To think MN is a Hard Left echo chamber

DowntownAbby · 13/12/2019 00:14

And that's why so, so many MNers are baffled that the Conservatives are going to achieve a landslide victory over Labour.

Out there is the real world, there was far less support for Corbyn but most MNers couldn't see what was coming.

Most MN dont appear to work
Rely on their husbands to work
Hope its a Tory landslide
I dont recall making the NHS better when Blair et all were in charge and almost bankrupted this country last time

DexyMidnight · 13/12/2019 00:17

Yep. The labour supporters on here in recent days have spewed hyperbolic, patronising, bigoted and hysterical hectoring of anyone who doesn't agree with them.

PrimalLass · 13/12/2019 00:18

Not hard left. Centrist. Labour aren't though.

Gingerkittykat · 13/12/2019 00:24

There are plenty of heartless tories on here, and tory bots who come in and start benefit bashing threads.

TheClaws · 13/12/2019 00:26

Never found that. Just the opposite, actually. I’ve always found Left/centrist supporters to be tempered in their replies, but the Right full of hate and outright untruths.

CripsSandwiches · 13/12/2019 00:29

MN on average is on the middling to higher level of education and tend to be slightly younger than the average voter and there is therefore a leaning towards labour but not more than those demographics in the general population and it's certainly not hard left. If there was a chat room with mainly people educated to GCSE or lower level it would similarly reflect that and be more supportive of Tory/Leave.

Sorry, but I think you must have been on a different site. The vitriol towards tory voters has been insane over the last few days

MereDintofPandiculation · 13/12/2019 00:29

If today's Labour are "hard left", then where do you place the government that set up the NHS?

DowntownAbby · 13/12/2019 00:30

Crikey @TheClaws, have you not seen some of the bile and vitriol posted tonight?

It's been an eye opener.

And you accuse tory voters of being smug and superior?

Paintedmaypole · 13/12/2019 00:31

How do you define Hard Left?

TheFaerieQueene · 13/12/2019 00:33

It feels as though there is a vocal minority on MN from both the left and right who seem intent on hurling abuse at anyone who disagrees/ or appears to disagree with them. It does nothing to encourage or establish a debate. It is not a new phenomenon here though!

DowntownAbby · 13/12/2019 00:34

I really don't know @MereDintofPandiculation but I'm stunned that Labour have misjudged the appeal of their policies so badly this time around.

There's now no credible opposition, even.

What a mess.

On here, if you’re a Tory, you’re a;

Cunt
Murderer
Hate the nhs
Rich
Twat
Hate the old
Racist

Etc etc. That’s why must Tory voters stay quiet. The vitriol aimed towards anyone who dares admit they are..... harsh.

PointlessUsername · 13/12/2019 00:37

And very much so tonight. I have seen posters told to fuck off, called a cunt & told to contract awful illnesses.

All because they have voted a different way.

shinynewapplesonachristmastree · 13/12/2019 00:40

I've just been looking down exit polls seat by seat and am surprised at the number of areas I would consider to be predominantly working class where it is predicted to either remain a Tory seat or a Tory gain from Labour.

Seems as though Conservative is the new Labour for a lot of the country. Something the Labour Party really needs to look at.

DowntownAbby · 13/12/2019 00:41

@Paintedmaypole

Closing down private education.
Compulsory purchase of empty properties.
Commandeering of private businesses.

That sort of thing.

Agree though it is wrong to call people scum and such like because they have a different opinion from you

Have a look at some of the other threads on the election results - so many posts calling tory voters thick, racist idiots etc, telling them to fuck off and calling them cunts. All the same vitriol that was spewed at leave voters too. I've read 3 or 4 of the exit poll threads and its the same on all of them, have a look.

Left leaning posters dominate debate with their superiority complex and don't listen to others' objections, swear at them, insult them and then wonder why people don't want to talk about politics with them.

30to50FeralHogs · 13/12/2019 00:45

Another thread on here is a woman saying she wants to divorce her DH because he voted tory FFS! The fact that they have a huge majority seems to be irrelevant - people who vote for them are treated like they've voted for Hitler.

MarshaBradyo · 13/12/2019 00:48

It’s particularly bad tonight of course. Unhappy and posting about it.

It is a bit tone deaf to deny that Labour brought about this loss with the wrong approach. Lots of lashing out based on other reasons (selfish etc).

Whizbang · 13/12/2019 00:52

Attention Momentum Thugs.....
Get back in your box. The massive majority is not interested in your whining or abuse. Stop bullying and trying to silence others. We all think you’re full of shit.

Dapplegrey · 13/12/2019 00:58

I agree. I’m surprised those comments haven’t been removed - maybe whoever is on duty tonight at mn towers agrees with them!

christma5 · 13/12/2019 00:58

Not just on here, Facebook too. Hoards of people reposting quotes about voting in the interest of people who aren't doing so well etc. I said to DH I wonder how many people are reposting that shit to pretend to be labour to avoid being called heartless, selfish etc.

DowntownAbby · 13/12/2019 00:59

@Dapplegrey I wondered that too!

Very surprised that some of the comments are still there.
