ALWAYS MAXI NIGHT - discontinued WHY

Tudbury · 09/05/2019 09:59

ALWAYS MAXI NIGHT is now scented- the wisdom of always designers has finally gone mad. Again they have removed a really good product for heavy period sufferers and made it scented saying this is what women want. I really dont want people being able to smell an over scented pad. Other than that my lubby loo doesnt appreciate the irriation that it also causes, a £2 packed of scented pads ends costing me over £20 in thrush and water infection product so thanks ALWAYS. I drove round 11 shops and made several phone calls in just one day searching for the old unscented stock. Ive even rang and emailed Always asking to buy cases of old stock but no luck, ive been told women want scented or winged products. ( wings umm trusted always to leak down your legs)
If anyone else hates scented pads please contact Always to complain.
Ive tried the other nighttime peoduces on offer but find them rubbish. It would be easier to stick on the loo for a week than it is to gind decent sanitary products

whilst I prefer unscented (I use Bodyform) I've never had a problem with scented, though I hear about it a lot on MN.

I wonder if this (to my mind, anyway) rise in people having problems with scented is tied in with the rise of women removing all or most of their pubic hair? I mean, is the 70s bush doing what it's meant to do and protecting the vulva?

bobstersmum · 10/05/2019 12:34

I hate scented pads, and I have no idea why they feel they need to scent them? It does not smell anyway if changed often! It's not poo, it's menstrual blood, is it in case we get rabid dogs chasing us?

Tudbury · 10/05/2019 12:43

Hi longtompot, i first contacted them through the always website contacts at the bottom of their page and they emailed my hotmail account. All replies went through that from then on so theres no proper email i can find www.always.co.uk and it gives the options to contact them dont ring its a waste of time. But the reference number for this complaint is - SUBJECT LINE - Re: Thank you for contacting Always [ ref:_00D80PUz7._5002E1Kdmdo:ref ]
if you want me to forward the whole email to you let me have your email address and i'll just forward the whole thing im rubbish at internet stuff. Thanks

@Tudbury no, thats great thank you. I shall let you know how I get on.

MyDressHasPockets · 10/05/2019 13:10

I hate Always because of the scent. The smell of the pads is way worse and stronger than any smell from my period and I bleed A LOT. I like Kotex pads and then swap to Bodyform once the worst few days are over.

I get the rage when I need emergency pads when out and only Always is available.

Tudbury · 10/05/2019 13:11

Dear weeping willow, omg nearly choked on my sandwich reading your hair reply. I started this link, its not just about the revolting smell its more about taking the option away from those very heavy flow ladies out there that are left with very little option for larger unscented pads. And yes its possible that the lack of hair maybe a factor, but there would be thousands of woman no longer having a sex life cause their partners wont enter the forest lol, my husband included, but this wouldnt be a problem if we had the option to purchase unscented large/ night time pads this is why i'd like anyone who can be bothered to contact always/p&g.

@weepingwillowweepingwino I have, ahem, a full bush and I feel irritation with the scented ones straight away! I wouldn’t say I have sensitive skin in general, I’m fine with perfume, deodorant and normal shower gels/soaps.

IncrediblySadToo · 10/05/2019 13:23

weepingwillow

Nope. Currently supporting a full bush (been too lazy to get it waxed!) cannot use scented products - not even if they call them ‘odour control’ 🙄

It would be good to see Jennifer reading this thread.

Tudbury · 10/05/2019 13:40

Incrediblysadtoo - i have emailed jennifer and asked her to see all these posts but alass it would appear that they dont care. Later today im going to print them out if i can work out how and post them to p&g

what a peach your DH sounds.

Teddybear45 · 10/05/2019 14:01

My pads need to be scented because the tissue I pass during a period often smells really bad (old blood). There are plenty of brands out there that offer unscented versions - shop around!

StormTreader · 10/05/2019 14:12

Teddy there are already loads of scented ones as everyone has said, you have plenty of choice - can't those of us that need unscented get to keep at least this one?

Teddybear45 · 10/05/2019 14:34

Always probably wasn’t able to sell the unscented pads, so I doubt there’s a huge market for them in the real world outside of allergies and there are brands that do this better (Lunapads do cloth pads for example, Rael are hypoallergic).

