Please tell me I'm not sick enough for A&E again

I just have norovirus or something but it has been going on for 5 days now with no signs of abating. I'm sleeping most of the time, when not vomiting or having diarrhoea. I've slept approx. 20 hours out of the past 24 and I'm still exhausted. Just sitting up is an effort. No pain apart from diarrhoea cramps and burning in my stomach when I drink anything.

Anything I've eaten in the past 3 days has come straight back up.

Minorityreports · 25/10/2019 17:39

I'm also achy all over. Don't feel like I've a fever.

This is what 111 is for, not Mumsnet.

Give them a call and see what they suggest.

Mummy1224 · 25/10/2019 17:41

If it’s vomiting and diarrhoea then I probably wouldn’t go straight to A&E, as it might be very contagious.....I’d recommend calling 111 and getting their advice.
Good luck!

Jimmers · 25/10/2019 17:42

Can you get a telephone appt with your GP? Or advice from NHS direct?

Ifeelreallybad · 25/10/2019 17:42

I'd be concerned about dehydration after that amount of time, are you holding fluids down? I'm not a doctor or anything but maybe call 111 and see what they advise? Hope you feel better soon

AtrociousCircumstance · 25/10/2019 17:42

FIVE days of this?! Call 111.

Sounds horrific. Get well soon Flowers

Minorityreports · 25/10/2019 17:42

Should have added that I've called 111 and a clinician will call me back in an hour.

Myusername101 · 25/10/2019 17:43

111 or Out of hours is much more sensible than A&E. If you don't have a fever and aren't dehydrated there isn't much A&E can do anyway. Mumsnet can't tell how I'll you are.

Redglitter · 25/10/2019 17:43

I certainly wouldnt go to A&E. I'd try for a GP appt or phone 111 for advice

LemonPrism · 25/10/2019 17:43

I don't think I've ever gone to A&E for sickness/flu. Call 111 or have a doctor come round

Passthecherrycoke · 25/10/2019 17:43

Don’t go to A&E with Nuro until you’ve been told to by 111!

Bloody miserable though poor you

nearlyfinished1moreyear · 25/10/2019 17:44

I have had norovirus and unfortunately this is normal. Have you got re-hydration packets. Don't gulp your water down just sip. I know everything that goes n comes straight back out! Take care hope your better soon

Passthecherrycoke · 25/10/2019 17:46

I do have to agree that I’ve been ill with it for 5/6 days before and sometimes been unable to eat properly for 2 weeks

AlunWynsKnee · 25/10/2019 17:47

Hopefully OOH will see you tonight. There's rugby to be watching tomorrow so get well soon!

Likethebattle · 25/10/2019 17:48

5 days is a bit too long. You’ll probably be offered out of hours or if you are too sick they will do a home visit. Home visits though are over stretched so it’s a long list and a really loooooong wait.

MrsMozartMkII · 25/10/2019 17:50

That doesn't sound very pleasant at all m'duck.

I hope the call back points you in the right direction and you're sorted soonest!

Minorityreports · 25/10/2019 17:57

Ok, called me back recommended diaorlyte? Problem is I can't get to a pharmacy lol.

OP posts:
AloeVeraLynn · 25/10/2019 18:01

I think you can make your own rehydration type drink with a bit of salt, sugar and water. It might taste a bit rank though.

MedSchoolRat · 25/10/2019 18:03

campy or salmonella I suspect.
Several other nasties you can't rule out.
Norovirus is normally gone within 48 hours. It's one of it's distinct features, suddenly ill, suddenly well.

Lemonysherbet · 25/10/2019 18:04

Flat full fat coca cola does the trick too

Bunnyfuller · 25/10/2019 18:05

So call a friend.

Niro is yuk but not A and E.

I’ve generally found if anyone is ill enough for Accident (gaping wounds, breaks etc) and Emergency (serious illness that is life threatening or will become so without immediate treatment) we don’t have time to go and ask on Mumsnet.

HTH

Minorityreports · 25/10/2019 18:05

Can get to the shop across the road. Will get coke.

rehydrate.org/

Apple juice is also good if you have it.

Minorityreports · 25/10/2019 18:07

Honey - the last place I want to go is to A&E. Believe me on that one.
