I suppose AIBU to put this here...but it IS the busiest area. I just thought...I'd see if there were any other MNrs in Oz who'd like a little chat thread together?

@HennyPennyHorror I came over with my husband on a permanent residence visa (like Snows) and have since had a little boy who is nearly 3. We find it hard being without family support for things like last minute babysitting etc but I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. It's such a great place to raise a family :D

SJWM88 · 25/09/2019 05:58

Perth here :) seems to be a few of us!

MrsDrStrange · 25/09/2019 06:03

@HennyPennyHorror I absolutely agree, it’s just sheer laziness on our part I think. In a strange twist of fate our youngest daughter moved back to the UK 3 years ago and will be having our 3rd grandchild in February. I now know how my parents felt all those years ago!

MrsDrStrange · 25/09/2019 06:05

@OccamsRaiser - we’re Northside too - hello!

UsernameUnavaliable · 25/09/2019 06:05

Hello from S.A!

HennyPennyHorror · 25/09/2019 06:09

Catgee we didn't have any family support re babysitting really in the UK...now we're here in Oz, DH's mum is BIT better but she's busy and works.

It can be tough for sure. Ours are getting older now though so we can leave them for short time.

Hi. I’m in Perth too. Absolutely love it here.

SJWM88 · 25/09/2019 06:50

Any other Perth people find it really hard making Mum friends here... there just doesn't seem to be the parenting community here that there is many other places. Plus I'm a single parent and seem to get treated like I've got leprosy by lots of the school mums...

Wooliesandcoles · 25/09/2019 07:06

We’ve been very lucky and have a great group of friends. My kids settled well too. They are teenagers now so I’m not sure about babygroups.

MaitlandGirl · 25/09/2019 08:42

@HennyPennyHorror they’re my children, not my wife’s so citizenship by descent doesn’t apply.

@SnowsInWater I’ve got an Irish passport too, but my kids don’t.

Has everyone gone back for a visit since they left? I haven’t and I doubt I will but DD2 is headed back for a 7 week holiday on a Boxing Day.

ozcatlover · 25/09/2019 08:54

I am an Aussie as well, in SA. Aussie born but all my relatives are English.

Happy to chat.

TheSandgroper · 25/09/2019 09:00

Checking in from Melbourne. I've been here for 13 years, a citizen within 4 years, as the rules were about to change so we got a move on.

I came here from the UK in my 50s on my late DH's job and have a 20s DD (age, not era). When he died I was amazed how many assumed I'd be going back to the UK. Er, no. And not because we hated the UK, but this is our home now.

Zaphodsotherhead · 25/09/2019 10:09

Please forgive me for looking in - am in the UK, but my DD lives in Melbourne and all your chat makes me feel a little bit closer to her!

ispepsiokay · 25/09/2019 10:26

CC, NSW here 👋🏻

ispepsiokay · 25/09/2019 10:27

@DownUdderer we're practically neighbours

DownUdderer · 25/09/2019 10:37

I’m in Narara @ispepsiokay where are you? :)

FranKatzenjammer · 25/09/2019 10:54

I lived in Perth from 2006-2010 and still miss it hugely (back in UK now).

ispepsiokay · 25/09/2019 10:59

@DownUdderer Tuggerah

Hello Smile from Brisbane. Aus citizen here with South African husband. Emigrated from the UK last year and loving it.

mummyof2girls18 · 25/09/2019 11:16

Hello all, I am a born and bred Brisbane girl and absolutely love this forum even though it’s mainly UK orientated haha

StartupRepair · 25/09/2019 11:16

Hi I am in Melbourne. Australian and have also spent many formative years in UK and Europe.
Full of rage at Scomo currently.

wishiwasinthesun · 25/09/2019 11:20

Son lives in Shorehaven Perth, would love to retire there in 10 years but have to make do with visits (April 2020 the next one). Absolutely love Australia, wish I had been bold enough to emigrate when the kids were young.

bluetongue · 25/09/2019 11:21

Hello from Adelaide Smile

I’m a Mumsnet addict and general obsessive about all things British.

Anyone else dreading the upcoming Aussie summer? I’m really not designed for heat and never ending sunshine.

over40andpregnant · 25/09/2019 11:28

Sydney here for the past four years
