why does christmas need to linger into a new year? nobody wants to spend first few days hoovering up needles/going up into lofts!

now, did someone mention mini eggs?

daisypond · 26/12/2019 22:08

why does christmas need to linger into a new year? Because there are 12 Days of Christmas- as in the carol. Starting Christmas Day. It includes New Year as part of the same set of festivities.

Chesntoots · 26/12/2019 22:09

Mine are down as from this morning. I hate clutter!

There's only me and the cat so that might make a difference

Parker231 · 26/12/2019 22:10

Christmas = December
New Year = January

Muckyboots1 · 26/12/2019 22:13

Mine is coming down this weekend. We put it up on the 17th but we've had a rubbish Christmas and I'm desperate for a clean house and a fresh start to the New Year.

You must live in a big house if you keep it up until twelfth night. It's right in the way in our tiny labourer's cottage. Right in the baby's play area. I'd be happy to have it up longer if we had the room and if everyone was off work and having lots of jolly feasts right up until twelfth night, but they're bloody not are they

Salene · 26/12/2019 22:15

Taking our down tomorrow as husband goes back to work and won't be home again till 22nd January so not sure I can cope with Santa and co on my front lawn till then 🤣

Normally would leave them up till 3rd jan

WalkAwaySugarbear · 26/12/2019 22:17

Mine came down today but we are going on holiday tomorrow and didn't want to come back to decorations. We usually take them down before NYE anyway, I like to deep clean before the New Year.

selmabear · 26/12/2019 22:18

I've started. I take one thing down every day. Everything's down and kept away for when the kids go back to school.

MinesaPinot · 26/12/2019 22:19

It's up to you. Ours went up on 1 December (a week earlier than normal) and will stay up until 1 January. No hard and fast rules though.

feelingverylazytoday · 26/12/2019 22:20

Just out of interest, what exactly are you supposed to do for the twelve days of christmas?
Take it down whenever you feel like it, OP. I'll probably take mine down Saturday.

Equanimitas · 26/12/2019 22:28

Seems pretty miserable to take them down now. Keep them till 12th night.

Twofurrycatsagain · 26/12/2019 22:42

I keep mine until 12th night. I like them, spent ages buggering about putting things up and feel drab without them.

Equanimitas · 26/12/2019 22:45

DP wants to keep them up til new year though, so I'll try to bare with it til then!

You're planning to be naked till the New Year? That's definitely adventurous.

Jinglebella123 · 26/12/2019 22:55

Yep I’m one of those people they go up 1st November down after Boxing Day... too much clutter does my head it and like to celebrate the fact Christmas is over...hip hip horay..

Alconleigh · 26/12/2019 22:56

Yeah rip it all down Boxing Day so you can concentrate on the sales...you've had your socials through December after all, what's the point, amirite?!
Cosy of everything, value of nothing.......

Alconleigh · 26/12/2019 22:57

Cost even

NoSauce · 26/12/2019 22:58

It would feel weird to take it down before NYE. But do it if it will make you feel better OP.

AwakeAmbs · 26/12/2019 23:01

Awe I love having the tree and decs over NYE, it’s so festive and cosey..we take it down sometime in the first week of Jan depending on needle shedding..decs probably 1st Jan x

nearlythere12 · 26/12/2019 23:06

I would find it weird to take them down before New Year's day (at the earliest) as for me Christmas Eve till the 1st is party season. Christmas has only just started in our house & we have ice skating, panto, catching up with friends to do so tree stays up.

GreyHare · 26/12/2019 23:08

@alconleigh wtf are you on, I have brought and plan to buy nothing in the sales, I just don't have the room or like the clutter, hate new year and like to go into January with a clean tidy clutter free home.

FilthyBiscuit · 26/12/2019 23:10

Mine are coming down tomorrow or at the weekend. I had a good clean and tidy before putting the tree up and it just feels cluttered now. I've got next week off work and want a clear mind and home after a hectic year.

Pandora73 · 26/12/2019 23:10

I bet most of the lot wanting it all taken down already have had the bloody decorations and tree up since November ?!! You’re probably sick of the sight of it. I don’t get how you think thems end of November/beginning of December of more Christmas than the week between Christmas and new year. I see it every year on my fb; the ones that have it up in November always post Boxing Day to say they’re taken it all down and lacked away. It’s just weord

Pandora73 · 26/12/2019 23:11

Weird

JoyceJames · 26/12/2019 23:13

No way. Unless they've been up for weeks. Mine have only been up a few days, so we're keeping them till new year.

duckme · 26/12/2019 23:14

@ghostyslovesheets we have traditionally put our decorations up around the 15th of December and taken them down the 6th January. However this year, the decorations were up the 1st December. I took the tree down today. I couldn't stand it any longer! Our two year old broke a bauble nearly every day and while last year, I thought the fact that the tree leaned forward was funny, this year it drove me crazy! So now it is down and will be given away.
Next year we will do it as we've always done it. I don't know what came over me this year!!
