To think this unacceptable in a cafe

DD and I are out having lunch in a nice cafe. Beautifully spacious with great facilities for baby, there are often mums with kids here.

We were just eating, I look up and there are baby twins, laid out on the table, one by mum and the other I assume to be grandma - changing their nappies.

Gross. As I mentioned there are good facilities, easily accessible...and it's not as if the mother was having a nightmare - babies were being quiet, not fussy and she also had grandma to help.

A worker here had a word with them, but seemed to just be laughing how cute they are...

AIBU? I'd personally never do this. I'm not a clean freak by any stretch but my god.

If a changing room wasn’t available nearby couldn’t they have used the floor (perhaps moving to a corner out of the way)?

For a PP urine is sterile while it’s in the bladder, once it’s left the body it is not. If it is just urine then it’s not that urgent to change the nappy. If it’s shit then it is even more revolting, the smell in a cafe as much as the contamination risk. Worse still in this case there were very adequate facilities and 2 adults who could take a baby each to change them. Even if there had been no facilities I would have changed each baby in the pram outside rather than do it on the table.

I’m a nurse and feel bad for the other patients in a bay trying to eat when another patient needs a bedpan or soils the bed and needs changing. I’m a bit immune to the smell but it would put me off my meal.

Exactly!

And even more grim if the babies had had vaccines recently as some shed.

@Userzzzzz Shed what?

@ToodlesnOOdleSAR how did the manager take it when you went back?

Ugh utterly utterly vile!

I’ve changed many a nappy in all sorts of random places but I’ve always done my best to keep it away from people. Usually bung child into pram and wheel it way away into a corner/secluded spot or outside if it’s a good establishment and do it (if there’s no changing facilities of course). I keep a big bottle of hand sanitiser in my bag for said occasions (I know it’s not as good as a proper wash but it’s better than nowt and I’m not going about touching door handles etc with germy hands).

I feel for the poor staff. I hope they didn’t pay cash cause there’s no way I’d want to handle it after seeing that.

*food not good. I’m not a snob Grin

ffswhatnext · 26/10/2019 16:45

How would they like it if someone came and did a shit near them when they were eating?

Userzzzzz · 26/10/2019 17:19

Dongdingdong They tell you to be careful with nappies after the Rotavirus vaccines.

Lazy parenting if there are facilities... End off!
