To say breastfeeding does ruin your boobs?

When I was pregnant, everywhere said ‘breastfeeding doesn’t change your boobs, pregnancy does’ now pregnancy did change my boobs everytime however, the child I did breastfeed - once I weaned, my boobs pretty much disappeared like someone had deflated a balloon on a completely different level. I went from an E to barely filling a B cup once milk dried up.

Speaking to other mums, I was certainly not alone.

So AIBU to call bullshit on the popular advice ‘breastfeeding doesn’t ruin your boobs, pregnancy does’

I understand this is probably said so people aren’t put off breastfeeding but there is no need to treat woman like idiots. Informed choices is important. I struggle so much with body image and confidence and it’s been shattered. I wish people were honest with woman from the beginning.

I breastfed both my DC for about 18 months each. I had the empty, saggy feeling with both for about six months after stopping, but after that they're pretty much back to normal, in look, feel and size

3boysandabump · 25/05/2019 20:06

Mine were saggy before The breastfeeding anyway

Waveysnail · 25/05/2019 20:06

I always been on the bigger boob side so no it made no difference

Dotty1970 · 25/05/2019 20:08

Mine are exactly the same if not a bit fuller and I fed 4, each between 8 months and 2.5 years old

Alwaysthesun · 25/05/2019 20:09

It didn't change mine at all. I breast fed for year. My daughter is 10 now! They got a few cup sizes bigger actually...

Bibijayne · 25/05/2019 20:15

I am desperately hoping my boobs will shrink when I wean. They're waaay too big at the moment.

HappyDappy3 · 25/05/2019 20:24

Breastfed 2 babies for 2.5 years total. Mine went back to normal. Really wish they’d stayed big lol

TapasForTwo · 25/05/2019 20:32

Nope. Just the same as before. A small 32B with not enough to become saggy.

Booboostwo · 25/05/2019 20:33

Six years of breastfeeding which finished three years ago and my breasts are larger than before my first pregnancy. It’s annoying more than anything.

Also, it’s not just a saying, it’s a scientific fact that pregnancy chances breasts NDN not breast feeding.

Number3or4 · 25/05/2019 20:39

Its all genetics, using anecdotal evidence from women I know. It is definitely pregnancy that runs them. Not the first time but the third or more pregnancy that they finally decide to give up and deflate.

Veryangryvicuna · 25/05/2019 20:39

I’ve BF 4 kids each for at least a year, but with an 8 year gap between 2 & 3. They did end up a bit saggy and shrunken once I’d finished feeding each time, but always perked themselves back up to their usual E cup after enough time. Less perky than they were before no.1, but I suspect gravity would have done that anyway!

What has the worst effect on my boobs now is losing too much weight, because I seem to lose my chest fat first 🙄

MrsSarahSiddons · 25/05/2019 20:40

No, breastfeeding three kids didn’t change mine much. If anything they were slightly bigger afterwards. Losing weight from time to time affects them much more dramatically. I always lose the weight from there first!

mindutopia · 25/05/2019 20:40

My boobs were a DD before and they still are now, though maybe a bit perkier. I’m a bit fatter though so I imagine it all evens out.

Cannyhandleit · 25/05/2019 20:40

Yuppp my boobs are knackered after 13 months

Blobbyweeble · 25/05/2019 20:41

It takes a good year for them to return to post pregnancy pre breastfeeding state.

Dieu · 25/05/2019 20:41

Having kids ruins your body, full stop. My fanny's like a fucking welly top Sad

MenuPlant · 25/05/2019 20:42

'This is purely anecdotal, but it seems to me that women after pregnancy and breastfeeding either get to have a flat stomach or full / perky boobs, but not both'

Boobs fine tummy not so great.

I'm an apple though so maybe that makes sense with the PP theory?

Nips def way bigger, but that's not surprising!

newjobnerves · 25/05/2019 20:43

I EBF both my children for 9 months each. 5 years on I am the same bra size now as I was prior to pregnancy. I had my children quite young (early 20s) I always wondered if that was why my body went back to its pre pregnancy shape? I imagine it's just luck though.

Cannyhandleit · 25/05/2019 20:44

I should add I didn't breastfeed dc1 and boobs did not change at all, breastfed dc2 for 13 months and they are now like spaniel ears.

Fireballfriends · 25/05/2019 20:49

Yes to the 80 year old, teabag boobs! Mine were bloody ace before pregnancy, they are now completely wrecked and I finished bf my 3rd a year ago. Aargh!

I just think.....fuck it. What can I do? I'm not putting myself thru surgery. Would a man do that - no! When I can be arsed (One Day...) I'll tone up my limbs and belly and buy some nice bras and be glad I have healthy kids and a husband who is just dead pleased that he gets to touch my sad saggy boobs sometimes. I think there's more to life. Your boobs did a job and you can either resent them forever or get over it and decide that it's just one of the crapper parts of being a woman. Some have long lasting post-partum injuries, some have C-section scars, some have various levels of incontinence, some have permanent baby bellies, some have old lady tits. Such is life.

Frustratingly dads don't have to make any of these sacrifices of course. Bastards.

blissfullyignorantorinpain · 25/05/2019 20:52

Mine are lopsided since BF 😑

jackstini · 25/05/2019 20:52

Fed both dc for over 2 years and went from a B to a D although I would say they hang slightly lower

Have much better nipples now though, they were pretty flat before!

JaceLancs · 25/05/2019 20:52

I’m 55 and a 34G
I fed two DC until they were 18 months
No sagging or loss of firmness
Unfortunately 2 c sections have left me with a horrendous apron instead

BreconBeBuggered · 25/05/2019 20:53

I spent almost 6 years breastfeeding. Mine are still in pretty good shape, but they're too big for the rest of me, and at over 50 it's a bit of a matronly look once I'm dressed. I'm grateful I don't have to hoick them up from knee level, though.

AmIRightOrAMeringue · 25/05/2019 20:58

I see your point OP

Mine look rubbish but then they might have done with another pregnancy weight gain and loss anyway so dont know if it was breastfeeding.

But, statistically speaking, your friends and what happened to them are irrelevant. Most of my friends had girls but that's doesn't stop boys being more common. I find it a bit far fetched to think that the powers that be think that false reports on breast droopiness studies will boost breastfeeding. I mean they cant even sort easy fixes like cutting tongue tie so that would seem a bit beyond them
