To think that the post office should post envelopes

I went to the post office to post my wedding thank you cards. The counter clerk was quite grumpy and told me off for pushing the cards under the grille!

She then gave me the stamps to stick on myself. I asked her why she couldn’t stamp them and put them in the mail bag behind her and she said the Post Office doesn’t deal with ordinary letters. There was a queue behind me so I had to take the stamps home to put on my envelopes.

The post box in front of the shop was “out of use.”

I know it’s not a big deal in the whole scheme of things but what’s the point in a post office you can’t post from?

They did when we sent invites but not for the thank you cards.

Reason:
Invites were pocket folds and varied by a few gram right around a damn cut-off that meant some invites were pricier than others. According to the guy there, that is not unusual, so we patiently worked our way through the pile. We also had a seperate "pile" of invites with an extra card, some of which were to be posted abroad. So overall more complicated, made sense to weigh them all individually.

Thank You cards were all the same and decidedly in the same price bracket. So bought stamps and got on with our lives.

Post Office twitter account hasn't replied to anyone on the subject of stamps in the last 24 hours

ShatnersWig · 15/11/2019 09:37

Pukkatea I looked for the last three days and couldn't see it, hence asking for a photo/screenshot

@BeautifulTrauma1 what a weird convoluted assumption based on a sentence. OP care to ask if she was BU, everyone said she was and then she makes up a lie to try and prove that she is in the right?

I’m not making her like stupid, she is doing it herself by saying the PO respond in that way without actually posting proof.

AIBU is in no way meant for 'constructive advice'

The self importance is strong with this one.

If you had stuck the stamps on yourself then she would have thrown them in the post bag.

I was rather shocked the first time I was given back my envelop, stamped and dated, and told to put it in the outside box myself! Seems to be a quirk of this country.

YANBU. I am sorry you suffered this unfortunate incident, the audacity of this employee. Shocking write a complaint to your local MP, contact Boris also. This is all down to Brexit 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I work in a post office and I will put stamps on if It's not busy and will always put post in the bag if a customer hands it over already stamped.
However putting the stamps on is not a service we have to provide and as my boss only gets paid 2p a stamp he doesn't want us doing anything that he doesn't get paid for.
I tend to ignore his attitude and pride myself on giving good customer service as I'm sure others do to. We help customers with all kinds of things that aren't part of our job.
