you want. We are still celebrating Christmas here.

LoveNote · 26/12/2019 20:46

teen ds is taking mine down tomorrow

might leave some lights up....cards will go to recycling

done with it all!!

cakeandchampagne · 26/12/2019 20:47

You could put everything away, except the lights. Put the lights up somewhere in your house where your baby can enjoy them.

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 26/12/2019 20:47

The Xmas police will arrest you. I hope you didn’t do any washing yesterday either? Wink

Really, do what you like. It’s your house! No-one else cares.

patchworkpatty · 26/12/2019 20:48

Our tree goes up the Saturday before Christmas, and comes down on 12th night. That is Christmas.

BreconBeBuggered · 26/12/2019 20:48

Unless you have a particular reason for taking them down, it's deeply unnatural not to see in the new year with the decorations still up.

dudsville · 26/12/2019 20:49

Mine are a December thing 1st to the 31st, both occasions involve wine, music and it's fun!

patchworkpatty · 26/12/2019 20:49

Have a look around all your local towns, and see when the lights come down . 12th night.

LoveNote · 26/12/2019 20:50

lol its not 'deeply unnatural' AT ALL to take the feckers down!!

thats the funniest thing ive seen on mumsnet today!

PG2018 · 26/12/2019 20:50

I'm 39 weeks pregnant and DD due on the 30th so I'm tempted to take mine down tomorrow. I would say do what makes you happy!

LoveNote · 26/12/2019 20:52

nobody bothers with the 12th night thing.....plenty putter decs up in early december. even november!

its not really religious anymore for the majority!

DamnShesaSexyChick · 26/12/2019 20:52

Why do people on here think Christmas starts in early December and finishes on Christmas Day? It starts on Christmas Day and finishes after New Year! This week is the festive period.

supadupapupascupa · 26/12/2019 20:52

We normally put them up close to beginning of dec until the new year, this year they went up 17th and I think we will do this again, I'm feeling much more festive, not sick of it yet. Coming down at end of Christmas 6th jan

Yetanotherwinter · 26/12/2019 20:53

Mine will probably come down tomorrow. Don’t feel under pressure to keep them up for longer than you want. Your little one won’t know any different.

theSnuffster · 26/12/2019 20:56

I can't wait to pack it all away. Feel the same every year. I'm forcing myself to leave it for a while longer though. Ideally New Year's Day at least but can't see that happening!
