No based solely on but inspired by a couple of threads in the last few days. I’m not quite vegan yet but plan to be fully by the next few months and none of my friends, about quarter of whom at vegan are not sanctimonious or preachy at all.

Also please stop bashing vegan cakes! They’re yummy!!

You say MN is hostile by creating a thread bound to create hostility.

Nobody cares whether you eat cheese or not.

RebornFlame · 27/08/2019 17:24

I created a discussion point based on what I’ve seen. The hostility is already there imo.

I'm almost vegan - still eat eggs.

IMO MN isn't hostile to vegans.

Why would you think that?

RebornFlame · 27/08/2019 17:25

I’ll try and link the threads in question but over the years I’ve been here many things

Sammi38 · 27/08/2019 17:25

It’s not all vegans, just the sanctimonious and preachy ones.

There’s always a few rotten eggs...

toiletseat · 27/08/2019 17:26

I agree with OP

Hedgehogblues · 27/08/2019 17:27

Mumsnet is pretty conservative to be honest. Hostile to anything not seen as "normal" or mainstream

HandsOffMyRights · 27/08/2019 17:28

I agree OP

lemonbiscuit · 27/08/2019 17:29

OP - would like to have some vegan cake recipes that are good please!

Booboosweet · 27/08/2019 17:30

I am not hostile to vegans but I am hostile to people telling me what they eat because I don't care what they eat

MustardScreams · 27/08/2019 17:30

I don’t think I’ve seen hostility towards vegans. There is strong viewpoints around things such as raising babies to be vegan, and obviously if someone is being sanctimonious they will get called out for it.

The vegan board is friendly and has loads of great resources there for you to browse op.

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 27/08/2019 17:32

Your op and your whole premise is a bit wishy-washy tbh OP.

Some people on Mumsnet are hostile to absolutely anything you care to mention, even kittens.

Most people have a live and let live attitude to most things, but particular issues might get up their nose a bit ... and they won't hold back from telling you on Mumsnet where it is easy to be forthright in anonymity.

firstimemamma · 27/08/2019 17:35

It's not just vegans. Mn is hostile towards lots of different groups of people / lifestyle choices i'm afraid.

Peaches2018 · 27/08/2019 17:36

I'm up for some good tasty vegan cake ideas too!!

RebornFlame · 27/08/2019 17:36

The vegan board is great. It’s gearing me up for taking the plunge so I retract the ‘mumsnet is’ tone but I’d say there’s a vocal majority that seems to be hostile to vegans.

lemonbiscuit I have a great lemon and poppy seed recipie I’ll pm to you.

PooWillyBumBum · 27/08/2019 17:37

I think if you want to find something that Mumsnet flips out over, it’s trans people (I can’t get my knickers in a twist over a tiny minority of the population - which I will very rarely encounter - and which loo they use). Or people having more money than they do. Or less. Money in general.

I am vegan and haven’t noticed though did have a chuckle at the poster earlier today lamenting lack of “protection” from vegan options in restaurants Grin

RebornFlame · 27/08/2019 17:38

But mumsnet never used to be like that. I’ve been hear almost 7 years so not a veteran by any means but it did seem to be more open and tolerent.

OP posts:
Loopytiles · 27/08/2019 17:38

I am not hostile to vegans, but am hostile to vegan cakes!

IHaveBrilloHair · 27/08/2019 17:39

I don't find MN hostile to vegans, I find some vegans preachy.
There was recently a thread about how awful bullfighting is, which was taken over by vegans saying how it's hypocritical to dislike bullfighting, but eat eggs/milk/meat.
Vegans do more harm than good with that tone.

WorraLiberty · 27/08/2019 17:39

I couldn't give a tiny mouse sized fart what MNetters choose to eat.

However.... Also please stop bashing vegan cakes! They’re yummy!!

When you say people are 'bashing' them, do you simply mean they don't like them?

So you like something that some other people don't?

RebornFlame · 27/08/2019 17:39

poowilly yes, I chuckled at that too Grin

OP posts:
AutumnCrow · 27/08/2019 17:40

I don't think the vegan-newborn-on-formula-milk thread helped much tbh

TheFaerieQueene · 27/08/2019 17:41

I don’t give a damn what MN think about vegans. I’ve been vegan for more years than I can remember and other people’s opinions on what I eat just doesn’t matter to me.

MockersthefeMANist · 27/08/2019 17:42

Something on the news just now about dogfood made from insects. Man in the park asked his views said he thought it was a good idea because he was a vegan.
