I just have norovirus or something but it has been going on for 5 days now with no signs of abating. I'm sleeping most of the time, when not vomiting or having diarrhoea. I've slept approx. 20 hours out of the past 24 and I'm still exhausted. Just sitting up is an effort. No pain apart from diarrhoea cramps and burning in my stomach when I drink anything.

Yes, you can make your own:

Six (6) level teaspoons of Sugar.
Half (1/2) level teaspoon of Salt.
One Litre of clean drinking or boiled water and then cooled - 5 cupfuls (each cup about 200 ml.

I think you can add cordial to make it more palatable.

frumpety · 25/10/2019 18:12

Do you have any local friends or neighbours who could shove some dioralyte through the letterbox for you ? Or have you any crisps ? give them a good lick if you cant stomach eating them and avoid hot or cold drinks , try body temp warm instead and avoid dairy.

Minorityreports · 25/10/2019 18:16

Haven't tried eating since yesterday
Would you believe I don't actually have sugar in the house?

OP posts:
Minorityreports · 25/10/2019 18:16

No, no local friends or family.

OP posts:
Minorityreports · 25/10/2019 18:20

The woman/clinician seemed to think that I had friends/family and above all things, thin soup - who tf has thin soup and what is it?
Anyway, I've perked up I think. Live another day lol!

Once I don't have to go to A&E I'm good.

IWillLockYouIn · 25/10/2019 18:25

Thin soup is broth. Like chicken noodle soup.

MrsMaiselsMuff · 25/10/2019 18:26

How would you have got to A&E? Use that transport to get to a chemist.

Minorityreports · 25/10/2019 18:29

That's the thing, I can't afford diaroalyte let alone a taxi costing me 20 quid.

MillicentMartha · 25/10/2019 18:30

Full fat coke, preferably flat, with a bit of salt in. Or lemonade, not diet.

Passthecherrycoke · 25/10/2019 18:31

You don’t need diaroalyte. It’s just a helpful suggestion and tbh code for go away it’s not serious. If you can’t get it don’t worry about it

MorrisZapp · 25/10/2019 18:34

How do people know when they have noro virus?

Minorityreports · 25/10/2019 18:34

Cherry coke that's exactly what I took it to mean too lol.

Do ask in the shop for dirolyte or similar they often have them behind the counter

MereDintofPandiculation · 25/10/2019 18:36

Would you believe I don't actually have sugar in the house? Honey? Jam? Marmalade? Cordial/squash? Ideally something sweet (for energy) with a dash of salt. Failing that, water with a dash of salt.

Thin soup = any soup that isn't "Cream of..." or isn't a thick soup like lentil or potato. It's all about getting liquid into you without so much food content as to make you vomit.

Passthecherrycoke · 25/10/2019 18:37

Noro has specific symptoms Morris, it’s a clever little virus. The main one for me is it stores up your food (stops digestion) for hours before it hits, so the first puke or poo can be absolutely explosive and spread itself as far as possible. Then you suddenly violently vomit yesterday’s lunch or something.

RB68 · 25/10/2019 18:37

What you are after is calories, salts and water it doesn't have to be sugar - can be honey or golden syrup etc but something with a few calories in to give you a boost of energy to assist recovery - salts and water to replace lost fluids again to improve you to be well enough to start eating.

MereDintofPandiculation · 25/10/2019 18:38

How do people know when they have noro virus? It wouldn't make any difference - treatment is the same, stay hydrated and wait for it to go away.

BarbedBloom · 25/10/2019 18:39

I had this and did end up in hospital as I was severely dehydrated. I would give 111 a call and just drink as much as you can. I found fizzy stuff helped and I drank mint tea to help with the cramps - I have about thirty different kinds of mint, but not advising this medically as am just a bit of a green witch, not a doctor.

I hope you feel better soon Flowers

Minorityreports · 25/10/2019 18:40

I'm glad I don't have to hang out for 8 hours in A&E.
I'll get some coke. I haven't vomited in about an hour, so I think I may have taken a turn for the up!

OP posts:
BarbedBloom · 25/10/2019 18:40

Missed a bit out. Give 111 a call if it persists and you can't keep anything at all down

Windygate · 25/10/2019 18:43

Have you got any Bovril or even OXO cubes? If your not a veggie add a teaspoon of Bovril or a beef Oxo cube to a mug of boiled water and sip. If you could manage half a slice of toast that would be good. Hope you soon feel better.

SouthWestmom · 25/10/2019 18:48

Why would you go to A and E for d and v? I had four weeks of it and the GP was not particularly bothered. Lost loads of weight and staggered around a bit until it passed.

Minorityreports · 25/10/2019 18:49

Stomach doesn't appear to like any food going in, so I'm avoiding food. Have a whopping fucking headache though. Can't keep paracetamol down either, so I'll just soldier on as they say!
Have to say, I have perked up in the past hour. Think it was the threat of having to go to A&E lol.

OP posts:
Minorityreports · 25/10/2019 18:51

Noeuf because I have underlying conditions and if I pass out, I'll die alone and be found when the smell overwhelms the neighbours!
