To think that the post office should post envelopes

I went to the post office to post my wedding thank you cards. The counter clerk was quite grumpy and told me off for pushing the cards under the grille!

She then gave me the stamps to stick on myself. I asked her why she couldn’t stamp them and put them in the mail bag behind her and she said the Post Office doesn’t deal with ordinary letters. There was a queue behind me so I had to take the stamps home to put on my envelopes.

The post box in front of the shop was “out of use.”

I know it’s not a big deal in the whole scheme of things but what’s the point in a post office you can’t post from?

OMG. You got married in Maui didn't you?

runoutofideasnow · 14/11/2019 19:04

Seriously?
That's what the post box is for!

PortiaCastis · 14/11/2019 19:05

Lazy bugger

SquashedFlyBiscuit · 14/11/2019 19:06

Er.... if course you stamp them and then post them...

bridgetreilly · 14/11/2019 19:06

Mine do. I mean, they won't stick the stamps on for you - you are being utterly ridiculous to expect that - but if you buy a stamp, stick it on an envelope and ask, they'll put it in the bag to get posted. Well, they do for me, because I smile and ask nicely and don't expect them to do a whole stack of work for me.

Biggobyboo · 14/11/2019 19:06

They had no problem posting my wedding invitations for me a few months ago! And the post box was out of use so I had to walk a mile to the next post box in the rain.

And nope...no wedding in Maui! Confused

😀

MrsMaiselsMuff · 14/11/2019 19:06

There was a queue. She hasn't got time to be putting stamps on your cards.

If the postbox was out of use, you could have put the stamps on and then nipped back to her and asked her to put them in the bag when she finished serving the next customer.

transformandriseup · 14/11/2019 19:07

You could have used the post box but on this one occasion it was out of use.

TitianaTitsling · 14/11/2019 19:07

Why did you have to take them home? They have a wee desk you can do this at do they not and then just pop in the next post box you see?

PortiaCastis · 14/11/2019 19:07

Hahaha. You don't actually think it's reasonable to expect the person behind the counter to stick your stamps on, surely.

Were you in the queue behind the person that had just got married?

Biggobyboo · 14/11/2019 19:08

There was no desk, just the one counter. There was no where else to stand to do it.

And believe me...I was certainly not rude to the lady.

gamerchick · 14/11/2019 19:08

You're joking right? you wanted her to stick on stamps on a ton of letters?

Made me chuckle that did, cheers man. Grin

Biggobyboo · 14/11/2019 19:09

10 in total actually...I wouldn’t say that was a tonne. The other clerk did my invitations with no fuss and there were around 20...

likeridingabike · 14/11/2019 19:12

Wow

gamerchick · 14/11/2019 19:13

That clerk was being nice. There was a queue, read the room, ask for a couple of books of stamps and stamp them yourself.

Then they might stick them in the bag. You were being a bit cheeky expecting someone else to do it for you.

Tannerfamily · 14/11/2019 19:14

YABU. You could have brought them back up to the counter once you had put the stamps on. The main point here is that you expected the clerk to put the stamps on for you.

dementedpixie · 14/11/2019 19:15

You buy stamps in the supermarket, put them on yourself and then post them in the post box often found within the supermarket

runoutofideasnow · 14/11/2019 19:15

Oh no you had to walk a mile in the rain.
If there was only 10 I'm sure you could have managed to stick the stamps on them at the side somewhere and then give them to her to post.

Anyone else wondering why there were only 10 thank you cards but 20 invitations?

onthecoins · 14/11/2019 19:15

Why didn't you put the stamps on yourself? I'm lost. You wanted them to stick stamps on 10 individual envelopes for you?

BadFatty · 14/11/2019 19:15

I've never even thought to do that! Then again, I only go the post office for non standard letter eg larger letters, parcels, airmail. Otherwise I get stamps from a supermarket when I'm shopping and put them in them in the post box

Petrichor11 · 14/11/2019 19:15

YWBU and entitled to think they should stick all your stamps on for you! If you’d stamped them and asked her to put them in the bag I’m sure she would, but she quite rightly isn’t going to waste time sticking your stamps on with an ever growing queue!

Tannerfamily · 14/11/2019 19:16

It might have been quiet when you posted your wedding invites and the clerk was being nice as they were wedding invites. It is not the role of the clerk to stick the stamps on.

Biggobyboo · 14/11/2019 19:16

Because I ordered my thank you cards online and they made a mistake and sent me 10 instead of 20 so I posted the first batch? Confused
