The Lake District - WHY???

washedoutandabout · 19/07/2019 19:03

Rain, drizzle and yet more rain. Grey sky, grey houses and damp. Everyone in anoraks. Mist and fog and more grey. Plus I’m here with a bunch of American relatives who are all gung-ho and outward-bound and very loud, shrill “upspeak” voices, who think even the grottiest pub is “Awesome!!” Plus DH loves it and is showing off on his competitive extreme hikes.

Help - take me back to Fulham!

AIBU to think this is hell on earth?

Yabu the lake district is one of the most beautiful places in this country

AnyFucker · 19/07/2019 19:05

Philistine Smile

I am on my way up there for the weekend, like most weeks. Love it.

catwithnohat · 19/07/2019 19:06

The Lake District is gorgeous. I wouldn't visit at this time of year myself though....too many people.

SlightlyMisplacedSingleDad · 19/07/2019 19:06

You're in one of the most beautiful places on earth. But I guess some people just aren't happy unless they're unhappy

washedoutandabout · 19/07/2019 19:06

You come here every weekend?Confused

What is it I’m missing here? I have to survive until Tuesday.

Beautiful place, YABU. There will be some sunny spells tomorrow and glorious weather Sunday. Plus it's dry in the pub.

Disfordarkchocolate · 19/07/2019 19:07

Very unreasonable, it's even more beautiful in the rain. All you need is the right clothing and you will be fine.

washedoutandabout · 19/07/2019 19:07

Too many people? Confused Where? It’s just sheep and mist.

ShinyMe · 19/07/2019 19:07

Because Fulham is lovely in the pouring rain?

luckylavender · 19/07/2019 19:07

Why do some people moan all the time?

MaxNormal · 19/07/2019 19:07

It's a pretty place but like most of the UK the weather is apt to be shite. And it's horribly overcrowded I'm the school holidays.
YANBU.

flowery · 19/07/2019 19:07

Presumably it also rains in Fulham?

Moominfan · 19/07/2019 19:08

No such thing as bad weather...

washedoutandabout · 19/07/2019 19:08

How is it more beautiful in the rain? That’s exactly what the relatives were claiming today. But how, if you can’t see more than 5 metres? Are you supposed to hallucinate?

Macca84 · 19/07/2019 19:09

I live here! In the quieter parts though, but... leave it alone! Grin

AnyFucker · 19/07/2019 19:09

Yes, I live about an hour away. I am driving up right now. It's my Happy Place.

It's not always grey and wet. Today looks a bit shit from the M6 as we speak. Easter was hot and sunny. Since then the weather has been mixed but mostly good. Like the rest of the UK.

QueenieMum · 19/07/2019 19:09

YABVVVVU. Don't you get that kind of weather in Fulham?! There are plenty of things to do & see & there are MUCH worse places to be. You sound like an absolute joy to be around. Not.

washedoutandabout · 19/07/2019 19:09

No we do not have this type of rain in London. This is different rain for sure.

NavyBerry · 19/07/2019 19:10

Oh it is the most beautiful place I have ever seen (I have seen many)! Enjoy the nature and try to share your American company's excitement))) no harm in a bit of fog and rain

Want2727 · 19/07/2019 19:10

It’s great if you know where to go to get away from the crowds

Disfordarkchocolate · 19/07/2019 19:11

Which bit are you in? I rarely manage to avoid people but I'm quite unfit. Also, don't go Grasmere, so many tourists even though it is very pretty.

Heronwatcher · 19/07/2019 19:11

YABU. Fulham is one of the most awful places on earth even when it is sunny (slightly joking as I live close, but the traffic, football idiots, self-entitlement, rubbish and pollution are dreadful). Ditch the relatives and go for a coffee in Kendal, lake Buttermere or a solitary ramble around anywhere really. The Lake District is glorious!

washedoutandabout · 19/07/2019 19:11

Where are these crowds?

Crunchymum · 19/07/2019 19:11

I'd swap with you (although you'd have to keep my kids Grin)

Decormad38 · 19/07/2019 19:12

At least you didn't grow up there!
