ALWAYS MAXI NIGHT - discontinued WHY

Tudbury · 09/05/2019 09:59

ALWAYS MAXI NIGHT is now scented- the wisdom of always designers has finally gone mad. Again they have removed a really good product for heavy period sufferers and made it scented saying this is what women want. I really dont want people being able to smell an over scented pad. Other than that my lubby loo doesnt appreciate the irriation that it also causes, a £2 packed of scented pads ends costing me over £20 in thrush and water infection product so thanks ALWAYS. I drove round 11 shops and made several phone calls in just one day searching for the old unscented stock. Ive even rang and emailed Always asking to buy cases of old stock but no luck, ive been told women want scented or winged products. ( wings umm trusted always to leak down your legs)
If anyone else hates scented pads please contact Always to complain.
Ive tried the other nighttime peoduces on offer but find them rubbish. It would be easier to stick on the loo for a week than it is to gind decent sanitary products

I've switched to reusable too after staining mattresses with leaking disposables.

I've got the same period pants but wasn't sure if you're supposed to wear a pad too or whether the pants absorb it all?! I haven't dared wear them on their own but might try now. I also recommend cheeky wipes website. I dry mine on the airer and don't get any comment. You'll want the bamboo and minky ones for heavy flow. I use the latest night time ones for heavy days and just ordered some smaller ones too. Quick cold rinse under the tap and bung in the box with cold water. Then I rinse first and then wash with normal clothes. Easy Smile

Misty9 · 09/05/2019 12:03

Latest = largest...

PookieDo · 09/05/2019 12:04

I use Tena now really worth the cost

PookieDo · 09/05/2019 12:06

In fact after using tena I struggle to use normal pads without some anxiety
No scratching nice coverage and soft

Bellasorellaa · 09/05/2019 12:06

Write to them

I only ever use tampons for my withdrawal bleed. But after giving birth I used maternity pads for the first two weeks (Tesco brand ones, they were lovely and soft). Then for the third week when the bleeding was too light to require thick pads I used the same pads I used when I was younger and first started, before I switched to tampons, (always ultra size 1 in the light green packet). I never had a problem with them and I continued to use them for a few months for my withdrawal bleeds, until I felt ready and comfortable to use tampons again after giving birth. But I noticed they had a stronger smell, but they never bothered me.
But I admit when I'm in that aisle I can smell the scent and it is very strong. There's no need for it at all

RattyTat · 09/05/2019 12:28

Have you tried the black pack of Kotex? They're good and unscented, found in Superdrug, Poundland,Savers, Hime Bargains and elsewhere I'm sure.

Stormwhale · 09/05/2019 12:30

Have you thought of trying a maternity pad for night time OP? For some reason lochia is not gross enough to require scented pads, Hmm so those have been left the fuck alone for now.

funnelfanjo · 09/05/2019 12:39

Classic advertising technique of creating demand where there was none before to try and get a new marketing USP. Ask women whether they are worried about the smell of their period and suddenly they are thinking “oh I’ve never thought of that before. Is that a thing? Can people smell me?”. I have said on these threads before - I’ve never smelt another woman’s period, but I have smelt someone wearing scented a sanitary pad. Well, they could have been wearing a car scent thingy I suppose...

I can pretty much guarantee that if you ask women what worries them about their period in the context of sanitary protection, leaking would be far and away the number one concern. I would expect comfort, convenience, cost and disposal/environmental impact to come well before smell.

One of the silver linings to an earlyish menopause - not having all your clothes on your lower half smelling like your nans cheap air freshener. Maybe if they smelt like Jo Malone it wouldn’t be so bad...

If you like massive massive pads OP have a look at Honour your Flow Night Angels, or Mega Pads.

slipperywhensparticus · 09/05/2019 12:46

It's only people who want everyone to know they are on their period who want scented

Waveysnail · 09/05/2019 12:47

Iv had to change to washable pads and period pants as disposables constant thrush and infections. Early days but it's ok.

Waveysnail · 09/05/2019 12:49

I got mine from cheeky wipes. Def prefer the bamboo top as minky one was chafing at end of day

foreverhanging · 09/05/2019 12:52

Not the point but I really fucking hate wings on pads. Useless bastards.

StormTreader · 09/05/2019 13:00

I've wasted so much of my life looking for long unscented pads! Any scent makes everything visibly red and pissed off for a week afterwards!
I've been using Always night but I'll check out the Aldi ones then since I now can't use Always any more.

Whats even more annoying is give it a few years until they're all scented and it'll be "Ladies! You know how all periods make you itch horribly? Buy this new cream to reduce it so you're no longer clawing at your own crotch for a week!" when its the dratted pads causing it in the first place!!

HardAsSnails · 09/05/2019 13:04

Try Always Infinity.

CornishMaid1 · 09/05/2019 13:08

I had the same problem with the scent causing irritation so I had to change too. I now use the goodnight bodyform ones with wings (the biggest they do) as they are unscented.

Always do a sensitive range without the scent, but they do not do the nighttime version in them.

tectonicplates · 09/05/2019 13:23

Always do a sensitive range without the scent, but they do not do the nighttime version in them.

Which I suppose is a good thing in theory, but I hate the message it's giving out, labelling women as "sensitive" for not wanting scented sanitary towels. All products should be unscented by default.

MrsPear · 09/05/2019 13:35

Tudbury have you tried naturcare towels? They are plastic and scent free. Non bulky too. I buy in bulk from nature spirit.

Tudbury · 09/05/2019 13:36

BELLASORELLAA - yes i have emailed always and had the usual reply in a nutshell "its what women want to smell like a car airfreshener" this is why im asking all you lovely lady's to send an email to complain to always as they are the company i have the issue with at the moment. Ive also rang them when they was slow at replying, ive sent a link to these posts in the hopes they will view your lovely replies but lets face it whats the chances of that, we are mearly woman with little choice.

HardAsSnails, I think Always Infinity has been discontinued? I can't find it anywhere. That was what made me properly dump Always as a brand.

yoshismother · 09/05/2019 17:01

The scented ones are the devil's work. I end up scratching myself to smithereens.

I fear that my Tena Lady liners have gone this way too as I was itchy after wearing them!!

HardAsSnails · 09/05/2019 17:03

Janarta they're available at Ocado and Amazon (not checked anywhere else).

CrackingTheWhip · 09/05/2019 17:08

I’ve read a lot of very good reviews on the Cottons range at Boots. It’s worth looking into anything similar to those as well.

JanartaMeen · 09/05/2019 17:58

Thanks HardAsSnails! I really liked them, so I'll check out Amazon. Couldn't get them in Tesco or Asda etc.
