To say breastfeeding does ruin your boobs?

When I was pregnant, everywhere said ‘breastfeeding doesn’t change your boobs, pregnancy does’ now pregnancy did change my boobs everytime however, the child I did breastfeed - once I weaned, my boobs pretty much disappeared like someone had deflated a balloon on a completely different level. I went from an E to barely filling a B cup once milk dried up.

Speaking to other mums, I was certainly not alone.

So AIBU to call bullshit on the popular advice ‘breastfeeding doesn’t ruin your boobs, pregnancy does’

I understand this is probably said so people aren’t put off breastfeeding but there is no need to treat woman like idiots. Informed choices is important. I struggle so much with body image and confidence and it’s been shattered. I wish people were honest with woman from the beginning.

Still breastfeeding so can’t fully comment. But after having a million and one feeding problems, I do now think my nips are so tough they’d probably survive a nuclear war Hmm

MadamMMA · 25/05/2019 18:58

Mine didn’t change but they were on the big side before

I agree op. My mum bf 3 kids & her boobs are flat and down to her belly button. I’ve had 2 dc, didn’t bf & mine are not that much different than before (although I wouldn’t describe them as perky- I’ve never seen a ‘perky’ boob bigger than a c- cup so I’m amazed at how many women have naturally perky dd+ boobs here Hmm)

LightsInOtherPeoplesHouses · 25/05/2019 19:04

Started as a b, went up to an f at the largest. Settled down at a c. Not ruined at all!

cheeriolover · 25/05/2019 19:05

I think mine are slightly bigger than before bf and ive bf three children. However I did stop bf very gradually so maybe that made a difference. I didn't get any stretch marks after pregnancy so I think maybe it's also down to your skin type and elasticity.... I was a b cup and now I'm a c

bengalcat · 25/05/2019 19:07

Pregnancy , giving birth and breastfeeding potentially cause a lot of changes to your body as might increasing age .

TescosFinest · 25/05/2019 19:07

I breastfed three babies for 6 combined years. My boobs have grown from D (pre-pregnancy) to GG now. I finished breastfeeding 3 years ago. They initially deflate after stopping bf, but fill back out over the following 6-12 months. Mine still look good, not much worse than pre-children really, slightly shallow at the top, but full and with a nice shape. So no, breastfeeding did not ruin my boobs.

lljkk · 25/05/2019 19:11

I had soft floppy boobs 35 yrs ago. Breastfeeding 4 DC, each one at least 18m, didn't change anything about them.

Only 34D, though. Nearly flat-chested by MN standards. Am I the only woman on MN who has been the same size all adult life except when preggo/engorged?

MadamMMA · 25/05/2019 19:12

Mine are a E cup and perky but I put that down to press ups and chest presses

mamaofboyzz · 25/05/2019 19:13

I agree with you mine are ruined😩

StrumpersPlunkett · 25/05/2019 19:16

Mine didn’t change shape much but I have gone from having v v sexual sensitive nipples to being able to hang shopping bags off them without even noticing.

Maybebaybe · 25/05/2019 19:22

I went from a C cup to (now) a FF cup after feeding two babies. I am maybe 7lbs heavier than I was before babies (never weighed myself before pregnancy, one of the benefits of having a recovered anorexic mum). I can only attribute the huge boobs to pregnancy and/or breastfeeding. I presume my hips may be wider too. I really never gave my figure or weight a second thought before pregnancy and all that weighing and checking. I can only go by photos of me before and now. And go on size.

Thatsnotmyotter · 25/05/2019 19:22

Breastfeeding has changed my boobs a bit I think. I was a 28E/F when I got pregnant. Went up to a 30GG quite early on in pregnancy, was a 30H/HH for a while after he was born and am now (at 8 months, still breastfeeding) probably around a 30F/FF. They are definitely a bit ‘deflated’ at the moment but tbh I’ve had exactly the same with weight loss previously so I’m not too bothered. They’re still fairly pert and some chest exercises to build the muscle underneath will help once the tri season is over.

Onceuponacheesecake · 25/05/2019 19:24

Pregnancy changes your boobs. You just don't see the full effect until you stop breastfeeding IMO.

flirtygirl · 25/05/2019 19:28

Mine look fab after nearly 5 years of feeding 2 kids and both some time ago. 38jj or 40j depending on brand and I'm still amazed at their full roundness.

Always had big boobs and beast feeding made no difference.

flirtygirl · 25/05/2019 19:29

Now my stomach that's another story.

KinderSurpriseBump · 25/05/2019 19:29

I always had small boobs. When I was breastfeeding they got bigger and really nice. Loved them. Once stopped bf they shrunk to their usual size. Now I'm expecting again so they're slowly growing Grin

ceebeejeebies · 25/05/2019 19:34

I'm breastfeeding my 3rd and I hate the appearance of my boobs.
They were quite small to begin with, 30D, and I fed my first while I was pregnant with my second and after feeding her they were horrible. Basically just loose skin.
I loved them during pregnancy with my 3rd, they filled back up and looked great, and now after another 12 months of feeding they've shrunken back down to the saggy, deflated size they were before.
Breastfeeding definitely ruined my boobs. I wouldn't change having fed all of my children it's been a lovely experience, but I'm definitely going to need a boob job if I'm ever going to feel happy with them again. I don't know if I'm brave enough for that though.

Bwekfusth · 25/05/2019 19:36

I never breast fed either of mine, and my tits are shit now. They were always very small, but now they're very small and saggy. Absolutely detest them.

Henrysmycat · 25/05/2019 19:43

Who are these lucky shrinking boobs? I started at 32DD and I’m now a 32 GG. It’s like the milk never dried. They grew and never went down and they extremely heavy. My DD is now 10. I’ve put about a stone extra weight but I was underweight before.
They are causing me all short of issues with back pain and a mole that got infected from rubbing with the bra strap, complete mess.

WindsweptEgret · 25/05/2019 19:50

Op apparently they seem empty when you stop...over a year or so the breast tissue will fill you stretched boobs. Nope, 8 years post breastfeeding here

Redcrayons · 25/05/2019 19:51

Same size before and after. Ginormous during pg and bf.

They're saggier than 20 years ago but that's probably age.

Itsnotmesothere · 25/05/2019 19:57

I bf DS for 2.5 years. My breasts are still a 32D. No shrinkage, no enlargement. I think they look alright. They're a bit bigger now because I'm pregnant.

Apparently deflation happens if you stop too suddenly. I'm very a bit vain so I tried to stop ever so gradually with this information in mind.

ButiLoveHim32 · 25/05/2019 19:57

YANBU Out of all 6 of my close group of friends, we have all breastfed from.between 1 year to 5yrs between us. Every single boob is exactly the same. Empty, saggy, deflated and 2-3 times smaller. I say mine remind me when I have made a cup of tea and take the teabag out. Filled at the bottom and loose skin at the top. I bloody hate them. I had a fabulous chest. My 1st was bottle fed and no problem. The other ones breastfed. Although I don't regret feeding them, it was wonderful and I loved it at the time. Part of me does think, I'm early 30's and I have the boobs I've seen an 80yr old. I'm seriously considering surgery, as are a few of my friends. allthecakes yes, yes, yes!
