To find mumsnet so hostile to vegans?

No based solely on but inspired by a couple of threads in the last few days. I’m not quite vegan yet but plan to be fully by the next few months and none of my friends, about quarter of whom at vegan are not sanctimonious or preachy at all.

Also please stop bashing vegan cakes! They’re yummy!!

@AE18

Fair enough. I know what you mean, preaching always makes a person seem annoying. I just see a lot more of it from meat eaters than the other way around.

You may see lots more preaching from meat eaters, but you are the only one who does.

And for someone who claims to be a meat eater, you are very defensive of vegans! Confused And you sound VERY angry. Why so angry? 🤷‍♀️

@Mumtotwo82

Its true about the sly custard creams..I caught a vegan friend of mine troffing a pack down in a quite corner because he was in a mood no one bought vegan food to the party. 😂

This ^ LOL! Some 'vegans' cheat constantly. And the 'cheaters' are the worst kind. Moany, ranty, sanctimonious, judgy, and fiercely trying to hide their fresh cream chocolate eclair, and cadburys dairy milk bar they have in their handbag. 😂

@user1493759849

I'm not angry nor am I the only person that thinks it, others have said the same on here. I just disagree with you, what's your problem?

Pardalis · 27/08/2019 22:10

Btw, Almond milk isn't vegan. In case you were going to offer it up to any vegan friends.

*Not a vegan myself

Nettie1964 · 27/08/2019 22:15

Not hostile to vegans. Just preachy sanctimonious people who assume anyone cares what they eat. I always prepare vegan food for friends at bbq's etc but they never give me a sausage at theirs😂

This is another bugbear of mine, and I mentioned it earlier in the thread.

Vegans expect you to cater to their needs and bend over backwards to accommodate their precious eating habits, but will NEVER return the favour. Very selfish. They want it all their own way, and want you to treat them with respect, and cater to their dietary requirements, but will not cater to YOUR requirements.

And then they wonder why they are reviled, derided, and disliked.

Tolleshunt · 27/08/2019 22:21

Almond milk isn’t vegan? What?!! How so? It’s made from nuts, not animal produce.

HugsAreMyDrugs · 27/08/2019 22:22

They're just jel because we have banging bodies and they don't Wink.

CheeryB · 27/08/2019 22:22

but will not cater to YOUR requirements

That's because you can eat what they eat, but they can't eat what you eat. But you knew that.

NerrSnerr · 27/08/2019 22:23

According to Tesco this Almond Milk is vegan

user1493759849 you are making a stronger case for my op with every post (are you my sockie, just to hammer my point home?)

They're probably referring to the environmental impact of growing almonds.

But like I said, they're just jel 😘

ragged · 27/08/2019 22:24

If almonds aren't vegan (due to using bees to pollinate) then vegans are also banned from eating apples, blueberries, melons, brocoli, cherries...

it's harsh being a purist. What are they left able to eat? Rice and Carrots, maybe?

WalkofShame · 27/08/2019 22:25

YANBU

I’m a vegan step mum, so very used to reading threads about how awful I am.

Some of my kids are adopted and have SEN, so I’m also a child stealer and an entitled molly coddling parent according to some in here.

I couldn’t give a fuck, it’s laughable really the assumptions that people make.

timshelthechoice · 27/08/2019 22:28

Because so many of them are tedious in the extreme. God, no one fucking cares what you eat!

HugsAreMyDrugs · 27/08/2019 22:28

I'm vegan and autistic. I am the devil in human form.

WalkofShame · 27/08/2019 22:31

@HugsAreMyDrugs

You awful person 😉😂

WalkofShame · 27/08/2019 22:38

@timshelthechoice

Honest account here, I was vegan for 2 months before anyone in my household even noticed. DHs first response when I told him (because he kept insisting that I should eat something that I didn’t want to eat) was ‘fucking hell you’ll never stop going on about it now’, when I told him how long I’d been vegan, he shut up. Most of my friends don’t even know what I eat / don’t eat. I buy and cook meat for others.

But the number of people who fucking moan and moan about vegans and tell that stupid joke about ‘how can you tell if someone is vegan?’ or offer their opinion, is ridiculous. There are some vegan arseholes but they’re arseholes because they’re arseholes not because they’re vegan.

PositiveVibez · 27/08/2019 22:38

I think if you want to find something that Mumsnet flips out over, it’s trans people (I can’t get my knickers in a twist over a tiny minority of the population - which I will very rarely encounter - and which loo they use)

I am just going to prove your point here, but if you think that this is really the issue, then you are merely scraping the surface.

There is a very real threat to women's rights, and if you don't want to see it that's up to you.

Personally, I couldn't give a shit what you do/don't eat, but I am bothered about mine, my daughters, my neices futures.

SandyY2K · 27/08/2019 22:40

I don't see the need to broadcast what food I eat. I think this is what irritated people.

Unless you're being invited to dinner...or need to let someone know your dietary needs... it shouldn't need to come up in conversation.

Just eat what you eat and leave it be.

NerrSnerr · 27/08/2019 22:48

There are some vegan arseholes but they’re arseholes because they’re arseholes not because they’re vegan.

The meat eating arseholes are arseholes for the same reason.

I do think that some of the posters on both sides of the argument on this thread are taking the piss just to wind people up, which is clearly working a treat!

BertrandRussell · 27/08/2019 22:50

Mumsnet is hideous to anyone who doesn’t fit into a very mainstream box.

Tolleshunt · 27/08/2019 23:59

They're probably referring to the environmental impact of growing almonds.. Well yes, it’s awful, but the same goes for soya and I don’t think anyone’s saying that’s not vegan?

I din’t get the bee thing either. They like/need going from flower to flower, don’t they? If we prevented them from doing so, how would they continue to exist?

AutumnCrow · 28/08/2019 00:14

Bee farming can be cruel, e.g. removing wings to stop them flying away. Hence different prices of cheap farmed and organic honey.

PickAChew · 28/08/2019 00:22

How the hell do bees gather nectar without wings?

AutumnCrow · 28/08/2019 00:24
