AIBU?
AIBU in thinking plates should be white?

I would permit a thin pattern around the edge, but pictures where the food goes is unacceptable. Plates that are totally coloured are also out.
You should be concentrating on the food rather than some foliage, weird shapes, hunting scene or whatever, partly hidden underneath it. And coloured plates could lead to unpleasant clashes. Imagine eating some purple food from an orange plate!
It's only a short step from coloured plates to eating off slates.

I partially agree with you - I'm not fussed too much about colour, although I am not a fan of dark coloured plates - but no bloody giant flowers in purple (it's always fucking purple) in the middle!
Now, texture of crockery: that I could get really upset about. Those grainy, matte effect plates are horrific to eat off. Shiny or nothing.

I see where you're coming from.
There was a really nice set of crockery and they had it in off-white and a beautiful duck egg.
I really wanted the duck egg as I love that colour but felt I should get the white as that's the 'proper' crockery colour and yes the best 'background' for food.
So I bought it in white but couldn't stop thinking about the duck egg so eventually bought that too. I have way too much crockery for one person.
