Some of us have been working and not had a Christmas yet.Mine starts tommorrow after a nap when I finish work in the morning.
My tree only went up the weekend before and we don't do decorations apart from cards.I likesitting with just the fairy lights on(the tree that is not me)

sue51 · 26/12/2019 23:15

Mine go up around the 20th and stay till 12th night. If I put them up in early December I would probably be fed up of them by now.

BluePheasant · 26/12/2019 23:19

YANBU. Do what makes you happy, if you've had enough of it now then pack it away. It's quite refreshing to get the space back and declutter a bit. You might feel differently next year, sounds as though you've had a tough time and just need to move on.

I tend to keep mine up til the 12 night (ish) and it goes up a week or two before Christmas but I always get a real tree and to only have it up a few days wouldn't seem worth it!

SachaStark · 26/12/2019 23:20

Mine go up on Christmas Eve, and stay up until Twelfth Night. I simply don’t understand why people do it the opposite way. Up on the last weekend of November and down on Boxing Day?! But it’s only the second day of Christmas!!

And I’m young as well, but all of my friends are like, “November 25th, decs are up!” Maybe I’m old-fashioned for my age.

Plus, I got my real tree for a quid. A single English pound. Because they were being sold off, due to the trend of these crazy people putting their decs up four weeks early. So I guess you should all continue, because it’s saving me money!

happyandsingle · 26/12/2019 23:20

I'm just glad it's over! Christmas is crap for a lot of people we dont all have a Disney christmas and this year seems less festive than most.
Apart from a few decorations on the odd door you couldn't even tell it was Christmas! Cant wait for the new year!

Parker231 · 26/12/2019 23:23

Why do some posters think we must have decorations up until 12th night? 12th night has no meaning to me - decorations go up the week before Christmas and come down NYE - that is OUR FAMILY tradition and will remain so.

Christmas for us starts early in December when there are parties and special outings with friends. Nearer to Christmas my family arrives from Belgium, DH’s family comes over from Canada and the US and most importantly DT’s are home from Uni.

We have a huge tree in the hall and one in the living room but decorations aren’t important (although they appear to be the main part of Christmas to some posters). To us having our family with makes Christmas not baubles and tinsel.

DH and I are back at work tomorrow. The tree and decorations will come down on NYE to make extra space for the party which is the end of Christmas celebrations and the start of a new year.

DappledThings · 26/12/2019 23:32

nobody bothers with the 12th night thing..

Well that's patently bollcks isn't it? Might be that a lot of people don't bother anymore but it's far from nobody. The vast majority of commercial premises and council run decorations stay up till 6th January. I've lived in a lot of different councils and never seen one do their Xmas tree curbside collection before the 6th so they obviously expect people to be mostly keeping up the tradition.

Topseyt · 26/12/2019 23:33

The DDs out our tree and a few decs up the weekend before Christmas. I take them down either New Year's Eve or New Year's Day. Any longer I just can't stick them.

nearlythere12 · 26/12/2019 23:35

agree with you @DappledThings
I didn't know taking them down on Boxing Day was a thing until I read about it on MNs. The 2nd week of Jan is when the pavements in my area are chock full of trees.

80sMum · 26/12/2019 23:37

You can take yours down if you like, OP.

Mine, on the other hand, have only been up for 3 days so are still a novelty and I like looking at them. I'll take them down on 5th January as usual.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 26/12/2019 23:41

Mine went up on the 24th so it would be a bit premature for me to take them down now Grin.

But OP - do what you like really. Smile

SachaStark · 26/12/2019 23:42

A lot of my friends on Instagram seem to consider it some kind of bloody race to pack them away: “Boxing Day! Decs all tidied away and living room #hinched! Now for a cheeky glass of Prosecco!”

Like it’s somehow super organised to get them down straight away, and you are well lazy for leaving them up past Boxing Day/New Year’s. No, you just don’t understand how the 12 Days of Christmas works, you absolute ham.

JingleBellsFartlekSmells · 26/12/2019 23:46

My neighbour put hers up in November and will keep it up til March. Then she'll put up an Easter tree. Her DC really love Xmas.
I'm taking mine down this wknd. Do what you like!

MrsToothyBitch · 27/12/2019 00:16

Ours go up mid Dec - on the 25th this year- and come down between New Years Day and Twelfth Night. The days after Christmas Day are still Christmas time, I quite like them and feel quite festive. I don't like the huge over-hyped early build up and decs up early. The only thing we put up "early" are Advent Lights- which are perfectly appropriate.

MrsToothyBitch · 27/12/2019 00:17

On the 15th even! today has been boozy

Crunchymum · 27/12/2019 00:22

Who doesn't like to sit and look at their droopy Christmas tree on NYE Grin

Mine goes down on 1st or 2nd (depending on hangover !)

BackforGood · 27/12/2019 00:26

YANBU to do what you want in your own home (if others in your home agree with you) , but it seems a shame to me, to take them down so early.
I love this period of "Christmassyness" particularly between Christmas and New Year.
We tend to take them down by 12th night, or sometimes by the day before they go back to school - whichever is sooner.

80sMum · 27/12/2019 00:28

Who doesn't like to sit and look at their droopy Christmas tree on NYE

Mine isn't droopy! It's only been indoors for 3 days and I water it every day.

hazell42 · 27/12/2019 01:10

When did you put them up?
This is why I always do mine in Christmas eve, because otherwise you get sick of them too early.
And even then I've had enough by new years eve.
Next year, why nor waIt a while before you out them up

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 27/12/2019 05:56

Our tree went up on the 17th and will come down on 6th Jan. Still looks lovely. I always hate taking it down - God knows January is dreary enough anyway.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 27/12/2019 06:37

All these 'taking my tree down now' posts on fucking Boxing Day give me an atavistic urge to leave the whole thing up until Candlemas.

That'll learn 'em.

(It obviously won't. But my warm sense of superiority will be further coddled).

Dongdingdong · 27/12/2019 07:06

It’s so miserable to take them down when Christmas is still going on, but hey, each to their own...

Dongdingdong · 27/12/2019 07:07

A lot of my friends on Instagram seem to consider it some kind of bloody race to pack them away: “Boxing Day! Decs all tidied away and living room #hinched! Now for a cheeky glass of Prosecco!”

Ugh, that’s so depressing!

WobblyAllOver · 27/12/2019 07:08

The people that like tradition will do the 12th night.

There will be those that prefer to start close to xmas day will feel that taking them down now is too soon as they have just started.

Then there are others (I am more in this camp) that enjoy the run up to it and put the tree up at the beginning of December and view Boxing Day as the end of Christmas.

Thank god we are all different Grin

madcatladyforever · 27/12/2019 07:09

I never put them up as I'm on my own (working) this year. A one year old won't remember at all so take them down if you want to. I only put them up if I am having people round.
