To think this unacceptable in a cafe

DD and I are out having lunch in a nice cafe. Beautifully spacious with great facilities for baby, there are often mums with kids here.

We were just eating, I look up and there are baby twins, laid out on the table, one by mum and the other I assume to be grandma - changing their nappies.

Gross. As I mentioned there are good facilities, easily accessible...and it's not as if the mother was having a nightmare - babies were being quiet, not fussy and she also had grandma to help.

A worker here had a word with them, but seemed to just be laughing how cute they are...

AIBU? I'd personally never do this. I'm not a clean freak by any stretch but my god.

I agree - gross when then are facilities available. You wonder what they do at home.

ItsJustASimpleLine · 24/10/2019 13:07

That's really bad. If the facilities are bad or unavailable and it really needed done then at least do it on your knee not on a table have to eat off!

littlepaddypaws · 24/10/2019 13:11

the worker possibly didn't like to say anything to avoid a rumpus as they'd already started the change, but if i was in charge i would have told them to leave straight afterwards, then let skanky mum /grandmum do their sad faces on sm.Smile

QueenAnneBoleyn · 24/10/2019 13:12

That’s gross 🤢

AryaStarkWolf · 24/10/2019 13:14

ew that's grim

GeneHuntLover · 24/10/2019 13:14

That's absolutely disgusting, can't believe the staff allowed that

Sparklingbrook · 24/10/2019 13:15

Bleurgh, there's just no need.

I witnessed a baby being changed on the table at the start of a wedding reception. What is wrong with people?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 24/10/2019 13:15

Oh dear that’s not good. Did the staff not say anything. If Environmental Health walked in on that they’d have a fit

whitebowls · 24/10/2019 13:17

We had exactly the same at a family meal at a restaurant on Christmas Day. Grim. Staff told them but the parents answer was they are only small so it doesn't matter Hmm
Facilities within a few steps and about 10 people at their table.
Why???

GeorgianaDovesHouse · 24/10/2019 13:18

Awful behaviour.

BlueCornsihPixie · 24/10/2019 13:20

That's disgusting

On a cafe table as well where someone's gonna eat in a minute!

SerenDippitty · 24/10/2019 13:22

Disgusting 🤮

DaveMyHat · 24/10/2019 13:28

In TK Maxx one day, I saw a baby's nappy being changed on one of those seats for people to use when trying on shoes. I thought it was really gross and completely unnecessary. There are no toilets in the shop itself but there is a shopping centre less than 5 minutes walk away as well as a large supermarket, both of which have baby change rooms. My DD was a baby at the time and I wouldn't have done that, especially as there were suitable facilities available such a short distance away.

In a café is far worse though!

MinesaPinot · 24/10/2019 13:34

That is vile, and if I'd seen it I wouldn't be using that cafe again (and I'd be telling the staff why).

Similarly DH and I were shopping in Next Home last year, and a family came in, changed their baby on one of the sofas in the room set and then just walked out. What is it with some people?

TrueFriendsStabYouInTheFront · 24/10/2019 13:35

In this or any PP's scenarios, were changing mats used?

Tbh I wouldn't be bothered if a mat was used 🤷‍♀️ I can't really see how the back of a changing mat would have anymore bacteria on, than anything else that could end up on a table such as a handbag or whatever. If no mat, then yes that's obviously gross though

theultimatepushyparent · 24/10/2019 13:36

Trip Advisor review of the cafe, to share your experience?

Bluerussian · 24/10/2019 13:38

That was very bad, they should have known better than to do that.

mindutopia · 24/10/2019 13:42

That's really gross. I saw a family with a baby in a cafe the other day. I didn't see how or where they changed said baby, but they'd just chucked the nappy on the floor, not in a nappy bag or even fastened closed, like splayed open and soggy, just next to the table. Presumably they changed baby in the perfectly adequately toilet with changing table, which was literally 4 feet from where they were sitting. But then either didn't put the nappy in the actual bin in the toilet or even in a nappy bag to dispose of in another bin outside (I usually stick it in my bag tied off if this happens). Nope, just dropped on the floor next to where they were eating.

Mummyoflittledragon · 24/10/2019 13:43

Disgusting and no longer legally allowed. As in they could get the cafe owner in a lot of trouble.

SpringFan · 24/10/2019 13:43

Its gross.
I would be tempted to contact the cafe , speak to management. If unhappy with response I would leave a review on TA and google. The staff should not have condoned it, which you implied they did.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 24/10/2019 13:45

It seems some people quite literally shit where they eat Confused

Flamingnorahs · 24/10/2019 13:45

Good grief, that is appalling! I would complain to cafe. Even if a mat was used there's still a high chance of dirt going onto table with dropped wipes, baby projectile peeing/pooing etc. I assume they didnt wash hands afterwards either. If they couldn't be bothered to use changing facilities I doubt very much that would be arsed going to washrooms after.

goodgirlinchachaheels · 24/10/2019 13:49

Absolutely fucking gross. People are disgusting.

saraclara · 24/10/2019 13:50

I would definitely bring it up with the management of the cafe.

Topseyt · 24/10/2019 13:53

I agree that it is disgraceful behaviour. Especially as there were good and easily accessible facilities there.

I've no idea why some people think it acceptable to do this. Presumably they wouldn't take a shit at the table, so why do they think it is apparently fine to change dirty nappies there?

Other people are eating, and others will have to use that table after them too!
