Please tell me I'm not sick enough for A&E again

I just have norovirus or something but it has been going on for 5 days now with no signs of abating. I'm sleeping most of the time, when not vomiting or having diarrhoea. I've slept approx. 20 hours out of the past 24 and I'm still exhausted. Just sitting up is an effort. No pain apart from diarrhoea cramps and burning in my stomach when I drink anything.

Please don’t go to a and e with D and V unless you are sent there or the A and E team are aware you are
Coming and have somewhere for you to wait away from people.

I hope you feel better soon.

Todaythiscouldbe · 25/10/2019 20:58

So something has changed then?

OctoberLovers · 25/10/2019 20:58

Its up to you.

But i would go.

I waited for 111 for hours actually when i had a sickness bug. Partner spoke to two different drs, and a nurse, "someone will call you back" , "Call if anything changes"

Well an hour later, i just wanted to sleep, but partner put me in the car, and when i got to the hospital, they said if i had gone to sleep, i wouldnt of woke up..
I was severely dehydrated and my kidneys were packing up

Todaythiscouldbe · 25/10/2019 21:00

If you go to a&e please call ahead. You would need to be kept away from other people until they know what they are dealing with

Hoooo · 25/10/2019 21:03

Noidea what you were admitted for but do 111 know you were recevtly an in patient?
Could this be a hopital acquired infection?
I think you should call 111 back.

shoebedobedobedobedoo · 25/10/2019 21:09

If you go to a&e please call ahead

Please don’t. Really. A&E dr here.

  1. You probably won’t get through
  2. You’ll stand in a queue to register just like everyone else and unless you look like you are dying, are having a heart attack or have come back from a country with active Ebola you’ll sit in the triage queue like everybody else.

Some people have very odd ideas about how A&E works.

OctoberLovers · 25/10/2019 21:10

Does 111 know you was in hospital?

Know all your underlying conditions?

Know that you cant keep anything down?

Even if they do, i would still go in to be honest.

OctoberLovers · 25/10/2019 21:12

I was in a&e last week.

I was sitting in the waiting room for about 5 mins and then got moved, i had been sick once but my heart rate was 140.

They masked me straight away

Hoooo · 25/10/2019 21:14

Whats your pulse and resp rate?

shoebedobedobedobedoo · 25/10/2019 21:15

october sounds entirely appropriate. calling ahead wouldn’t have made it faster.

OctoberLovers · 25/10/2019 21:16

When my kidneys were failing, my pulse, resp, temp and blood pressure were all fine

Todaythiscouldbe · 25/10/2019 21:17

@shoebedobedobedobedoo
Yes, people who have a partner currently working at a&e. I'm very aware how it works.
You would always get through to someone at our hospital, probably switchboard.

bumblingbovine49 · 25/10/2019 21:23

The headache is probably a sign of dehydration. You need to make sure you stay awake.foe a while sipping small amounts of sugared drink . Don't go back to sleep for .hours until you have kept down some liquids.

QuestionableMouse · 25/10/2019 21:27

Honestly op, it sounds like you need to see a doctor.

It could be an infection you've picked up in hospital. It could be just a bug but it sounds like you're really struggling physically and need help.

Mumsnet are weird about hospital and A&E but if I was you I'd be calling an ambulance. They can check you out and decide where's best for you.

Minorityreports · 25/10/2019 21:30

My bp is always low, my pulse is always tachy. I would say my resp rate is possibly a little fast (but I've just vomited again). Haven't taken temp. Will do if I can find the thermometer.

Why would you go to A and E for d and v? I had four weeks of it and the GP was not particularly bothered.

some people get severely hydrated and it can become life threatening. My friend was admitted for 4 days and put on IV drips as she could not keep fluids down orally. some people do need impatient treatment for the noro virus even though most don't. is it that hard to understand?? Confused

Passthecherrycoke · 25/10/2019 21:31

@shoebedobedobedobedoo I meant via 111. Because you can’t just turn up at a hospital with noro and infect the whole waiting room. Not because I expect some kind of special treatment Wink

OP people get hysterical on Mumsnet. Nothing has changed since you phoned 111 and they told you it was nothing to worry about. They advised dirolyte for goodness sake

I assume you told them about your underlying condition- something you won’t mention here and that’s fair enough- but I can’t help thinking you’re stirring the drama a little. Nothing has changed since you last spoke to them

That's unkind.

The op has had no food and limited liquids for four days. She has other complicating factors and is loosing control of her bodily functions. No one has officially diagnosed noro and it sounds atypical of the usual symptoms.

It could be an infection that needs antibiotics and iv fluids.

Better safe than sorry imo.

Minorityreports · 25/10/2019 21:38

cherrycoke - Fuck off if you're suggesting I'm a troll.

QuestionableMouse · 25/10/2019 21:38

You also totally missed or ignored the part where I said the paramedics can check her out and advise on the best course of action.

shoebedobedobedobedoo · 25/10/2019 21:40

You would always get through to someone at our hospital, probably switchboard

I stand by my previous comment -some people have a very strange idea how A&E works.

What on earth do you think switchboard are going to do with the information???? They certainly won’t be passing it on to A&E.

Minorityreports · 25/10/2019 21:40

Not sure what an ambulance could do, but me shitting in a taxi might not go down well.

OP posts:
Passthecherrycoke · 25/10/2019 21:41

Paramedics don’t come out to do that.

I don’t think you’re a troll, I think you’re being very secretive about your underlying condition. Which is your right, but I presume you told 111, the same 111 who said you were fine.

Passthecherrycoke · 25/10/2019 21:43

Not the switchboard, 111. Because, go be fair, 111 will tell her not to go to A&E (as they did, but I posted before that) but also because if they have reason to believe it’s something dangerous but highly contagious they Can advise the best place for you to go and phone ahead if necessary
