What time do you eat your evening meal?

I’m ready for mine by half 6 at the latest. DP would eat his at 9 if he could. we try and compromise by meeting in the middle and having our dinner around 7:30. I’m always ravenous by then and DP isn’t fully hungry yet though. What time do you eat yours and is it the same time as the rest of your family (unless you live alone of course)?

By the time we're home and get it on it's usually 7:30ish

HBStowe · 13/05/2019 14:38

Normally between 8 and 9. We usually don’t get home from work til after 7.30, so any earlier isn’t realistic.

Groovee · 13/05/2019 14:38

We usually eat at 5 as someone always needs to be out. If no one is out then between 5-6.

soulrunner · 13/05/2019 14:40

Kids eat about 6pm (nanny makes it). I eat about 8pm or if I have an exercise thing a bit later (9ish). If I'm not working I can happily eat with the kids though so I'm not wedded to a certain time and would just adapt what time I have lunch accordingly.

TescoValueUserName · 13/05/2019 14:40

Any time between 5 and about 9.30 normally depending on how I feel. Last night it was 10.30 as I forgot but didn't want to go to bed hungry!

IHaveBrilloHair · 13/05/2019 14:41

Somewhere between 6 and 8 generally.

BarbaraofSevillle · 13/05/2019 14:42

When I'm hungry and have prepared the food. Any time between 5 and 8.

If you're ravenous early on, you could try eating more in the daytime and have a smaller evening meal.

Eating little for breakfast and lunch in anticipation of a big evening meal really doesn't work for me and it was quite an epiphany when I realized that I didn't have to eat like that when it really didn't suit. So I eat the amount and type of food that suits me when it suits.

Newadventure · 13/05/2019 14:42

4.30pm with dd

DizzyPigeon · 13/05/2019 14:43

Any time from 4.30pm till 10.30pm. I work strange hours...

GlamourBear · 13/05/2019 14:44

Between 4.30-5.00pm usually on weeknights. On a Friday we eat after the DC are in bed so 7.30pm ish as we usually have a take away and a glass of wine Smile

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 13/05/2019 14:44

Between eight and nine after I've fed DS and put him to bed, pre baby it was around the same time though

MustardScreams · 13/05/2019 14:45

9pm usually, dd has her dinner at nursery. Weekends dd will eat around 7ish and I’ll have a small amount and then proper dinner when she’s in bed. I can’t stand eating early for some reason.

shumway · 13/05/2019 14:45

At about 6.30 usually.

Pascha · 13/05/2019 14:45

I aim for either 6pm if eating with children, or 8pm if not. In truth, 6 is a little early for me but ds2 doesn't cope with much later, he's always asleep by 8pm.

BarbedBloom · 13/05/2019 14:45

Between 5 and 6 normally, but sometimes earlier

gamerchick · 13/05/2019 14:45

You could always eat you're when you're hungry and he can eat when he wants.

I couldn't eat at 9pm, far too late

Whoops75 · 13/05/2019 14:46

Dd at 4
Ds 6.30
Dh varies
I don’t eat a big meal in the evening just have porridge or toast ( eat big breakfast & lunch)

Make dinners that can be reheated and let people eat when they are hungry.

DramaAlpaca · 13/05/2019 14:48

Any time between 8 & 9, depending on what we are doing & who's cooking. It's just DH & me, we used to eat earlier when we had younger DC around. Now we can please ourselves.

FashionFoodLaughs · 13/05/2019 14:52

Between 6 and 6:30, try to eat in an 8-10 hour window if possible

5foot5 · 13/05/2019 14:54

Generally between 6 and 7pm, we don't get in from work until 6-ish.

I would find 9pm a bit late but could cope with that occasionally.
I would find it harder to deal with the really early dinners some people have at 5pm or before.

my2bundles · 13/05/2019 14:57

Between 4-5 pm as DS is ravenous when he gets home from school. Cuts out the constant asking for snacks aswell.

Mumsie448 · 13/05/2019 14:57

My DH always worked such odd hours and often came home really late, that it made no sense for me to wait for him. So, I always ate with the DD at 6:00. Occassionally, eat later, but the habit is hard to break. The exception is when I had a job finishing at 6:00, got home around 8:00., but I was not doing that for long.

coffeegrounds · 13/05/2019 15:00

Between 9.30pm & 10.30pm

It's fine and suits us, but if you are that hungry by trying to wait perhaps you should just eat when it suits you and let DH do the same?

happymummy12345 · 13/05/2019 15:01

It depends on if dh is at work or not. If he's home we will either eat as a family between 5 and 6. Or we will give ds something and then have ours when he is in bed.
If I'm on my own I will either eat with ds between 5 and 6, or eat when he has gone to bed.
I would wait for dh when he's working, but he doesn't get in until late, usually between 11-11.30, sometimes more like midnight. So we agreed when he's on an all day or an evening shift I'd eat on my own, and he gets something at work.

user1493413286 · 13/05/2019 15:02

8-8.30 because of DDs bedtime but 7.30 would be my optimum time. I like to get things done before dinner then chill out after
