What time do you eat your evening meal?

I’m ready for mine by half 6 at the latest. DP would eat his at 9 if he could. we try and compromise by meeting in the middle and having our dinner around 7:30. I’m always ravenous by then and DP isn’t fully hungry yet though. What time do you eat yours and is it the same time as the rest of your family (unless you live alone of course)?

I can't believe how many people eat so late! We've two kids and eat at 5/530, even before kids we'd eat at 530/6. If it got to 8pm I'd just have some toast and go to bed

Oysterbabe · 13/05/2019 19:42

🎶🎵 She gets too hungry for dinner at 8.. 🎵🎶

noworklifebalance · 13/05/2019 19:44

5-6pm with he kids as I then fast for 16+ hours (I will drink herbal teas, water, black coffee).

Isn't that just having a late breakfast?*

Yes but most (I include myself in this until recently) would eat or drink something somewhere in that 16 hours or would have had a later dinner/earlier breakfast. Most fast periods are about 8 hours.

kaytee87 · 13/05/2019 20:28

5.00/5.30. We have a toddler, DH gets in from work at 4 and the days I'm working I'm never later than 5.30.

kaytee87 · 13/05/2019 20:29

Are those of you that eat at 5.30/6pm not ravenous by bedtime?

No, I try to only eat between the hours of 11am&6pm

SolitudeAtAltitude · 13/05/2019 20:31

6pm, every day, like a nuclear family Grin

...only as we need to be places come 7! (All 4 of us doing separate hobbies/sports Grin )

Saavhi · 13/05/2019 20:32

8/9

Always surprised on threads asking "what are you eating tonight" when a poster comments they've just had hand caught Dover sole and it's only 5 pm.

Parker231 · 13/05/2019 20:32

@Giantsbane - we don’t get home from work until nearly 7 so it’s 7.30 at the earliest before we eat. When DC’s were at nursery I’d collect them at 6.15 and eat when we got home.

Tunnockswafer · 13/05/2019 20:48

I get hungry again before bed, so I eat. If I ate later, I wouldn’t be hungry after it but I’d be hungry before it, so surely same amount of food consumed overall?

MumUnderTheMoon · 13/05/2019 20:49

Around 6 usually so I can get dd to bed on time. Sometimes, like tonight, we run late but that's ok.

Pinkprincess1978 · 13/05/2019 21:05

It varies - anytime from 5. Usually earlier on a Sunday and later mid week. Usually by 7.30/8.00 at the latest.

Tigger001 · 13/05/2019 21:08

4.45 as we prefer to eat as a family and I don't want DS eating any later than that, but my DH only gets in at 4.30 to 4.45.

Bunchofparsley · 13/05/2019 21:32

My last child has finally flown the nest and it's just me and DH now. He's worked away for the past 15 yrs and in that time we've developed completely different habits - mine being stuck more with the kids... He's happy to eat 8/9pm, me - no later than 6:30. We're back in the same house generally now and deciding to accomodate my need for an earlier meal ( he sorts himself out independantly later) was a strangely significant moment in the whole "should we still be together how do we make this work?" dance we had to do recently...

NotMamaBearMamaPigeon · 13/05/2019 21:35

None Nursery Days - I eat a small portion with DD (aged 3) at 4pm. Then have a bigger meal or a bigger portion at about 8pm.

Nursery Days and weekends she's with her dad - DD eats at Nursery/with her dad so I eat at about 8pm.

Fraxion · 13/05/2019 21:41

6pm but we are early to bed as up 5am.

Ratatatouille · 13/05/2019 21:41

Pre children we ate around 8-9pm as we weren't usually home until 7pm and that's the soonest we could manage it after gym/run, shower and change.

Now with very young kids, we eat at 5-5:30pm as it's important to us that we all eat together. DH now works from home most days and is able to finish early and then carry on once kids are in bed, and I'm a SAHM for now.

PotsOfJoy · 13/05/2019 21:42

Not had it yet :(

foodiefil · 13/05/2019 21:49

Between 7-8

Usually finish work at 6 so depending on what it is and when we get in that's about right.

I have lunch at 1pm and a snack at 3-4. Usually ready for it but not absolutely starving.

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 13/05/2019 21:52

Usually between 6 and 7 depending on what activities etc everyone has after school or if I have a late meeting.

cardibach · 13/05/2019 21:56

Are those of you that eat at 5.30/6pm not ravenous by bedtime?
Well, lunch at, say, 1 - 5 hrs to dinner at 6 then 5 more to an 11pm bedtime (a bit longer if you are late to bed.
Lunch at 1- 8 hours to dinner at 9 then only a couple until bed.
Aren’t those of that eat at 9 ravenous by mid evening? The time split is much worse for you.

CustardySergeant · 13/05/2019 21:59

We eat dinner any time between 8 and 9. I can't imagine eating as early as some posters. We're both retired btw, so it's not anything to do with when we get home from work.

TodayIs · 13/05/2019 21:59

Are those of you that eat at 5.30/6pm not ravenous by bedtime?

Not at all. Maybe because it's just habit/routine? I'm sure it helps keep me slim!

Personally I couldn't eat any later than 8pm, I'd hate feeling stuffed/full of food before bed. (11pm usually). Up at 6am.

I don't see it as 'fasting' by having an early dinner - it's just going to bed...

UnicornDust9 · 13/05/2019 22:07

Kids eat about 4.30- 5. Have pudding about an hour or so later.

I eat with them.

Partner eats when he gets in anytime between 6-9pm.

specterlitt · 13/05/2019 22:10

Usually around 7.30/8. Work does not allow it ti be any earlier.

Isth · 13/05/2019 22:11

Anywhere between 6pm and 10:30pm. My DP works ridiculously long hours, and I try to eat with him when I can, which accounts for the late meals, but if he’s going to be even later, I eat at the earlier times, because that’s what I prefer and I don’t want to be waiting to eat my tea at 2am 😂
