I suppose AIBU to put this here...but it IS the busiest area. I just thought...I'd see if there were any other MNrs in Oz who'd like a little chat thread together?

Yes, despite the cold we are happy to get some more rain. DH has just cleared the gutters and I am eyeing the weeds and regretting that my hips are too sore to have a good go at them.

crabb · 19/10/2019 10:44

Lucky you to have rain! We’re not in the drought areas (just outside Canberra) but it’s pretty dry. Our dams are as low as they’ve ever been in 11 years.

BaruFisher · 19/10/2019 12:41

Hot here but got a great thunderstorm and rainfall yesterday which is great to see.

echt · 23/10/2019 08:19

The first steps to the warm weather. I put the ceiling fans on today when I got home. Caught between autumn wear and, er...nothing. When it comes to clothes I love the winter when nothing I wear to again Sad

echt · 23/10/2019 08:22

Jesus.

When it comes to clothes I love the winter when nothing I wear needs ironing. Now I'm back to to ironing again Sad

I don'y know what's sadder, correcting a post about ironing, or actually doing the ironing.

Oh my days! I've just joined mumsnet today to vent about something and have seen this thread! I'm just between Brisbane and the sunshine coast. Helllllo

Welcome on board, Hello.

The more Aussie MNers bump this thread, started by HennyPennyHorror, the better.

Having just got a parcel from AusPost, how many newly-Australian MNers were take aback, as I was, by the post boxes outside the house that anyone could steal from but never did?

Hellofromtheotherside2020 · 23/10/2019 08:54

I was taken aback that the power supply to most houses is located at the front of the property, so anyone can come along, open thag door and turn off your power! Ours is at the end of an almost 1km long driveway!!! Craziness! But no one ever does! Like if you have refillable gas to property too, could easily be taken, but never is!

Degustibusnonestdisputandem1 · 23/10/2019 09:17

31 here tomorrow, then back down to 16 or so.... which I'm not complaining about as we still need to sort out air con...

crabb · 23/10/2019 22:43

A visitor to our backyard yesterday. Never seen one before in 11 years - this one continued up the hill and bumped straight into our bedroom door! Don’t think eyesight is their strong point.

Oh that is really special.

Degustibusnonestdisputandem1 · 23/10/2019 23:30

Aww! I've seen a few on my travels in the past month...

Proseccoagain · 23/10/2019 23:35

No-one from Darwin? Now back in the UK, but rather enjoyed living there 30 years ago. Great fun!

Degustibusnonestdisputandem1 · 24/10/2019 01:49

Baby tiger snake out the back just now!

Hello am from Sydney living in Newcastle & tin roof team over here too. Upstairs bedroom as well, what a delight! My personal trick is to wet a towel & wring it dry then lay it over you To get to sleep

echt · 24/10/2019 09:47

Hello, prawnsword.

I have a tin roof and use this screen out noisy colleagues and as white noise to get to sleep:

echt · 24/10/2019 10:07

crabb, love the way echidnas bustle up the side of the road. As an aside, this makes me think of my last NDN who always called echidnas echindas. She's lovely.

TheSandgroper · 24/10/2019 10:19

Hellofromtheotherside2020 I am glad you said that. It explains why my Pommie husband has locked up our meter box with a little Perspex window cut into it. I still think he’s mad but at least I know where he is coming from.

Aus84 · 24/10/2019 10:41

But if you lock the meter box where do you put the spare house key?? 😋

TheSandgroper · 24/10/2019 11:08

We have it buried in the garden. But we did it so long ago I don’t know where it is anymore. I had to call dh home from work last year to let us in. We live the way he wants to so he can’t complain.

MaitlandGirl · 24/10/2019 11:25

I love the fact the electricity box is at the front - how else can I turn off the neighbours music at 3 in the morning. I’ve done it 9 times in the past year and the idiots are so drunk they don’t know it’s deliberate lol

Today was obscene with the weather, 36C and it’s going to be hotter tomorrow. I really think this his going to be the year that summer kills me.

That's genius, can't believe I've never thought of that...

SnowsInWater · 24/10/2019 12:35

Just saw your recommendation @PomPomtheGreat, thank you.

Cute echidna.

bluetongue · 24/10/2019 14:06

I have a metal roof but sadly no rain at the moment Sad

For some reason I thought my electricity box was at the back of my house and would always leave the garage door up when the meter was due to be read. Then after living at my place for about 18 months I forgot about the reading due but somehow the meter still got read. Went to check out the ‘electricity box’ out back and it was just an empty black plastic box on the wall and the real box was out the front of my house the whole time Blush

MaitlandGirl · 24/10/2019 22:52

It confuses me that the gas boiler is on the outside wall of the house (new build) and pisses me off that it’s not near the LPG tanks. So when the tank runs out I have to go out the front and down the side to change tanks then back into the house and out the back to restart the boiler. In reality it’s not exactly a trip up Everest but it annoys me and it’s odd.
