I suppose AIBU to put this here...but it IS the busiest area. I just thought...I'd see if there were any other MNrs in Oz who'd like a little chat thread together?

There’s been some rain around today. And wind. And dust! Still hearing some rain on tHe metal roof now, which is lovely, but I’ll be surprised if we will have had more than 5-10mm. Better than nothing I guess.

theoriginalmadambee · 25/10/2019 21:36

Hi, sneaking in, looking around Smile. Don't want to intrude.

I have a thread in chat and was directed to you.

My ddad was gifted a water colour painting from Australia in the 80'ies and now I have inherited it. Would love to know who the artist is, can anyone help, please.

No idea how to link, but posting pics.

This might help, Madambee:

Have you looked on the back of the painting?

prawnsword · 26/10/2019 05:20

Oh wow do you mind if I post a similar style oil painting found by the roadside recently ?

bluetongue · 26/10/2019 06:37

Does anyone else get pissed off with the petty rules everywhere in Australia?

I tried a little minor civil disobedience today and took my dog into Bunnings with no muzzle and not in a trolley. People I know have told me they’d managed to do it and no-one cared but it only took about 30 seconds before a Bunnings worker called out to me that I needed to put my dog in a trolley. He’s a whippet, not a pit bull. I begrudgingly lifted him into the trolley and he didn’t look amused.

I’d make a lousy criminal Grin

theoriginalmadambee · 26/10/2019 09:27

Thank you @echt i will try that, had some great help on my thread.

So sorry to have offended you @prawnsword, I was told your thread might be very helpful 🤷‍♀️.

Bowing out.

StartupRepair · 26/10/2019 23:33

@Madambee stay around. We could help you if you have any questions about particular areas your Dad might have visited.

theoriginalmadambee · 27/10/2019 10:33

@StartupRepair
Thank you, that's kind Smile.

Degustibusnonestdisputandem1 · 27/10/2019 10:36

@prawnsword was that really necessary? @Madambee definitely stick around, it looks like the artist was from Victoria 😊

ittakes2 · 27/10/2019 10:44

Perth too!

theoriginalmadambee · 27/10/2019 10:56

@Degustibusnonestdisputandem1, @ittakes2
That's sweet of you, haven't got very far in my search. But both my ddad and dh have spend a lot of time in Australia, so I know you are not all miserable Grin. (We definitely don't do snappy in Europe 🤣). Haven't visited myself.

Won't intrude further, but might be back, have a lovely day.

nmc99 · 27/10/2019 10:59

Hi, I'm moving to Adelaide (husband Adelaide born and bred) with my 10 year old and 8 year old next summer. Absolutely bricking it to be honest but DH has been here 14 years and we have both decided it's time to go back. Just wish I knew that the kids would settle, they are very upset at thought of leaving friends.

Degustibusnonestdisputandem1 · 27/10/2019 11:02

@Madambee https://johnborrack.com didn't someone on other thread identify him?

theoriginalmadambee · 27/10/2019 12:57

@Degustibusnonestdisputandem1
Yes thank you, he was identified very quickly.

StartupRepair · 27/10/2019 19:24

@nmc99 Adelaide is gorgeous. I grew up there and visit often. What are you most nervous about? Perhaps we can allay it...

nmc99 · 27/10/2019 19:44

Thank you - just settling the kids really, I'm sure we will be fine but they are really happy and settled at school here! It's prob just me being silly kids are usually faster to settle than the adults!

MaitlandGirl · 31/10/2019 07:35

Anyone else struggling with the heat? I should be used to this, we’ve been here 10 years next month but every spring the hot weather seems to arrive earlier and earlier. Last week, this week and next week we’re looking at average temps of 35C! It’s ridiculous.

I really don’t know how much longer I can cope with this. Winter this year was barely cold enough to need a thick cardi, never mind a coat and, being completely honest, the thought of another 45C+ summer makes me cry.

It’s either going to have to be a move to Tassie or back to Europe at this rate.

echt · 31/10/2019 10:34

I'm posting on a very sultry Melbourne evening, 27 degrees at 9.30.p.m. No breeze and the ceiling fans aren't cutting it. Despite having spent shitloads to have air-con put into my living room, I'm always holding out until bedtime, more willing to put it on to cool the bedroom.

I'm heading off to the rainforests for the Cup weekend, so cooler there.

StartupRepair · 31/10/2019 19:45

Good weekend to get out of town! DD has embarked on her year 12 exams so we're not doing much.

crabb · 02/11/2019 07:48

25mm of rain forecast for around here tomorrow. So exciting, hope it eventuates! Anyone else getting rain?

echt · 09/11/2019 03:59

It has been peeing down and very windy here in Melbourne, and rather cold, too. I'm so glad for my garden, especially the veggie patch, though the cold bit has stopped some growth in its tracks. Sad

I hope your DD's exams are going well, StartupRepair. I teach year 12, so have been agog to see the exams as they turn up.

StartupRepair · 09/11/2019 04:16

I think we spoke a couple of years ago Echt when I had a different username. DD is doing Lit on Monday, preparing Othello and Northanger Abbey.

echt · 09/11/2019 04:21

Ooh, I taught Othello this year. Top play.

bluetongue · 09/11/2019 06:40

MaitlandGirl I absolutely hate the heat. Moving to Europe or UK isn’t an option for me (only Australian passport) so New Zealand is my long term plan. Probably the South Island (I love mountain landscapes and snow).

Is anyone here impacted by the terrible fires? It must be absolutely terrifying to be trapped at your house with nowhere to go Sad

MaitlandGirl · 09/11/2019 08:11

Depending on what happens with Brexit we’re looking at France (I’m entitled to an Irish passport) but realistically it’ll be Tasmania. It’s closer and still cold :)

We’re not in the fire zones but FIL has gone with the SES to the Old Bar region to help with clearing trees to create fire breaks and all of MILs family is in the Taree, Tinonee, Forster region. DW is waiting on news of 1 uncle from Wallabi Point and another uncle and family in Tinonee. Everyone else has so far been located.
