To say breastfeeding does ruin your boobs?

When I was pregnant, everywhere said ‘breastfeeding doesn’t change your boobs, pregnancy does’ now pregnancy did change my boobs everytime however, the child I did breastfeed - once I weaned, my boobs pretty much disappeared like someone had deflated a balloon on a completely different level. I went from an E to barely filling a B cup once milk dried up.

Speaking to other mums, I was certainly not alone.

So AIBU to call bullshit on the popular advice ‘breastfeeding doesn’t ruin your boobs, pregnancy does’

I understand this is probably said so people aren’t put off breastfeeding but there is no need to treat woman like idiots. Informed choices is important. I struggle so much with body image and confidence and it’s been shattered. I wish people were honest with woman from the beginning.

Didn’t change my boobs, they’re slightly bigger. My nipples will never be the same though after being stretched like chewing gum when my dd would finish feeding and slowly drop off...

kaytee87 · 25/05/2019 17:12

It didn't change mine at all, maybe because they were big to begin with.

Is it 'ruined' when they've done what they're meant to and have naturally changed?

DappledThings · 25/05/2019 17:12

I was either pregnant or breastfeeding without a break for 4 years. Now 3 months later and I'm pretty sure they are the same as they ever were.

So it's an anecdotal YABU from me!

Itwouldtakemuchmorethanthis · 25/05/2019 17:13

Mine didn’t shrink...in fact the opposite

Ohyesiam · 25/05/2019 17:13

Mine were a bit smaller, but still firm after 3 years of bf.

MardyLardy · 25/05/2019 17:14

Did ten years of feeding - nipples still the same, boobs still the same b cup size and whilst not as pristine as they were a decade ago they are holding up pretty well against the depreciation of some other body parts!

My mate didn’t bf and in the same time her have become really low and empty.

Pregnancy and genetics?

Lwg87 · 25/05/2019 17:15

18 months into breastfeeding here and they seem fine - at the moment!

FannyFeatures · 25/05/2019 17:16

I've always had shit boobs and I lost a load of weight from pre pregnancy to weaning at 16 months, I just put the general sock with a snooker ball look down to that more than feeding!

I went from a HH to C.

SnuggyBuggy · 25/05/2019 17:16

I'm guessing it's different for everyone but when do they shrink? I'm sick of mine being so huge but want to continue for another year morning and evening.

Gottoloveabagel · 25/05/2019 17:16

Yes for a total of 4.5 years and they are bigger than they were (not that there was much there to start with Grin)

I think it just shows everyone is different!

DuckWillow · 25/05/2019 17:17

Pregnancy and denetics sadly. Nothing to do with breastfeeding so YABU

Celebelly · 25/05/2019 17:17

I'm only four months in but I think my nipples are definitely irrevocably changed from my DD pulling on them and and grinning. I noticed the other day they now point in completely different directions.

My boobs got wrecked in first trimester anyway as they grew so rapidly I got stretch marks all over them.

Mog6840 · 25/05/2019 17:17

When I stopped breastfeeding after 18 months I agree with you that they shrunk to nothing and felt really empty.
But give it time...they eventually regained their fullness and I'd say they were slightly bigger than they were before having my son.

flapjackfairy · 25/05/2019 17:18

I breastfed 3 and it hasn't had a detrimental effect on mine tbh.

booblessmonster · 25/05/2019 17:18

Those who say it didn’t change your boobs, were your boobs big to begin with?
6 of my antenatal group have all stopped bf recently and we’ve all said the same thing about tiny prune looking boobs once milk dried up- It’s horrible!
I even had breast exam recently as felt a lump, only to be told it was my rib I was feeling. The tech said this was incredibly common in mums that have finished bf’ing because your breasts have shrunk so much.
My other pregnancies didn’t do this, only the one I decided to bf for a year!

Mine look the same as before breastfeeding. Stomach is another matter!

Celebelly · 25/05/2019 17:19

How recently did you stop? I think they take a few months to get back to normal!

Astrid0208 · 25/05/2019 17:19

Yes mine were HH before and a J now that I'm a stone heavier.

Mummyoflittledragon · 25/05/2019 17:20

Mine are a little bigger after 2 1/2 years of feeding. More droopy as well.

MayorPrentiss · 25/05/2019 17:20

Yep YABU. A cup size bigger and still perky after feeding 2 DC for a year each. Slightly less perky than they were but can't complain. My stomach, on the other hand, is a wrinkly mess - definitely blame pregnancy and not breastfeeding for the state of my body now!

Itwouldtakemuchmorethanthis · 25/05/2019 17:21

Yes, big boobs before and after.

Littlemissdaredevil · 25/05/2019 17:21

BF didn’t ruin my boobs. It’s 5 months since I stopped and they are still two sizes bigger than pre pregnancy. There are a bit more saggy. However, this could be because they are bigger

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 25/05/2019 17:21

B/C cup before and the same after- breastfeed for 10months- look the same just more stretch marks

Littlemissdaredevil · 25/05/2019 17:21

I started with a B and ended up with a D

EdWinchester · 25/05/2019 17:22

It made mine bigger and that didn’t change when I stopped.

It made them veiny, but that went away when I stopped.

It hasn’t had any detrimental effect. They are still perky and full and pass the pencil test 😊

One of my friends didn’t breast feed and hers have gone like spaniel’s ears (her description).
