Whiny and ungrateful DS

So DS (6) has been badgering me for some big outdoor xmas decorations as a few houses in our road have really gone to town - think inflatable snowmen and santas riding sleighs and a shit ton of lights. Money is very tight at the moment and these sort of decorations are expensive but I didn't want to disappoint him so I spent all morning adapting some existing outdoor halloween decorations we had in the shed ( a four foot Frankenstein and a four foot witch) and made them into Santa Claus and Mrs Claus by adding red/white clothes and hats and wigs and a beard for Santa. It took me ages especially I was "helped" (hindered) by DD (20 months) but was still pleased with the finished result. Anyway when he came home from school and saw them he started crying and pulling at their clothes and spent an hour lying on the sofa crying saying "I don't like Santa with a nail in his neck" (he means the bolt) and "I don't want Mrs Claus to have a big nose". I am gutted - me and DD spent ages on them and DD loves them and keeps looking at them out of the window and clapping. I think he's tired from his school play last night as he was in bed very late but I don't think I'm being unreasonable to say he's ungrateful after I went to all that trouble. Also I asked my neighbour what she thought and she said her granddaughter (she's about 12) had said they "looked weird" and had sent a picture of them on her phone to her friends. I don't know why I bothered now but at least DD loves them.

I love that some people are engaging with this seriously.

Ohyesiam · 13/12/2019 13:35

I too like you op. But you know it’s really ok to say no to your kids, especially when you have a good reason, like you can’t afford it.
Kids know where they stand with a no, it’s not a tragedy for them.

MiaowMix · 13/12/2019 13:38

maybe your neighbour's granddaughter can forward you the pics op, then you can share them with the thread? Smile

Or just send us a pic of the hilarious Frankensanta yourself? Unless it's been actually thrown away...

labazsisgoingmad · 13/12/2019 13:39

cant you get just some pretty lights places like the cheapy shops have them just check they are outdoor lights lots of them are suitable indoors and out or why not put a request on freecycle/freegle someone might have a christmas decoration kicking around

Sparkletastic · 13/12/2019 13:45

Good try OP. God knows I needed cheering up today. Fully here for made up shit.

1AngelicFruitCake · 13/12/2019 13:47

You sound like a lovely Mum! I think a lot of people think they’re a great parent when they book loads of stuff online or give in to their child’s every whim and buy them whatever they want. I think the fact you spent 3 hours of your time making your child happy is amazing!

mummmy2017 · 13/12/2019 13:47

Your going to need to grow a thicker skin with a demanding DS.
You need to tell him, No.
Tell him the truth all the Christmas things cost money and there is no budget for massive Santa's.
Better to square up to him now, as soon it will be phones, games consoles and named brands.

70sWitch · 13/12/2019 13:54

FrankenSanta still not as embarrassing as last year's "tinsel covered sex doll" a mumsnetter's neighbour treated the street to.
OP's son should think himself lucky Xmas Grin

MountPheasant · 13/12/2019 14:56

Even though this is clearly made up, it still gave me a good chuckle. Frankensanta could yet show up on Motherland if the BBC catch wind of it.

Trolls take note, this is how you fake thread- a fun, inoffensive story that we can all enjoy without it getting pulled for being too OTT.

Mumsnet, it’s been suggested before but can we have a section for troll threads? Some are great fun and don’t deserve deletion!

BooseysMom · 13/12/2019 15:16

👍it's genius. 3 hours to create earns you a nice big Xmas drink OP Wine

WeirdCatLady · 13/12/2019 15:28

I don’t care if you’re making this up. OP, I voted for you. Mind you, we’re a bit weird here Xmas Envy

I want a FrankenSanta!

Greenglassteacup · 13/12/2019 15:33

Love this

Pursefirst · 13/12/2019 15:57

OP, thank you so much for providing this comedy gold on an otherwise grim day.

I laughed so much my colleague asked me what was up and all I could wheeze out was "FrankenSanta...bolt in his NECK" and now she rightly thinks that I've completely lost the plot.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 13/12/2019 15:58

Bless you, @sauvignonandcheesecake - I can absolutely understand why you are upset about your ds’s reaction - you did a lovely thing, with the best of intentions. It is a shame it missed the mark with your son - I suspect he is tired - they all get crabby at this point in the term - and he’s maybe a bit young to appreciate a bit of weirdness.

Hopefully the fact that FrankenSanta Xmas Envy has been such a hit with posters on here will cheer you up a bit.

IsoscelesSandwich · 13/12/2019 16:06

Absolute wind up surely?

Smurfy23 · 13/12/2019 17:33

This is the sort of thing DM would have done. I would have been mortified and so can empathise with DS.Its It's the sort of thing she would do now and I'd find it hilarious. So you keep doing you- he, like me, will develop a thicker skin and will be all the better for it. However in the meantime I so empathise with him!

altiara · 13/12/2019 17:48

Sounded amazing. Think you’d be trending on twitter if the 12 year old was a bit older and there’d be cars diverting to see the display.

CustardySergeant · 13/12/2019 17:57

He looks lovely

Whiny and ungrateful DS
1300cakes · 13/12/2019 18:30

They don't make quality trolls like you anymore OP. 10/10

This reminds me of the sinister Easter bonnet thread (except that had a pic and was real).

EarringsandLipstick · 13/12/2019 20:48

@IsoscelesSandwich

Absolute wind up surely?

Totally!

minipie · 13/12/2019 20:59

Have to say I don’t think your DH is helping matters by going out shopping for other decorations.... what’s that going to teach your DS? Firstly that if he has a strop he gets what he wants and secondly that if Mum says we can’t afford something then try asking Dad instead.

winewolfhowls · 13/12/2019 21:03

I think this sounds amazing!

Etinox · 13/12/2019 21:57

Awesome 😎 Xmas Grin

DeeCeeCherry · 13/12/2019 22:02
