I suppose AIBU to put this here...but it IS the busiest area. I just thought...I'd see if there were any other MNrs in Oz who'd like a little chat thread together?

Hello all! Agree something needs doing re single person l households If this kind of thing is regular, sex is important but not a whole class of privilege above basic human interaction. We have I admit been more slack this round of distancing (Melb so lock down) not in terms of general distancing but in terms of strict rule following. Our children can attend childcare as we both have permits but are only going one day a week instead of 5 and our ad hoc babysitter is nannying 3 times a week and children going to my parents a few times too- very loose definitions of continuing arrangements but seems safer really! And all is within our 5k radius.

Oh heres trouble Grin Grin Your back on the dark side lol

Life as normal in SA, dd looking at school camp in October, footy has large crowds, i even found work in retail amidst the downturn, we may even have a house or 2 lined up to look at in Qld that dp will go check out as we found out border crossing isnt to hard from SA to QLD and back
Im so grateful im in SA and we avoided large lockdowns like Vic. How much longer do you melbournians have to go in the stage 4? I havent been following, too complicated

StartupRepair · 02/09/2020 02:29

On Melbourne and finding it really tough to be honest. I haven' t seen my mother (Adelaide) or my son (Canberra) since March. I am teary and flat much of the time. Snappy with DH and trying to support DD whose entire first year uni experience is her bedroom. Working hard and my colleagues don't really see how tough I'm finding it. Completely supportive of Dan Andrews and will never forgive the coalition and Murdoch press for undermining him.

StartupRepair · 02/09/2020 02:29

2 more weeks in stage 4 but nothing is set in stone.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 02/09/2020 03:27

Ah startup, that sounds so hard. Really feel for everybody in Melbs at the moment, it can't be easy! I'm in Perth where everything is pretty normal (for now) at least. My son also started uni this year, but has paused for a semester as his subject is pretty much impossible to do properly online (Engineering). He also didn't fancy a year in his bedroom as his first year experience. Hopefully he will be able to go back in Feb, but who the hell knows? In the meantime he's got a part time job in IGA.

I know a lot of people in WA were disappointed not to get the footy final, but I couldn't care less, in fact I'm glad. But I'm not a footy fan! Most people I talk to are in favour of keeping the border firmly shut, the Liberal Party aren't going to win too many votes here in the next election I reckon. And don't start me on that prick Palmer!

LosingItInLockdown · 02/09/2020 04:26

@StartupRepair I’m so sorry. That’s all really really tough. Your poor DD Sad. Shame for your son as well @alwayscrashinginthesamecar1.

I agree with you about Dan Andrews Startup. I’m pretty sick of people calling him Dictator Dan and criticising his handling of it. Ultimately he can’t control if people decide to break the rules, or if a security guard thinks it’s a good idea to sh*g someone in the quarantine hotel. That said, assuming the numbers keep going down as we get to a very low number, I think things need to start carefully opening up in a few weeks time. The effect on many businesses and people’s mental health is huge. I know I for one am really starting to struggle (home alone for long hours with 3 small children and have only seen 1 friend since March. Both our families and a friend had to cancel their plans to come and visit and almost certainly won’t be allowed in at Christmas). I’m really worried about what Sunday’s announcement will bring.

eaglejulesk · 02/09/2020 05:01

Sending a friendly wave to the Aussie MNetters from NZ. That's as close as I'll get to you for a while Smile

echt · 02/09/2020 05:18

So good to see so many Australian MNers checking in, and as AIBU is so busy, I'll keep poking it to keep it on Page 1. Smile

I live on my own and am a teacher who has WFH since March because of DET regs. It's knackering, though what I've learned about online teaching has been exponential. And yes, all my lessons are live!! It's not the best teaching or learning, but we do what we can do.

This wasn't about work though.

At the start of all this, the whole mental health issues predicted around lockdown was, for me, a bit seriously? Hmm Not for students I must say, just generally. Now I see it better: not climbing the walls here but the isolation, not talking to an adult in my home is very telling. On other levels I should STFU as I live in a lovely suburb and can get to the beach (thanks, Dan)

I'm gagging to see my DD, though, see a film in cinema, eat in a restaurant.

echt · 02/09/2020 05:20

Massive wave to you, eagljulesk and keep in touch. Hope all is well with you in NZ.

seayork2020 · 02/09/2020 05:27

hello @Squeekums I thought I reconised you name but couldn't place it at first!

Hi everyone else as well, it is weird 'watching' the UK go to sleep and we are all awake then the reverse when it is night for us

We are meant to be going to the UK mid next year but I doubt that will be possible anymore (not this is not a serious issue just mentioning it cause it is a UK board)

eaglejulesk · 02/09/2020 05:57

Hello @echt. Yes, all good here. Auckland has just come out of a partial lockdown, while the rest of us have had more freedom. Life is pretty much as normal, other than the borders being closed.

StartupRepair · 02/09/2020 06:00

It is weird losing the whole capacity to plan or look forward to anything. Makes me realise how much of our lives are future focused. Now all I look forward to is food!

Downunderduchess · 02/09/2020 06:10

I’m in Sydney. I had to go out today and I actually wondered what to wear, like I couldn’t remember what getting properly dressed was like. I even put a little makeup on. I was only gone an hour! I’m WFH and quite used to it now. It feels like the world has changed & this is how it’s going to be. I like Dan Andrews, from my perspective he’s doing a good job.

echt · 02/09/2020 09:51

Startuprepair, I feel for you. It's cack, isn't it?

You made me laugh, Downunderduchess. Because I teach live I always have the full Monty face so as not to frighten the horses. The etiquette is always live, no avatars, etc., though I find a scarf instantly covers a multitude of sins.

I've not met anyone outside for weeks so have retreated into the dog-walking trackie-dacks. Indeed this morning when queueing outside Aldi for the specials (plastic mini- greenhouse) I was actually wearing trainers!! Time was I would poke my eyes put rather than wear trainers when not actually exercising.:o

timeisnotaline · 02/09/2020 13:47

I sent my dh to aldi for some of the garden deals, not the green house though, the little seed starter box. I assume he bought it all and dumped in garage but haven’t interrogated him. Will prob find he bought something else instead.

How are we all today?

As a Melburnian, slowly emerging into lifted restrictions, I feel the urge to go to Bunnings and buy some plants. Or something. :o The continued, and quite rightly so, limits on at home meetings alter little for me. The one I'm waiting for is being able to go into the regions.

Hope everyone is thriving.

echt · 28/10/2020 00:05

Bumping to stay on P 1.