Tudbury · 10/05/2019 14:41

Thank you STORM TREADER , when i just read teddybear45 post i wondered if they was actually reading the same posts. Teddybear if you'd read my original posts you would have realised all these ladies have shopped around and we are unable to find a decent product. We are women with heavy periods who cant wear scented or winged pads and have the brains to shop around but the choses just arent there like they are for women with a light to medium flow and who can wear scented, but thanks for joining in

Yabbers · 10/05/2019 14:51

I switched to the Aldi ones and found them pretty good. Scented ones don't work for me either.

Tudbury · 10/05/2019 14:55

Teddybear there are 99 woman agreeing that they need an unscented nighttime pad which has been withdrawn there are very few alternatives out there. Myself, i was purchasing 3 to 4 packs of always maxi night a month. It would appear that you are unable to add anything constructive to this post and from your message you only appear to want an arguement i fear you know nothing about sales or marketing in this area and so i wonder exactly why you would post your opinion. If you sufferd from thrush or water infection caused by these scented products you would understand the cost, and distress it can cause.

OP posts:
Teddybear45 · 10/05/2019 15:25

What’s the point of posting on AIBU if you don’t want alternative opinions or other options? Always is no longer selling these pads. They have told you they won’t restart. 99 people on a Mumsnet thread is not going to change their mind. Anyway it’s clearly obvious you don’t want to hear from people for whom scented pads are a good thing, so fair enough.

Fazackerley · 10/05/2019 15:33

Yuck teddy you are deluding yourself if you think the strong old lady Femfresh type stench is making your fanny blood smell any better Grin

StormTreader · 10/05/2019 15:59

Teddy, when you go to a normal supermarket, just how many brands and variations do you have to choose from? And then how many do all the women who can't comfortably tolerate scented products have to choose from?

Do you see why it's annoying to all of us to be told "supermarkets stock 30 types of pads, but if you need a nighttime unscented one you'll have to piss about searching the internet to pay more for some "specialist" brand"?

I would say if you're one of the very few women who are overly worried about your periods smelling more than normal, maybe a supplemental scent spray should be sold that you can choose to use on your pads.

Tudbury · 10/05/2019 15:59

Teddybear the majority won, so we know that opinion. So what your saying is just because there are only 99+ woman on this thread as the minority we shouldnt have a say, theres alot of these woman that have offered other options that unless i did this i would have never heard about and ive notice quite a few who have asked questions about these options and where to get them so im glad these 99 women have spent their time offering quality advice. So yeah fair enough.

IncrediblySadToo · 10/05/2019 16:20

Any woman who thinks a scented pad helps to cover the smell of ‘old blood’ is deluded. It just adds to the unpleasant aroma.

I HATE the smell of period ‘blood’. I wish there were better products available.

Using scented pads is like a smoker sucking on a mint or spraying perfume. It doesn’t mask anything it just adds another layer of yuck.

Tudbury God only knows who they asked. or how they asked?! No one I know IRL uses the scented ones, no one of my generation (40’s), Goddaughters (20’s), or the teens.

They probably asked men 😳🙄😂

PopcornPopper · 10/05/2019 16:21

Weirdly I never noticed a period blood smell on any woman I worked with but the scented pads are really noticeable so then I could tell women who were on their period who wore scented pads.

I believe the scented pads crap has come in along with the whole femfresh scented wash because women are being told they smell unpleasant and a vulva should smell like fake flowers Hmm Maybe I should invent Dick Wash, so men smell like what? Lemons? Grin

I ended up with an allergic reaction to just pads in general hence the switch to reusable after my endometriosis made tampon wearing impossible for 2 days. Agony.

I know it seems like a big investment @Tudbury, but just buy yourself a night time one. The lady who makes Honour Your Flow prides herself on the night time pads. She says length wise it is from your elbow to your finger tips Shock and it is.

It is £15. You may be converted over. www.honouryourflow.co.uk/night-pads-uk-8-20-84-c.asp

IncrediblySadToo · 10/05/2019 16:26

If you’re asking I’d prefer chocolate or salted caramel.

As for ‘from your finger tips to your elbow’. Ummm I like long pads for the night, but not THAT long 😳. My tummy button doesn’t cause me any issues 🤣
