ALWAYS MAXI NIGHT - discontinued WHY

Tudbury · 09/05/2019 09:59

ALWAYS MAXI NIGHT is now scented- the wisdom of always designers has finally gone mad. Again they have removed a really good product for heavy period sufferers and made it scented saying this is what women want. I really dont want people being able to smell an over scented pad. Other than that my lubby loo doesnt appreciate the irriation that it also causes, a £2 packed of scented pads ends costing me over £20 in thrush and water infection product so thanks ALWAYS. I drove round 11 shops and made several phone calls in just one day searching for the old unscented stock. Ive even rang and emailed Always asking to buy cases of old stock but no luck, ive been told women want scented or winged products. ( wings umm trusted always to leak down your legs)
If anyone else hates scented pads please contact Always to complain.
Ive tried the other nighttime peoduces on offer but find them rubbish. It would be easier to stick on the loo for a week than it is to gind decent sanitary products

I used the green always for years then they changed the top layer and it made me burn. I use always infinity but they are over £3 a box.

MidsomerBurgers · 09/05/2019 18:59

Boots online has Always Infinity on offer at 2 packs for £4.

Helplessfeeling · 09/05/2019 19:12

OK Always if you are reading this- Your pads stink, everyone can tell you are on your period when you wear them as they recognise the horrible smell. Could you not invest in some odour reducing technology rather than masking one slight smell for another completely disgusting one?

Bodyform is the way to go!

YANBU OP.

Reusable. I used to get through a maxi night in an hour but can use reusable ones for ages. I have some grey fleece ones from Amazon and they are the best. They dry very very quickly on the radiator so no need to leave them lying around all day or anything.

belinda789 · 09/05/2019 19:22

When I read that bamboo is ten times more absorbent than cotton I bought a roll (of large tear-off sheets). Each sheet can be used 85 times and there are a lot of sheets on a roll. I was astonished at how much they absorb. They are very comfortable, wash and dry like a dream and you save tons of money. No more horrid pads.

BiBiBirdie · 09/05/2019 19:30

Oh no!
I hate scented pads and really found these reliable.
Have you tried the Asda ones? I sent DH off for some earlier on for DD and he came back with these, they look the same as the always ones.
I just don't get it with sanitary companies, I know people have nicknamed down there a "lady garden" but it doesn't mean we want to waft about smelling of an actual garden.

Shitonthebloodything · 09/05/2019 19:44

I've complained to Always too. I wish more people would.
They're vile and so irritating. I can't use them any more at all because of the perfume.

dudsville · 09/05/2019 19:49

Re wings: You can peel the tape of and stick the wings to the underside of the pad. There's still plenty of sticky pad left to grip your pants, and no wing hassle. I discovered this after years of cutting the wings off. I'd literary sit down for an evening of telly with a pack of pads, scissors and a bin.

Cistavay · 09/05/2019 19:58

Another vote for incontinence pads for heavy periods.
Until recently I was having awful flooding due to fibroids- Always pads have always irritated my skin so I was using Bodyform. Someone suggested Aldi incontinence pads- they are around 90p a packet, various sizes, super soft and much more efficient.
Luckily my treatment seems to have eased the problem now.

BindTheWobbinUp · 09/05/2019 20:03

I stopped using Always years ago when they started with the whole scented/odour control thing. It's such a distinctive smell, I can spot it at a hundred paces.
I now use a combination of washables (from Cheeky wipes) a Mooncup, tampax and Bodyform (not all at once)

drivingmisspotty · 09/05/2019 20:13

I hope Always are reading this! I was also 100% loyal from 14 to 27. The only thing I used. Then the stupid scented ones came out. Not only do they smell bad, they really irritate my vagina too.

I too have bought some by accident and ended up using one in the middle of the night as I took it from the drawer in the dark. Within seconds it was burning me, I had to get up again and swap it.

Such a shame they were good products. But maybe better for the environment as I have moved over to a cup now!

I also used always infinity occasionally but found them difficult to get in shops and was v disgruntled at suddenly having to pay more for unscented when the old always ultra were suiting me just fine.

I started using always because they were the samples given by the school nurse when we were 11. I do worry that they will now be giving out these scented monstrosities and giving young girls weird ideas about periods being smelly/dirty.

AuntieMaggie · 09/05/2019 20:27

I'd never use scented pads anyway for reasons already explained in this thread but who the feck would want scented pads at night? Like it makes a bloody difference when you're asleep!!! Who the heck took part in these focus groups?!

TheLette · 09/05/2019 20:58

Another vote for cloth pads. Go to the website Honour Your Flow and check out the night pads. They are huge! No worries about accidents with them. Super comfy and good for cutting back on plastic waste to boot. Quite a big upfront investment (unless you buy night ones only) but should hopefully save you money over time.

ControversialFerret · 09/05/2019 21:03

Hate scented pads. It's a fucking guarantee of thrush. I was using supermarket cheapies in conjunction with a mooncup. First 3 days are really heavy so i need a pad as well at night, but I do feel bad about the amount of plastic it generates every month.

The thread has just inspired me to order some reusables from Amazon.

DaisyDreaming · 09/05/2019 21:17

I have never smelt someone’s blood/period and yet I can smell when people are using scented pads, they are so horrid!

yomellamoHelly · 09/05/2019 21:27

I used them for 25 years. Scented make me sore. Use Natracare now. Also don't understand why they make it so difficult to figure out which are the unscented ones when buying. Usually end up standing in the aisle and smelling the various boxes if I don't see a brand I recognise as unscented.

yoshismother · 09/05/2019 21:37

Yes I look like a mad woman smelling all the boxes!

YesILikeItToo · 09/05/2019 21:46

They have also raised the stickiness of the glue, so there’s the increased indignity of trying to free them from your knickers without [CENSORED] unpleasantness.

moonrises · 09/05/2019 22:06

I can't smell them. I am worried now that I am stinking everyone else out. I have been using the green always.

I hadn't had a period for years (pill) and then a slight mess up (forgot to order new prescription) when I missed a few doses resulted in them being kick started. I haven't had one for a while and then, bam, big massive one so out come the pads.

Have to have a re-think if this is going to be the norm for me.

BettyJune07 · 09/05/2019 22:12

Kotex in the black packet are amazing and so soft. I rarely have periods due to being on the jab but I might get some reusable for next time. Much better for the environment too I hear. X

Fatted · 09/05/2019 22:17

Instead of writing emails to complain, vote with your money and buy elsewhere. They'll only care when they lose money.

When I had DS, Tesco had good maternity pads that were quite thin, but did the job. I remember wearing them for my first few periods as well post DS.

ememem84 · 09/05/2019 22:20

Reuseables all the way here too. After having ds my fanny couldn’t cope with disposable pads. The first ones I bought were scented. Awful itchy nasty icky things.

northernstars · 09/05/2019 22:31

I won't use unscented either and not one person on this thread has a different opinion so God knows who they are asking!

ineedaknittedhat · 09/05/2019 22:37

I just use washables now with a lillet if I'm super heavy. Washables are so easy. You just give them a quick rinse and put into the washing machine. I do mine with the towels and pyjamas.

Period don't even smell as long as you take reasonable hygiene precautions and change pads regularly. The focus group probably consisted of men as we all know that they're the authority on how women should be.

crispsforsupper · 09/05/2019 22:45

Mooncup and Natracare.

Switched loyalties from horrible Always scented shite years ago and never looked back.
