Sorry for the Meghan Markle thread and DM link, but I have found this really amusing today.

Story out today saying Harry and Meghan apparently aren't spending Xmas with the Queen this year. Lots of comments below blaming Meghan, saying she's isolating Harry from his family, saying the Queen must be really upset. Everyone at work was chatting about it today saying similar.

Am I missing something? I mean we don't even know if it's true. But even if it is, aren't they entitled to spend Xmas as they please? She has her own mother she may want to see.

Ok I get that it's the Queen and it's the usual tradition but is it really a big deal?

Plenty of newspapers are reporting this so I don't know why people are just slagging off the Daily Mail

Unfortunately the way the media works these days is that one outlet will say "a source" told them xyz (in this case it was the Sun who first reported it) and other outlets take it as fact instead of bothering to find out if it's true. Lazy journalism!

Don't read the HateMail! Absolute rubbish. Not a big deal if they are going to America to spend Christmas with Meghan's mother, I doubt the Queen would be upset at all. It's normal to alternate between families at Christmas - but this might be a rumour.

I honestly do not know what the Mail has against Meghan, she hasn't put a foot wrong from what I can see and I honestly wish the Mail would die.

My friend is a royalist and she isn't keen on Meghan as she thinks that marrying into such a traditionalist family would be hard for someone whose own childhood wasn't as traditional ( if that makes any sense) such as Kate's was ( for example)
However, the Queen's own children have divorced and re married and there have been scandals and all sorts! They are all far from perfect themselves.
It's just the tradition the Queen has managed to uphold and done it so well that we have helped to keep all this going. She is very clever really and the linchpin that holds it together.
I think it could fall apart when she dies but that's years off yet.

Yes but she hadn't just given a rather self indulgent interview being all woe is me. It just adds fuel to the fire that there is a rift and surely it'd make more sense to just do Sandringham. Maybe theyre going to Elton's.

I remember comment at the time about William and Kate not going.
I think as it is a private event it is entirely up to them what they do. I imagine they aren’t going as there is conflict between Harry and William ? Probably better for one couple to drop out than icy glares over the table .

Well yes, because there often is a reason, which is inconvenient for people like yourself who have an agenda.

They've had a rough few months, as evidenced by their African documentary which was about them rather than the causes they were supposed to be highlighting.

Why not spend time at Christmas with the family that Harry himself said was 'like the family she'd never had' (or similar).

To be fair , when Harry said about this being her ' new family' they were getting engaged and it was all new and jolly. A few years on and things have altered ( if the rumours are true).
Harry and Kate seem to get on better than any of the others! Who really knows the truth though? Maybe one day a book will come out and we will find out then! In the meantime a lot is speculation I think.

Oh saw this on Facebook and good lord the comments were unbelievable... she was a spoilt brat, taking him away from his family, the queen won't have many Christmases left etc etc.

I've never really had an opinion on her, I don't really like or dislike her but Christ the stick the poor woman is getting recently is totally unnecessary and vile.

It's to do with protocol. The Daily Heil et al are very good at missing out pertinent points like that, aka dog-whistling. The only people that fall for their nonsense are those that actively choose to.
