To think you should text before you call someone

This might just be me but it annoys me when someone randomly calls and doesn't text first to check if I'm free to talk. I would understand if it was something urgent but when it's just for a catch up or something non important I feel like it would be more polite to just text and asked me first

Or just don't pick up? 🤨

zeezee3 · 10/08/2019 22:15

LOL! 😂

SOMEONE thinks they're important!

YABU!!!

Lemontwist · 10/08/2019 22:15

Why? You can always say it's not a good time and arrange a catch up another time

DillyDilly · 10/08/2019 22:16

Totally unreasonable, just don’t answer the phone when it rings if it doesn’t suit to answer.

PurpleDaisies · 10/08/2019 22:16

You’re being ridiculous.

Mrsfs · 10/08/2019 22:16

Well, if it isn't convenient then don't answer. No one makes you take the call. Not a big deal really.

SkelterHelter · 10/08/2019 22:16

That's bonkers!

WhoKnewBeefStew · 10/08/2019 22:16

Grin YABU

applepieicecream · 10/08/2019 22:16

That’s just weird. If you don’t want to speak then don’t answer. Totally not rude

Mac47 · 10/08/2019 22:17

What the actual fuck has the world come to if I have to ask if I can phone you?

Don't answer your phone. It's not tricky.

LemonAddict · 10/08/2019 22:17

A phone call is a request for a conversation. It’s not a demand that must be answered.

Ragwort · 10/08/2019 22:17

Just don’t answer if it’s not convenient, is that so hard? I am of the older generation and still very happily - shock horror - use the landline to phone friends for a chat, if it’s not convenient none of my friends or myself have any difficulty in saying ‘what time is convenient to call for a chat?’ Confused.

Sparklyspoon · 10/08/2019 22:17

Okay seems IABU, nevermind

Confused
Lobsterquadrille2 · 10/08/2019 22:19

I'm old enough to remember a world without mobiles .... strangely, we managed to communicate.

TanMateix · 10/08/2019 22:19

We used to knock on other people doors, then we had to ring first, now we need to text first, what comes next? Checking their Facebook or Instagram before we text?

DillyDilly · 10/08/2019 22:19

Can you imagine,

Text - hi A, are you free for a chat, just wanted to catch up. B

Text - hi B, no not just now, am just painting my nails, how about calling next Monday at 9pm? A

Text - Hi A, can’t phone then, will be playing tennis. Just wanted to tell you about (insert whatever) B

Text - Hi B, will phone you now, sounds interesting

Jeschara · 10/08/2019 22:19

This just sounds silly.

Lazypuppy · 10/08/2019 22:19

😂🤦‍♀️

BeanBag7 · 10/08/2019 22:20

I usually ask someone "are you busy?" (Verbally) at the beginning of a phone call, if I'm going to be calling fit any length of time. Usually people just don't pick up if they're too busy to talk and then might text saying why they're busy and when they'll be free. Couldnt you just do that?

EAIOU · 10/08/2019 22:20

I dont think it's a big deal tbh.

If you dont wish to chat, then dont pick up.

How do you think people contacted each other to check these things before mobiles came along?Confused

isabellerossignol · 10/08/2019 22:22

Well loads of people on Mumsnet get irate when people text them, so how would anyone know what to do to do the right thing?

Just don't answer if you don't want to talk.

Itsyersel · 10/08/2019 22:22

Someone's looking for attention tonight!

thecatinthetwat · 10/08/2019 22:22

Op, Do you struggle to say no?

It’s perfectly fine to not answer op or just say only got 2 mins, can call you back tomorrow, or whatever.

It’s not necessary to text someone first because it’s ok to just not answer.
