To think Mr Big really is a shit?

I used to watch Sex and the City and think Big was the ideal man. Handsome, wealthy etc., but I'm rewatching the entire series now and he's just awful to Carrie. Why does she put up with it and keep going back to him?!

Not that she's much better.

I always thought he was terrible, but she was too (in a different way) remember she cheated on Aidan, knowingly had an affair with Big when he was married (then harassed his ex wife trying to seek forgiveness later), frequently ditched her friends for her boyfriend (like when she cancelled on them for the Russian, and sent Aidan when Miranda fell in the bath) - they deserved each other in a way!!

I loved the show but didn’t find any of the characters appealing. Maybe Miranda.

I've started rewatching them aswell and thought the exact same! I was so darn mad at her when she cheated on Aiden with Big! Carrie is a bit of a narcissistic twat though so her and Big seem suited. Aiden was too good for her.

Carrie is a madam. She and Big deserve each other.
Charlotte is a delusional princess - although she improved. I liked Harry too, and ultimately felt sorry for... Robert? Whatever Mr. 1 was called.
Samantha was “that” friend that you keep around to make you feel better about yourself and because she gets you in to places and drunk for cheap.
Miranda was brilliant.

I don't like Aidan either but I can't quite remember why. I'm sure he done something that was quite controlling. He's not in it yet on my rewatch.

He goes into a huff I think and won't tell Carrie why. I'll have to watch out for it.

Carrie has just stood up Miranda for dinner with Big instead. Literally gets a phone call from a dressed up Miranda who asks where she is and Carrie isn't even apologetic. She's a terrible friend.

Oh I love Samantha, she's my favourite. I would be very happy to be like her.

Oh yeah, Big was the worst but then as many have pointed out, so was Carrie. Let’s face facts- pretty much everyone in that show was a knobhead with the exception of Harry and Steve (before they had him cheat on Miranda in the first film for seemingly no reason but to make a nice character into as much of an arsehole as the rest of them).

I never liked Aidan though. I always thought he was a bit holier-than-thou. We get it, you’re a great guy, you’re a carpenter like Jesus, you’ve got a dog.... he just irritated me.

I always loved Harry and Aiden. Steve too actually although spoiler if you haven't seen the film not so much after he cheated on miranda.

Big was bad but Carrie was worse. I think I hated her most in the second film when she cheated on big with Aidan, was vile to her friends when they tried to stop her and then came back interrupting their important motherly bonding session to cry about the thing they tried to stop her from doing.

But she was awful throughout the whole series as well.

Carrie is basically commitment phobic.
Big is mostly unattainable, which makes him deeply attractive to her.
Neither of them are really that nice! But SATC isn't really meant to be nice Grin
They're all pretty shallow and selfish. The only depth is in their female friendships.

Another thing I was shocked at was the circumcision storyline with Charlotte. I had no idea it was common in the US.
