AIBU in thinking plates should be white?

I would permit a thin pattern around the edge, but pictures where the food goes is unacceptable. Plates that are totally coloured are also out.

You should be concentrating on the food rather than some foliage, weird shapes, hunting scene or whatever, partly hidden underneath it. And coloured plates could lead to unpleasant clashes. Imagine eating some purple food from an orange plate! Shock

It's only a short step from coloured plates to eating off slates.

Are you my DH?

RolytheRhino · 26/11/2019 19:51

Can't get het up about it and have never considered it before, but having given it approximately thirty seconds of thought just now, I'd say YABU. What's life without whimsy?

scaryteacher · 26/11/2019 19:52

I love my Blue Denmark plates. Plain white is soooo boring.

Aderyn19 · 26/11/2019 19:52

Yanbu. Coloured plates are the thin end of the wedge and before you know it you are getting chips in little wanky baskets!

NoHummus · 26/11/2019 19:53

YAB boring. My favourite pasta plates are lime green.

Mysterian · 26/11/2019 19:54

@Apolloanddaphne I don't think so. I don't remember getting married at any point.

I partially agree with you - I'm not fussed too much about colour, although I am not a fan of dark coloured plates - but no bloody giant flowers in purple (it's always fucking purple) in the middle!

Now, texture of crockery: that I could get really upset about. Those grainy, matte effect plates are horrific to eat off. Shiny or nothing.

MephistophelesApprentice · 26/11/2019 19:55

Every type of food looks classier on dark slate gray plates.

Spied · 26/11/2019 19:56

Love the hunting scene plates. Reminds me of my childhood.
If I'm buying though- I buy white.

CAG12 · 26/11/2019 19:58

My god you'd hate coming to my house for dinner. ALL my plates are different patterns. Nothing matches. Same with the mugs. Same with the breakfast bowls.

bridgetreilly · 26/11/2019 20:00

YABVVVVVU.

Colour is fun, pattern is even more fun. Why shouldn't dinner be fun?

Fizzypoo · 26/11/2019 20:01

I agree, all cups should be white on the inside too.

Mysterian · 26/11/2019 20:01

Could you find your food on this plate?

White is the only colour I would have for plates and bedding in this house.

Mysterian · 26/11/2019 20:02

Does this food look tasty?

Absolutely spot on...OWPAA 😉

Fizzypoo · 26/11/2019 20:03

Ahh all my bedding are towels are white too Grin

Needtobuildabridge · 26/11/2019 20:05

Now, what about shape? My plates are square- there's a larger surface area for my greediness Grin

Mysterian · 26/11/2019 20:05

And white looks cleaner. Hygienic. Pure. Precisely the suface I want to eat my KFC off.

A thin gold, silver or dark ring on fine china perhaps for formal dining but happy to have blue striped or yellow rimmed on chunkier crockery in beach house, as only ever informal meals.

RolytheRhino · 26/11/2019 20:05

Does this food look tasty?

If you can find a white plate that makes that food look tasty, I'll buy a full set of them. I think that food would look unappetising on any plate.

scaryteacher · 26/11/2019 20:06

Ejaculating penises on a plate never look tasty whatever the colour of the plate.

ooooohbetty · 26/11/2019 20:06

I like black plates. I think food always looks nicer on them.

Fakeflowersaremynewnormal · 26/11/2019 20:07

Mysterian that food wouldn't look tasty no matter what plate it was on.

carrots555 · 26/11/2019 20:07

I see where you're coming from.
There was a really nice set of crockery and they had it in off-white and a beautiful duck egg.
I really wanted the duck egg as I love that colour but felt I should get the white as that's the 'proper' crockery colour and yes the best 'background' for food.
So I bought it in white but couldn't stop thinking about the duck egg so eventually bought that too. I have way too much crockery for one person.
