To say breastfeeding does ruin your boobs?

When I was pregnant, everywhere said ‘breastfeeding doesn’t change your boobs, pregnancy does’ now pregnancy did change my boobs everytime however, the child I did breastfeed - once I weaned, my boobs pretty much disappeared like someone had deflated a balloon on a completely different level. I went from an E to barely filling a B cup once milk dried up.

Speaking to other mums, I was certainly not alone.

So AIBU to call bullshit on the popular advice ‘breastfeeding doesn’t ruin your boobs, pregnancy does’

I understand this is probably said so people aren’t put off breastfeeding but there is no need to treat woman like idiots. Informed choices is important. I struggle so much with body image and confidence and it’s been shattered. I wish people were honest with woman from the beginning.

Mine definitely shrunk and there wasn’t much there to start with Sad originally B/C now even an A is too big

EdWinchester · 25/05/2019 17:23

..I was a 32C, now a 32DD.

booblessmonster · 25/05/2019 17:23

How long did it take them to look ‘normal’ once your milk dried up? Or did they just never change when bf and stopping?
It’s been 6 months for me.

I was a G before breastfeeding, I'm a GG now but I'm also 2 stone heavier than pre-kids. I finished breastfeeding 7 years ago and my boobs are much the same as before.

EdWinchester · 25/05/2019 17:24

Mine felt a bit deflated on the top when I stopped and it took about 6 months for the fullness to return.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 25/05/2019 17:25

I had to stop breastfeeding quite suddenly, and was absolutely gutted when my DD’s shrunk to barely B’s, but I was that size before I got pregnant, so I’m not sure the feeding was to blame.

milkshak3 · 25/05/2019 17:26

it doesn't. I BF continually for 5.5 years (incl 2 x 6 months ebf). my breasts looked awful after I finally stopped but within a year the fat tissue or whatever it is came back and my breasts were back to their pre-BF shape.

I was a E cup. I went up to an G cup with ds1, they shrunk to an F cup, then when I had and breastfeed ds2 I went up to a J cup and now 13 years later I’m a H cup. So mine didn’t shrink they expanded! Lol

BiscuitDrama · 25/05/2019 17:27

I would think that they look better while you’re breastfeeding, than if you weren’t, so when you stop you see what they would have been like post pregnancy.
I don’t know, but mine aren’t too bad, I’m now five years post breastfeeding and fed off and on for four years. Medium sized boobs (just over a handful!).

dannydyerismydad · 25/05/2019 17:28

Mine were a small b cup before pregnancy. Breastfed for 3.5 years. They are exactly the same small b cup again. I miss their slightly fuller look.

Justnapping · 25/05/2019 17:28

Give it a bit longer, mine are back to normal now but it can take a while

I'm a double d. I breastfed my daughter until she was 4, and stopped 6 months ago. My boobs haven't changed much in that time.

kaytee87 · 25/05/2019 17:29

Op it could be that they're 'worse' after this last pregnancy as you've had others and you're older. Rather than the breastfeeding itself.
For eg my friends stomach looked ok after her first baby but her skin didn't go back after her second and is now droopy. She didn't gain any extra weight.

Grasspigeons · 25/05/2019 17:29

Mine are much fuller. My stomach however is ruined

Peachesandcream14 · 25/05/2019 17:30

Mine are a little bigger, and a little saggier after 2 years of bf. I was a little upset initially at how sad they looked but it keeps improving with time.

QueenofmyPrinces · 25/05/2019 17:30

I’ve been breastfeeding for 5 years, straight and still am, and I definitely feel like my boobs have been ruined.

I’m starting to worry what they are going to look like when I stop breast feeding my current one.... Sad

OhMyDarling · 25/05/2019 17:32

My mum was one of 7- my nan said bf ruined hers
I’m one of 6- my mum said it ruined hers
My dds both had allergies, both had prescription baby milk- my tits are still amazing! And dds both healthy, happy, clever despite only bf for 3 days each despite the accusations by HV’s that using prescription milk would be the worst thing I could ever do to them (both HV’s declared this- lunacy I tell you).

sweetkitty · 25/05/2019 17:32

Not in my experience I was a 34C/D beforehand
4 pregnancies and 7+ years of breastfeeding left them a bit deflated but that was 7 odd years ago and they’ve even out again I’m in in 40s now they’re back at a 34C, not saggy look ok in a good bra I’m proud of my boobs they’ve done their job well!

PinkOboe · 25/05/2019 17:32

It was the subsequent loss / gain / loss / gain of weight that did for mine

Fatasfooook · 25/05/2019 17:33

Boobs change so much throughout your life whether you feed or not.

AllTheCakes · 25/05/2019 17:33

This pretty much sums it up Blush

Xxalisoncxx · 25/05/2019 17:36

Mine have stayed the exact same size, then again I’m a j cup to start with, I’ve actually lost 2 stone and the damn things haven’t shrunk an inch :(

kaytee87 · 25/05/2019 17:36

@OhMyDarling I think it was probably having 7 and 6 kids compared to your 2 that did it Grin
