I suppose AIBU to put this here...but it IS the busiest area. I just thought...I'd see if there were any other MNrs in Oz who'd like a little chat thread together?

I also want to buy towels.
More importantly, I want me some KoKo black chocolate

Dd’s School (nsw) opens for 2 days a week from May 11th so did would go to school Monday and Thursday.

We aren’t keen on sending her to be honest.
I feel that the school is reopening because there funding has been threatened then they have be given a big cash grab.
She’s 6. Online schooling isn’t too bad.

ButterbingQueen · 04/05/2020 03:41

Thank you echt. We’re supposed to be leaving in September so I feel sad that we may have had the last of the good weather. Although great if it’s a little less grey than the UK! Also, who knows whether we will actually make it back to the UK with everything going on Hmm.

A happy Mother's Day to all Aussie MNers. 💐

Am Envy of all of you who have your children with you.

ButterbingQueen · 10/05/2020 03:37

I’m sorry @echt. It must be really hard Flowers.

AnotherBoredOne · 10/05/2020 07:03

Happy Mother's Day.
Mine pretty non eventful, shouldn't be disappointed but I am. One scribbled message from 12yo.
Would have been happy with a home made card and some effort :(
Three year old I can't blame him.
Partner having chemo so can't blame him either
13 yo who is not with us at moment did call so that was nice.
Just havin a moan :(

ButterbingQueen · 10/05/2020 12:23

I’m sorry @AnotherBoredOne, that’s a bit rubbish. I’ve had mother’s days —and birthdays— where people have forgotten and not got me a card or anything. I hope you’re not feeling too cr*ppy.

WhippetyStourie · 15/05/2020 07:59

Good news in SA today - no known cases in the state.

echt · 24/05/2020 06:32

A big hello to all the WA MNers.

www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2020/may/24/entire-western-australia-coast-to-be-battered-by-once-in-a-decade-storm

Batten down the hatches.

Hope all stays well with you.

echt · 07/06/2020 00:39

A wave hello to everyone on the Queen's birthday weekend (except QLD and WA) 👑 and hope all is well.

The lifting of some restrictions in Vic has been good, and I've re-booked the holiday that Covid cancelled - something to look forward to.

All students back in school in Tuesday so will be interesting to see if there's a spike by holiday time in three weeks. Fingers crossed not.

WhippetyStourie · 17/06/2020 03:36

Things going well in SA. How is everyone?

StartupRepair · 17/06/2020 03:50

New cases keep bubbling up in Vic. We are still going ahead with slow reopening. I am so excited to have booked a ticket to Adelaide in late July.

echt · 30/06/2020 10:28

How are we today, Aussie MNetters?

The shit is hitting the fan in Victoria, with suburbs being locked down as in Leicester. I breathed an ignoble sigh of relief that my DD's suburb is not on the list so I can see her this week.🤞

In other news, how bloody amazing is the weather in Vic? Frosty mornings, blue skies and warm afternoons.

I hope all of you are keeping well.

ChillinInMyBacta · 30/06/2020 11:20

Had my Jetstar flight cancelled today. Was flying out to visit my DB and SIL on the Gold Coast. Things looked promising for 26-30th July MEL/OOL/MEL then everything titts up in Victoria.

Don't blame other States one bit being over cautious about community spread from Interstate visitors. I do get the rage about those people in the 10 postcode hotspots who have refused being tested. 900+ test refuseers just from the suburb of Broadmeadows. Envy

We got lazy and complacent after going in hard at the start and doing so well.

echt · 01/07/2020 01:39

Sorry to hear this, Chillin, the June/July school holiday is the one for Victorians hunting the sun. Like you I'm Hmm about those refusing to be tested, though I'm guessing many of them feel they can't afford to stay home while the results come in.

I've lost one holiday to Covid this year and re-booked as soon as intrastate travel was allowed, but am now apprehensive of a wider lockdown again. I shouldn't moan as I live close to the sea, but like all of us, want to look at something different. Smile

ButterbingQueen · 01/07/2020 01:46

I’m sorry to hear that @ChillinInMyBacta. It must be so disappointing. I totally agree that people got lazy and complacent very quickly. Maybe because, thankfully, we haven’t had the horror show that the UK has had? I was quite disappointed to hear that a (melbourne) friend had been visiting her in laws the whole of lockdown anyway Hmm. As for the people who refused to get tested Angry.

@echt - I feel sorry for those in the suburbs that have been locked down, but ultimately it needs to be done. We’re lucky that it hasn’t affected us, but if that changes we’ll just need to suck it up Smile. I must admit I’m finding the whole lockdown thing pretty tough - mostly the fact our families who were due to visit in July & August now can’t come. It’s been quite a blow Sad.

echt · 01/07/2020 02:03

God, I'd complete'y forgotten about that. I've been so mired in online teaching that I'd forgotten various friends and relations from the UK were coming over late 2020 - mid 2021! We hadn't locked in dates so it didn't figure in quite the same way, but still, Covid pushed it right away from my radar.

I shudder to think how expensive flights will be when international travel starts up again - no sooner than mid-2021 I hear - speculation not inside info.

ButterbingQueen · 01/07/2020 03:56

I’ve heard the same thing, but they obviously won’t commit to a date at the moment as nobody knows how things will go! There’s a high chance we will have to go back (permanently) at the end of this year/start of next year and I’m dreading how much the flights will cost Sad.

Aebj · 01/07/2020 04:12

The only awesome thing about Victoria having so many cases is that we now get the footy over here and maybe the Dockers will do a weird thing and win one game!!!
I’m happy with the boarders being shut but so wish it was cheaper to fly to Broome , so we could visit our own state, which is what the government want us to do!!! It’s far to cold here in Perth . !!!

echt · 01/07/2020 05:34

I was about to suggest driving then I saw it was 22 hours to Broome. Shock :o

Australia is big, isn't it?

Aebj · 01/07/2020 10:02

Certainly is!!! We’ve driven Perth to Canberra before and that was kind of fun!!!!

StartupRepair · 01/07/2020 10:17

I'm adjacent to the Melbourne lockdown areas. Basically surrounded by them. Cancelled my flight to Adelaide and feeling a bit sad about it all.

FruitTingleFrizzante · 01/07/2020 15:18

💐@StartupRepair sorry your trip was cancelled. Hoping in a few weeks the vic situation will be proper sorted and nothing but a blip on what has been a stressful but a largely successful swerve of the wider spread chaos that is c19 (compared globally)

Adelaide will be still be here in the spring (but with warmer days and more tree blossom) ready for your visit.

Anyone else a bit gobsmacked by all the talk of Brits flying abroad for holidays? It just seems unfathomable. I'm not game to comment on the threads on Aibu but it's blows my little naive mind. We've pushed back our uk holiday plans to 2022 (at the earliest!) very concerned about cost of travel (as well as mulit covid waves/brexit double banger)

StartupRepair · 01/07/2020 21:43

Yes I have been amazed by the UK posters' holiday discussions. I don't think we'll be flying out of Australia for another year or more. Poor DS has designed much of his degree around studying Indonesian with exchange there - he is back to the drawing board on that.

echt · 01/09/2020 10:52

So how is the Aussie Massive going?

In Melbourne we're slogging through stage 4. It's a pisser, and my political sympathies aside, feel Daniel Andrews is in fine mid-season form and support his efforts in the face of twat-badgery remarks from the Feds.

The bit that does get on my threepennies is that I can't see my DD, my only relative in Au, but I can see someone I shag (as if) any time. DA needs to re-think this one.

How are you all?
