To say breastfeeding does ruin your boobs?

When I was pregnant, everywhere said ‘breastfeeding doesn’t change your boobs, pregnancy does’ now pregnancy did change my boobs everytime however, the child I did breastfeed - once I weaned, my boobs pretty much disappeared like someone had deflated a balloon on a completely different level. I went from an E to barely filling a B cup once milk dried up.

Speaking to other mums, I was certainly not alone.

So AIBU to call bullshit on the popular advice ‘breastfeeding doesn’t ruin your boobs, pregnancy does’

I understand this is probably said so people aren’t put off breastfeeding but there is no need to treat woman like idiots. Informed choices is important. I struggle so much with body image and confidence and it’s been shattered. I wish people were honest with woman from the beginning.

Booboostwo 'it's a scientific fact that pregnancy changes breasts ... not breastfeeding'
Really? I'd love to see the proof of that.

HalleLouja · 25/05/2019 21:10

So I breastfed for 3 years in total and stopped 8 years ago. My boobs are still on the larger size and still perky. They did get humongous when I first started feeding.

Moonflower12 · 25/05/2019 21:11

Pretty much was pregnant or EBF through my 20s with 3 children. Boobs were small (b cup) before and after but still perky.

Had my 4th in my mid 40s. Fed her for 13 months. Now 50 and boobs are a D cup but still reasonably perky- ie my nipples point forwards not downwards!

SunshineCake · 25/05/2019 21:13

I breast fed three kids and my boobs are bigger than pre children but smaller than their biggest size when feeding. Not drooped and still look awesome to say I'm late 40's

bebeboeuf · 25/05/2019 21:17

Mine ended up larger and more even. A DD cup instead of a C but I expressed for 3 months only.

PerfectPeony2 · 25/05/2019 21:19

So far mine look the same but I’m still Bf (one year in). I wouldn’t care if they didn’t though. My stomach on the other hand...

Boobs will get saggy when I get old anyway- so I’d rather be able to say I fed my baby even if I look different to how I might have. Smile

MondeoFan · 25/05/2019 21:34

Mine are the same and I breastfed for 2 years first baby and 3 years second baby.
They are big ish though 34 DD

Afrikan · 25/05/2019 21:35

Breastfed 4. Back to normal. YABU

stopgap · 25/05/2019 21:40

I was a 32B and am now a 32D. No sagging, either—they just got fuller, and I breastfed for a total of three years.

ReganSomerset · 26/05/2019 08:07

I think mine were doomed from the time I went up three cup sizes tbh. I'm a year PP, lighter than before I got pregnant and still breastfeeding. My stomach looks like an elephant's backside, really saggy and wrinkled. My skin just isn't very elastic.

Ihatehashtags · 26/05/2019 08:17

Yep mine are ruined after breastfeeding. Saggy as and flat pancakes

maidenover · 26/05/2019 08:17

Mine went back to pretty much how they were pre-pregnancy, they are a little droopier but that is probably down to the passage of time. They barely changed at all whilst I was pregnant though.

Bwekfusth · 26/05/2019 08:24

@Dieu how many months pp are you and how many kids have you got? Confused welly top fanny was the thing I was most concerned about before kids but it's pretty much the same as before, My tits and tummy though...absolutely fucked.

Janleverton · 26/05/2019 08:40

Was a b/c before. Went up to a dd while breastfeeding. Down to a D post feeding. Now down to a C, 8 years after last feeding. They’re not as pert as they were before breastfeeding. But I am 17 years older. My stomach is not as taut as it was either. With boobs and stomach they are both more noticeably different when I lose weight.

So I don’t think that feeding has knackered my boobs.

Fed 3 dcs. Each for between 9 months and 3 years.

makingmammaries · 26/05/2019 08:52

It certainly ruined mine, because I ended up with a weird lactation-related benign tumour and had surgery to remove it. Still, pregnancy did far more to ruin my figure, not to mention pelvic floor.

NotTheMrMenAgain · 26/05/2019 09:05

I started as a DD and after bf they went to an F or FF. So they're technically bigger but not in a good way - they've sort of lost some fullness at the top and spread out. They still look pretty good, not saggy - but different. A balcony bra works wonders!

Ravenclawclassof84 · 26/05/2019 09:10

Breastfeeding changed mine, definitely... I personally prefer them now though Grin

user1471498837 · 26/05/2019 09:38

YANBU mine are trashed!

Iris1654 · 26/05/2019 09:40

I could only feed from one boob.
It’s lower than the other now and flatter.

You are correct, it does ruin them.

anothernotherone · 26/05/2019 09:47

It's gaining and losing weight and volume rapidly which changes women's bodies during both pregnancy and breastfeeding.

My breasts are bigger after 3 pregnancies and about 3 years of breastfeeding in total, so 5 and a half years or so either pregnant or breastfeeding, stopped breastfeeding the youngest almost 7 years ago... but then all of me is bigger...

If you've lost a lot of weight your breasts will be smaller and less firm, you'll probably have stretch marks and saggy skin somewhere too. Mostly it's the rapid pregnancy weight gain and loss but also the engorgement of breastfeeding and consequent frequent changes in size.

60secondfacetimer · 26/05/2019 09:50

Pregnancy changes your boobs, I didn't breastfeed any of mine. After my first two pregnancies my boobs returned to normal but after my third they are definitely not as firm and a little bigger strangely even though I'm more or less the same weight.

Branleuse · 26/05/2019 09:52

It completely wrecked mine. Its hard to say whether they would have been wrecked without breastfeeding though, but i think they grew so much - probably around 7 cup sizes - and then shrunk again, and then the constant inflating and deflating with the huge overproduction of milk I seemed to have - they didnt stand a chance. I was left with breasts that looked deformed and horrific to me. Stretched crepey wrinkly bags of skin that hung down like spaniels ears. I had had perky little A/B cups before which were small, but I liked them.

I ended up getting an uplift and a boob job once id finished with having babies and breastfed my last and theyre nice now.

ChristinaMarlowe · 27/05/2019 00:47

Mine are still round and perky and nipples point slightly upwards at a D cup. Great shape. Still ruined completely and totally though by the lumpy bumpy looking nips (raised Montgomery glands apparently). Midwives said it is really common but pretty sure its just me from what people complain about - definitely the worst pregnancy change for me 😭 One DC aged 7 and 32 weeks with DC2. Sigh.

NunoGoncalves · 27/05/2019 01:07

Changed yes. Ruined no. Ruined implies something is wrong with them just because they don't look the way society (read: men) tell you they should look.

edgeofheaven · 27/05/2019 01:20

It's different from person to person. I have two friends who have had surgery to "fix" their post-breastfeeding boobs - one had implants and one had a reduction!

Mine are the same size as they were pre-pregnancy, but not as perky.
