I’m so fed up with all this vegan wankery

To all you actual vegans, amazing, I wish you a long and happy life.

I am just so fed up with veganism taking over the world, when I have yet to come across an actual one. *edited to say that some places in the world don’t have a choice

Restaurants falling over themselves with vegan menus offering fake meat and plastic cheese.

Veganuary - people just going to the supermarket and buying fake meat, rather than actually trying to eat differently.

People eating ‘vegan food’. Just eat an apple, or a carrot with houmous or any other naturally occurring food that an animal hasn’t produced. It’s not hard.

And I can’t even begin with all the plant based twattery. Many people have been quietly eating less or no meat, fish, eggs & dairy for many years and have had no need to pontificate about it.

I know I am probably being unreasonable but I just need to say it.

MrsBethel, what would you expect the non-strict but non-suffering-contributors stance on road-kill to be?

That muntjak is dead anyway, too suddenly for it to have known about it: does eating it contribute to animal suffering? How about the dozens of pheasants that will be hit by cars in the next few weeks and be lying beside the roads round here?

Actually if they are anything like the vegans and vegetarians I know, their stomachs will be upset by digesting meat because of not being accustomed to it, so they wouldn't want to eat it for purely practical reasons; but would there be an ethical objection?

Endspeciesism · 22/10/2019 12:19

It’s funny how bothered you are by vegans. Sorry that your personal guilt over being a baby eater is causing you to have an issue with those who have a moral compass. It must be hard to carry on with your ignorance and cruelty while others try to protect innocent baby animals.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 22/10/2019 12:42

Congratulations. You have managed to express exactly the "reasoning" which leads me to want a sticker for the back of my car which reads CLUB THE BABY SEALS FOR JESUS just because I cannot abide the combination of twee and accusation some people feel obliged to throw into every conversation.

Very few people eat "baby animals"; it is not economic to send stock for slaughter until it is of a good market weight, which is not when it is a baby.

Alwaysgrey · 22/10/2019 12:44

As a parent to two coeliacs it annoys me that for people who chose to eat a certain way are catered for much more easily than those with an actual medical condition.

Babies yes.

@mainecoonmum What the health is such a flimsy propaganda piece, I can't believe you are forcing your children to eat a diet they don't want, on the basis of watching that.

thorswife · 22/10/2019 19:18

@MaxNormal what the health I'm sure was just a starting point which it was for me, since then "how not to die" book hands down sorts out any quibbles about what we should be eating for health. My kids have been vegan since birth. 8years and 6years. You couldn't pick them out from their friends in terms of health and intelligence, they get everything they need and a hell of a lot more.

I don’t get meat eaters getting ‘offended’ by vegan options on menus.

isitpossibleto · 30/10/2019 05:41

Capitalism - that all this shit is about. The almighty dollar

malificent7 · 30/10/2019 07:06

Baby eater ffs????? Look...i used to be a vegan and i love vegan doid but i had ro stop as i became fanatical .
Before the advent of intensive farming we probably would hunt and eat baby animals as they are easier to catch...not so much meat though. I dont think eating animals is morally wrong per say...the way they are farmed is though.
We are hunters at heart....it is in our nature but we eat far roo much meat. i am glad we have vegan oprions to help the planet.

malificent7 · 30/10/2019 07:06

Food even

malificent7 · 30/10/2019 07:21

My vegan friend told me it was wrong to eat mear under any circumstances...i duly told her that if i was utterly starving i would happily hunt for meat to survive if there was little other food.

malificent7 · 30/10/2019 07:21

Meat

Eckhart · 30/10/2019 07:23

Does anybody think that the farming methods we use to obtain meat/dairy are not cruel?

JavaQ · 30/10/2019 07:27

Virtue signalling is repellant.

AnuvvaMuvva · 30/10/2019 07:57

How do you know if someone is a vegan? Oh, they'll tell you. 😆

I agree, OP. Veganism is great, but not the people jumping on the bandwagon and filling Instagram with photos of avocados. I'm not vegan, but I don't make sure everyone around me knows it. So why do they?

Plus they always look so ill.

dentydown · 30/10/2019 08:06

I do think fake meat is making it a bit lazy, I love the greggs sausage roll but I would love to see more chickpea and sweet potato stews, bean burgers and the colourful foods in restaurants rather than beyond burger and chips. Plus you get people deliberately putting cow milk in stuff, you order soy, you get cow, I get issues with my stomach.

Underdone · 30/10/2019 12:05

Not as repellent as animal abuse.

And if you eat sentient animals you are guilty of the most profound cruelty. No two-ways about it.

stuffedpeppers · 30/10/2019 12:14

As a Type 1 diabetic since not long after birth - I would far rather go out and be able to eat a meal and that includes mains and started which has not had a liberal dose of sugar added into it - think pasta sauces etc.

I would also like all fecking organic vegan soft drinks to be removed from existence because they are loaded with sugar and I am now back circa the 1980s to drink water as my soft drink alternative. No fruit juice is not sugar free and 150 mls of fruit juice is the equivalent to me eating a sandwich - which fills me up more.

All bloody diet drinks are gone if I want to drink chemicals then I can have the bloody choice.

Everything in moderation please.

i did not get a choice, mine was made for me. Would love a day to be "normal" like all vegans, vegetarians, pescatarians etc have.

Underdone · 30/10/2019 12:34

@stuffedpeppers Unfortunately it's difficult to be moderately abusive. The very nature of animal farming is cruel.

I'm sorry you find it difficult to eat out. Maybe as the vegan lifestyle grows there will be more options for Whole Food Plant Based eating (no sugar, oil, etc) which would be great for you I imagine.

FreeSpiritJen · 30/09/2019 20:52

YANBU at all.

Genuine vegans are fine, and you rarely hear from them.

But I will be glad when this whole 'veganism' obsession is over.

I give it 5 years and it will be in the past, and most people (who started it in the 2010s) will be vegetarians or meat eaters again.

It's very hard to keep it up for life.

This aged well 😂
