Hijack alert!!

Rhubarb, do you happen to know of any face to face counselling services specifically for addiction; started a thread but no one's answered as yet?

Rhubarb · 21/08/2007 14:37

the class thing was just to wind you all up.

And I'm a young 17.

And no Wisteria, I'm afraid not. dh didn't have any one-to-one counselling. He just had doctors and psychiatrists coming in and injecting his arse with drugs whilst musing to each other about the links between drugs and psychosis.

And for the record, he did just as many drugs as his friends did, he never overdosed. But he was of that frame of mind. If you are already prone to mental health illnesses, then drugs are a bad idea. Not that you know you are prone until it's too late. But dh's mother had pnd, his sister had a nervous breakdown, it kinda ran in his family.

It's one reason why I'll never touch them. I'd end up a bloody wreck.

Wisteria · 21/08/2007 14:46

your poor dh - yes I agree with you completely, it's a personality thing, some people just can't take it and it's a tragedy when that happens. Really glad he has come out the other side though - that shows great strength of character IMO.

Rhubarb · 21/08/2007 14:51

I think it's made him more understanding and empathetic wisteria. When I had ante-natal depression with my pregnancies he was the first to spot it and he was just soooo understanding, he never lost faith in me. He knew it wasn't the real me because he'd been there himself. He's a good guy

mm22bys · 21/08/2007 15:54

He is such a waste of space.

If he wasn't PD he would be in jail long time ago.

(Can't believe I took the time to type this, but he irritates me too!).

whiskeyandbeer · 21/08/2007 15:59

i don't know how true that is though. i see people in the courts most days who are repeat drug offenders who seem to receive paltry fines and suspended sentences. where as on another day and another judge you see them sent down. as such there are non-famous people with similar records to doherty who have never seen the inside of a prison as they are all drug addicts and users. where custodial sentences tend to be dished out easier to dealers or people who commit crimes to fund drugs.

Wisteria · 21/08/2007 16:06

I agree, if that were true, the little sod who is making our lives a misery here would have been locked up years ago!

He put a catherine wheel into the local shop's electric vent above the front door the other night and lit it, whilst screaming verbal abuse and the police came (eventually but only because someone called the fire brigade) caught him, sat with him for 10 mins then let him go again. As my DP said, if he'd done that he'd have been down to the station straightaway..... there is no justice but I don't think Docherty gets it any easier tbh. If anything it's worse for him, because they arrest him when they have nothing better to do and of course he can't really hide because the media are following him all the time. If the police arrested and sent down all the people using coke on a daily basis, our prisons would be even more packed than they are now.

4ameternal · 21/08/2007 16:11

You know what, it's not him per se but the way the media seem to have some kind of deal to report every move he makes. He's a sad junkie who just happens to write music, so that means they can fill a few more column inches every day. If he was a sad junkie from a grim estate up north no-one would know he existed.

I don't even think he music is very good.

grouchyoscar · 21/08/2007 16:11

Docherty is a nob, but clever with it. He has a new single out next week , no such thing as bad publicity hey?

Ignore him and he'll go away

The media are looking for a new Cobain tbh. A new musician with 'problems' to live fast, die young and leave a good looking corpse. They are fueling each other's requirements. Sad really

Rhubarb · 21/08/2007 16:12

"good looking" oh come on! I've seen better looking road kill!

CountessDracula · 21/08/2007 16:14

I'm with you on that Rhubarb
He is hideous!

whiskeyandbeer · 21/08/2007 16:15

christ if you think what death did to cobains career think what it could do for doherty.
i mean cobain was an even bigger patheticly mediocre musician lauded above his station.
although he did go the mysterious suicide route, i don't know if pete's likely overdose story will be as marketable.
unless pete outlives us all and becomes the grandad of rock who beat his addiction, cured cancer and is now a role modle for all.

Wisteria · 21/08/2007 16:18

Rhubarb's children are better looking than PD

Rhubarb · 21/08/2007 16:18

Why thank you!

Wisteria · 21/08/2007 16:20
Grin
Wisteria · 21/08/2007 16:31

Rhubarb - methinks you've pulled

4ameternal · 21/08/2007 19:22

Well if they want a new Cobain they might be better off looking towards Amy Winehouse. I think she's a very unhappy person and a lot more talented than PD.

Vulgar · 21/08/2007 19:46

I could forgive Kurt Cobain his drug mis use because at least he was pretty to look at.

PD is revolting. I liked what India Knight said about him: "he has a moon face like an enormous sweating cheese'

aloha · 21/08/2007 19:48

Actually, I think CB was a remarkable artist. And I don't think he could drive, which made him a fuck of a lot less dangerous than Spotty.

emj23 · 21/08/2007 19:51

Has it not occurred to him to just bloody stop carrying drugs around with him everywhere? The police must be constantly watching him and following him around just waiting to arrest him yet again, surely it would be easier for him to just stop being such a gimp?

binkleandflip · 21/08/2007 19:52

why stop carrying them around when there are no consequences of carrying them around anyway (seemingly).

I quite like some of his music but looking at him (and Amy W.) makes me feel dirty.

aloha · 21/08/2007 19:53

Think Amy is really talented. A total fuckup and damaged and sad, but talented.

binkleandflip · 21/08/2007 19:55

talented absolutely. complete dishevelled grubby mess to look at though.

thats great and i'm sure any libertines fans will tell you exactly the same about Doherty. i just think certain artists become hugely over rated through death and cobain is the best example to my mind (probably behind bob marley). where as for my money dave grohl was far and away the most talented musician to come out of nirvana by a country mile.
but as i said before, it's all subjctive as it's based on musical tastes.
