I suppose AIBU to put this here...but it IS the busiest area. I just thought...I'd see if there were any other MNrs in Oz who'd like a little chat thread together?

I’m not enjoying the return to winter today ❄️❄️❄️

It was unexpected, wasn't it? I've just been walking the pooch, and lovely to feel the sun, but turn a corner and hello! someone's left the door open on Antartica.

I'll check out that deli next time I"m at SMM, though I've not been for ages.

Degustibusnonestdisputandem1 · 08/10/2019 10:42

Yes it's been a chilly one today - we've had to relight the wood heater!

EagleSqueak · 08/10/2019 10:47

I got my long boots and a woolly jumper out again and was still cold!
The market isn’t exactly handy, but I love going for a mooch around. I hope you think the sausages are ok - I feel responsible now! 😄

StartupRepair · 08/10/2019 11:31

Echt I hope you are happy to see the rain.

SnowsInWater · 08/10/2019 12:26

My local IGA in Sydney sells proper Irish sausages from a company called (rather unoriginally) "the Irish butcher". They used to stock their black pudding too but have stopped, I'm gutted!

bluetongue · 08/10/2019 12:57

I’m loving the return to winter Smile

I endured Saturday then got to do my outdoor activities on Sunday and Monday.

After putting it off as long as possible I’ve finally had to arrange for my NBN to be installed. I’m already annoyed that I have to pay $60 for a new modem when I have choice about the matter. I’m fully expecting it to be shit as I can’t afford one of the fast plans. Oh and they give you a fucking five hour window when I have to be home.

MiniDoofa · 08/10/2019 16:46

It’s been a beautiful day here in Perth! 33degrees , have taken the kids to the river for a splash around. Felt like summer. Am knackered now tho, school hols exhausting!!
Am I alone in loving the British Sausage Co range available in coles? Especially the caramelised onion ones??! They’re our favourites 😀

MiniDoofa · 08/10/2019 17:30

Oh and the nice weather has brought some horrendous hay fever with it!! Massive headache all day, hoping whatever I’m allergic to could just shift all it’s pollen now and get it over with (clearly know not much about plants but am def over the allergies!!)

StartupRepair · 08/10/2019 20:30

Sympathies bluetongue. Our NBN installation somehow took a number of appointments. I ended up getting $200 compensation from Telstra for all the time wasting. Had to fight for it!

echt · 09/10/2019 08:46

Echt I hope you are happy to see the rain

I am indeed, though its arrival has coincided with the start of the new term, so now I'm knee deep in Year 12 work, though not for long. I'll eventually get the perfect circumstance of damp soil, mulch on the drive, and time to wheelbarrow it all into the yard.

crabb · 11/10/2019 10:37

Can’t comment about sausages but can I put in a vote for Canberra bacon? We have 3 manufacturers here who do great bacon - Pialligo Estate, Poachers Pantry, and Balzanelli. Don’t know where/if they’re available outside the ACT, and they’re pricey, but well worth it. (And hello to @PomPomtheGreat, thanks for praising Canberra. Not much love for us normally)

Degustibusnonestdisputandem1 · 11/10/2019 11:10

At least I managed to find some nice Stilton! 😁. On a different note, the kids' citizenship came through today, in less than 2 weeks!

echt · 12/10/2019 01:38

Still on the small goods, Rob's British Butcher's in Dandenong is very good. As is Dandenong itself, which has the best range of cafes and restaurants from a dizzying range of ethnic backgrounds, as a well as the market. Oh, and cheap. To be fair Dandenong is not lovely to look at, but the food...

PomPomtheGreat · 14/10/2019 00:57

I couldn't imagine a nicer place to live. I never want to leave, although I have a dream of a small retirement flat in Merimbula to visit a few months a year!

It amazes me how few Aussies have even visited Canberra. To hear many of them talk, it's an Arctic wasteland, and they dursen't venture here :)

Degustibusnonestdisputandem1 · 14/10/2019 04:17

I've been to Canberra several times 😊. Family holiday when younger, youth science forum in late '95/early '96 ish... and CSIRO for work!

StartupRepair · 14/10/2019 06:57

I love Canberra. DS is at ANU and I always enjoy going for a visit. It is an unrecognised gem.

PomPomtheGreat · 14/10/2019 07:24

OH was with CSIRO for some years and still does freelance stuff for them. My older two loved their time at ANU. I often drive through the campus to pick up OH from meetings there and it feels like a little oasis with the river running through it and its curving, tree-lined streets. The new café area is particularly nice. Lucky students!

SnowsInWater · 14/10/2019 08:38

I've got quite fond of Canberra in the past year as DH is there for work a couple of times a month and I have started piggy backing on his trips. We stay in a nice hotel in Braddon and enjoy exploring the local restaurants. I am happy to go to the cinema on my own during the day and the Dendy shows great films.

crabb · 15/10/2019 03:13

Sshh, don’t keep mentioning how good Canberra is, they’ll all want to move here Wink.

PomPomtheGreat · 15/10/2019 06:46

Yes, when we arrived, everyone said it was Australia's best kept secret and I thought they were just justifying themselves. Not so!

But yes, I don't know why I spread the word:)

SnowsinWater, if you are in Braddon, you're not far from New Acton and there are some really nice restaurants and cafes there opposite the Palace Electric. We often go to the Italian one with the big herb garden out front.

Aus84 · 15/10/2019 06:56

Oh hello 👋 how did I miss this when it was first created.

BaruFisher · 15/10/2019 12:36

We worked a short contract in Cooma not far from Canberra. Enjoyed our visit to the city and Cooma was nice and cool in summertime (especially coming from FNQ!)

Visited Merimbula as mentioned by a PP also and loved it.

echt · 19/10/2019 06:52

How are we Aussies today? For me the rains have arrived and I've breaking my shovelling mulch. Putting the shovel aside, it is lovely to hear the rain on the metal rood.

Tonight I will have my first bath in about four years to ease the potential ache tomorrow. I am not a minger, just don't like baths much.

echt · 19/10/2019 07:04

Breaking my back. Blush

echt · 19/10/2019 07:05

Roof. Who has a metal rood? Or even a rood this days?
