Whiny and ungrateful DS

So DS (6) has been badgering me for some big outdoor xmas decorations as a few houses in our road have really gone to town - think inflatable snowmen and santas riding sleighs and a shit ton of lights. Money is very tight at the moment and these sort of decorations are expensive but I didn't want to disappoint him so I spent all morning adapting some existing outdoor halloween decorations we had in the shed ( a four foot Frankenstein and a four foot witch) and made them into Santa Claus and Mrs Claus by adding red/white clothes and hats and wigs and a beard for Santa. It took me ages especially I was "helped" (hindered) by DD (20 months) but was still pleased with the finished result. Anyway when he came home from school and saw them he started crying and pulling at their clothes and spent an hour lying on the sofa crying saying "I don't like Santa with a nail in his neck" (he means the bolt) and "I don't want Mrs Claus to have a big nose". I am gutted - me and DD spent ages on them and DD loves them and keeps looking at them out of the window and clapping. I think he's tired from his school play last night as he was in bed very late but I don't think I'm being unreasonable to say he's ungrateful after I went to all that trouble. Also I asked my neighbour what she thought and she said her granddaughter (she's about 12) had said they "looked weird" and had sent a picture of them on her phone to her friends. I don't know why I bothered now but at least DD loves them.

SHOW US!!!!!!!

KurriKurri · 12/12/2019 21:57

Just add a scarecrow and a clown and watch out the window for kids daring each other to run past your house.

TheresWaldo · 12/12/2019 21:58

Jeez

CantstandmLMs · 12/12/2019 21:58

We need photos. This sounds hilarious 🤣

gamerchick · 12/12/2019 21:59

I would love something like that Grin

When my elder 2 were little they asked for a tent, so I made the sheet across 2 chairs thing I did as a kid.

They weren't impressed.

This sort of stuff is always going cheap in January, maybe if funds allow, pick up a couple of inflatables for next year?

FoamingAtTheUterus · 12/12/2019 21:59

Crying with laughter at ' I don't like santa with a nail in his neck. '

Fucking hell 😂😂😂😂😂

Yahboosnubsme · 12/12/2019 22:00

This sounds hilarious, don't be too hard on him, your poor son wasn't quite expecting this!

FoamingAtTheUterus · 12/12/2019 22:01

And now the cat and dp have.just walked out looking at me.like.this. Hmm

😂😂😂😂😂

Booboostwo · 12/12/2019 22:02

He’s only 6, don’t take it to heart.

We need a photo now.

MarthasGinYard · 12/12/2019 22:02

'The bolt is mainly hidden by the collar of santa's coat but DS recognised it'

Sorry Op that is fucking hilarious

MarthasGinYard · 12/12/2019 22:03

Photo or scary santa ain't realGrin

FoamingAtTheUterus · 12/12/2019 22:03

Teen DS has even appeared to.investigate. Oh I need a wee 😂😂😂 My poor, pelvic floor can't cope with Frankensanta 😂😂😂😂😂

elQuintoConyo · 12/12/2019 22:04

Can I nominate this for classics? I cannot stop laughing!

Molly2016 · 12/12/2019 22:04

I also need a photo before I can properly assess whether or not YABU.

Mrsappleby · 12/12/2019 22:04

I need to see them to make a judgement Grin

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 12/12/2019 22:05

Really. You genuinely thought you could create Santa out of a green monster you happened to have in the shed...?

DaphneFanshaw · 12/12/2019 22:05

We really do need to see pictures.

EdersonsSmileyTattoo · 12/12/2019 22:07

Awwwww OP, you went to so much trouble and tried so hard but it does sound a bit bizarre!

Definitely try and pick some up cheap in the January sales!

ReanimatedSGB · 12/12/2019 22:07

OK, so you put a lot of effort in... but your DS is only 6 and wouldn't understand how much time it took you. Neither of you is being unreasonable, really. You tried to do something nice and it wasn't appreciated; he wanted something that looked like what other people have - and quite possibly found your efforts scary.

Thestrangestthing · 12/12/2019 22:07

Jeez, I think I would cry at that.

Thestrangestthing · 12/12/2019 22:08

Actually I refuse to believe it until I see proof.

headlock · 12/12/2019 22:09

I feel for you both!! You've done your best but he wants Christmas stuff! What about one of the projectors that shine on your house? Not overly expensive but a big show?

Pilot12 · 12/12/2019 22:11

It sounds awful and embarrassing for your poor son. It's the kind of thing my cheapskate DP would do! Could you not have a look in Aldi, they had some cheap outdoor stuff or you could have just said no.

Schmoozer · 12/12/2019 22:13

He’s 6 and he liked what the other houses have, that sucks for you, but he’s only 6
Yabu !

Sagelistener · 12/12/2019 22:17

Waiting for the photo on this one!
