https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7679223/Prince-Harry-Meghan-Markle-not-spending-Christmas-Sandringham.html

Sorry for the Meghan Markle thread and DM link, but I have found this really amusing today.

Story out today saying Harry and Meghan apparently aren't spending Xmas with the Queen this year. Lots of comments below blaming Meghan, saying she's isolating Harry from his family, saying the Queen must be really upset. Everyone at work was chatting about it today saying similar.

Am I missing something? I mean we don't even know if it's true. But even if it is, aren't they entitled to spend Xmas as they please? She has her own mother she may want to see.

Ok I get that it's the Queen and it's the usual tradition but is it really a big deal?

I have never seen such speculation around whether a woman's pregnant than with MM.

And then, when she actually was pregnant, speculation that was fake.

GrumpyHoonMain · 13/11/2019 18:17

Kate has no choice. She has no career outside of the royal family and needs to tow the line otherwise her entire life’s work (becoming queen) will be for nought.

Meghan on the other hand is slowly leading Harry to a meaningful and substantial existence for himself outside of the royal family. She gives him substance and has definitely boosted his reputation internationally no matter what the Uk racists say.

PortiaCastis · 13/11/2019 18:19

Yep she had shoved a pillow up her skirt and was pretending to be upduffed
Hmph what a lot of rubbish!
And then of course there was the thread pulling apart her baby, bitching about a 4 month old really did show us what those posters are like

littlehappyhippo · 13/11/2019 18:20

YANBU.

They are free to do as they please.

Meghan can't do a thing right in the eyes of some.

historysock · 13/11/2019 18:21

Ugh-I don't care either way.
I think it's maybe a bit ill judged after the time they have had lately to do anything to rock the boat-it's not going to make things better for them in certain quarters to be seeming to imply that Christmas with the royals is something they include on their list of things they need to get away from. If they don't want to fuel any fires they are doing the opposite job with this kind of thing. I get it-Megs has had a bad time with the press and it's rubbish, but they are still hardly in a bad position-healthy baby, nice house, seemingly adore each other, plenty of cash-I can't feel sorry for either of them really.

It doesn't really matter that much where they spend Christmas at the end of the day. As long as they stop whinging.

Brefugee · 13/11/2019 18:25

I wouldn't go - they have to arrive in precedence order (so Harry and Megs are pretty ok since he's one of the single-figure-in-lines) but also protocol is that you have to curtsey if you bump into a royal prince or princess - so if you were Megs you'd have to drop a curtsey to Andrew's offspring.

Fuck that. I'd be elsewhere and visiting them on 27th or something.

1forAll74 · 13/11/2019 18:25

I thought they both said weeks ago, that they were having a six weeks break away somewhere,as in going to the USA, no problems with that surely. So they won't be putting their Christmas tree up in November, like lots of people are doing.!

MaybeitsMaybelline · 13/11/2019 18:26

I couldn’t care less. I am bored of Meghan, the actress, the attention seeker, and her circus.

Leave her alone if that’s what she wants, but don't expect us to be interested in her. Or Harry for that matter. Leave them to their privileged lives and give it no more thought.

Meh.

The80sweregreat · 13/11/2019 18:29

This is the problem here, they could just go and live their own lives away from it all and not many people would really care. They don't really need all this crap to be honest. They are rich and could cut the ties easily enough. Makes me wonder why they don't. Maybe they like the money or secretly like the fame? Who really knows what binds them to this life? Maybe it's not as easy as all that to just walk away? Who knows.
The press would have to find someone else to pick on then.

TheMidasTouch · 13/11/2019 18:30

Plenty of newspapers are reporting this so I don't know why people are just slagging off the Daily Mail. Fact is a lot of stuff in the newspapers is true and they do have their contacts.
ITV.com are also reporting it and I heard it on the 5 p.m. news on Channel 5.

Wineanddine23 · 13/11/2019 18:30

I just thought it was funny when they said they need time to relax. I would be nice if all couples could take many weeks off to relax but the rest of us have to work etc

cuparfull · 13/11/2019 18:31

If they get paid from the public purse, then perform and do their duty.
The older Royals are getting on a bit and this pair have a lifetime ahead of them. Show a bit of kindness and generosity both!
If they don't like it, bugger off abroad but don't expect us to pay for the Royal protection officers. Simple as! Nothing to do with the colour of your skin!

Justmuddlingalong · 13/11/2019 18:31

True or not though, why is it news at all?

Wineanddine23 · 13/11/2019 18:32

It is also odd that people say it is racist to have a go about some of her odd decisions. Surely everyone gets grief from time to time. Kate Middleton did a few years ago was that racist?

Mummyshark2019 · 13/11/2019 18:33

The best thing they could do right now is get away and go to the states for Christmas. They need a break away from their current surroundings. They both looked really unhappy in that documentary and need to focus on themselves.

CustardySergeant · 13/11/2019 18:33

"MM definitely started one of the thousand "AIBU not to want to spend xmas at the MIL's this year" threads"

She hasn't got a MIL.

Brefugee · 13/11/2019 18:35

PP mentioned watching the Queen's speech with Her Maj - that would be so cool! and they could do the Queen's speech drinking game and Her Maj would win!

Leflic · 13/11/2019 18:35

I don’t care either way.

However...it’s the Queen. If you’ve you marry into an institution that’s ahout deference, rank and position, you’d better expect to toe the line really.
I’m not sure the Queen will push them into coming. Personally I would love to hear they had quiet family day with her mum with Harry cooking Christmas dinner. They would go up in my estimation if they did.

LaurieMarlow · 13/11/2019 18:35

It is also odd that people say it is racist to have a go about some of her odd decisions.

Given that this ‘odd decision’ is exactly the same as the one Kate made a few years ago, which no one complained about, you’d have to wonder what’s different, wouldn’t you?

Sinittasdancers · 13/11/2019 18:36
  1. I very much doubt the tabloids have any idea where they're spending Christmas

2. They seem to be comparing them to 'ordinary' families who might have petty gripes with each other about Doreen doesn't get on with her MIL because they had an argument about how to cook the turkey and now she won't let Trevor see his family. They are not by any stretch of the imagination normal or 'like us'. Given they live at Windsor where the queen mostly lives I would guess they see each other a fair bit. In any case I don't think the queen gives the slightest fuck.
3. Who spends Christmas every year with their grandmother in law when they are their mother's only child and their mother lives alone? (I don't actually know if Doria Ragland lives alone)
CaptainCautious · 13/11/2019 18:36

It’s her child’s first Christmas. I imagine she would rather spend that with her own family in a more comfortable environment. Kate and William have spent Christmas with the middletons and there wasn’t as much uproar

Ravenesque · 13/11/2019 18:37

They could go and live a life outside of the Royal family and I expect at some point they may well do just that, but even if they do they'll still be "famous" and in the media and then MM will be the Wallis Simpson de nos jours.

Justmuddlingalong · 13/11/2019 18:39

MM might have got pissed off with it last year. I bet the Queen pulled rank and snaffled all the purple quality street.

BertrandRussell · 13/11/2019 18:40

“It is also odd that people say it is racist to have a go about some of her odd decisions”

What odd decisions?

The80sweregreat · 13/11/2019 18:40

I bet the Queen has her very own Quality street tin made for her !
